  1. Cheers Jaymo A friend of mine is on holiday somewhere down south and has seen a shotgun in a shop he liked at a good price but was wondering what was involved in bringing it back into the uk Mikee
  2. I had a trip round several pieces of land yesterday, there are definitely more birds on the OSR than in previous weeks and definitely more pigeons in the area, hopefully their numbers will build and make it worth getting all the gear set up Mikee
  3. Hi Guys, does anybody know the ins and outs of buying a shotgun in france and bringing it into the uk, uk sgc holder and a 3 shot semi auto Mikee
  4. Muntjac certainly aren't vermin, they are a fantastic sporting assett, if they had set breeding times like the other deer they would have a closed season its just that they breed year round so a closed season is pointless, if you are worried about shooting does incase you leave orphaned calves and your landowner isn't anal about having them all cleared up, just shoot the bucks, you'll have a steady stream of meat for the freezer, the bucks are always on the move looking for new does.so new ones will be moving in after the does you didnt shoot. As for caliber .22cf is legal but I personally prefer the .308 the big heavy bullet has generally exited before its fully expanded and makes far less mess that .22-250 or .243 just my thought Mikee
  5. Yes he's a fantastic shot and ambassador for the sport, but £1000 or £250 to join club digweed So come on PW members, who has laid out the cash and joined Mikee
  6. I use a 40 pint home brew bucket wrapped with camo tape, I can carry nets, pegs, flask, lunch and a square of foam as a cushion and then use it to collect shot birds at the end of a session Mikee
  7. I have a couple of goals for the coming year The main one is to try and find more time to get out, at least once a week either stalking or pigeon shooting is the target, start DSC2 and hopefully get near to completing it, I'm getting married in July so that might have an impact on time available but not too much hopefully Mikee
  8. ive got a little Miroku special game which I had serviced a few weeks ago, I asked the gunsmith to measure the chokes, its choked between 1/4 and 1/2 in the bottom barrel and tight 3/4 in the top, which is pretty much standard Mikee
  9. its either a gun fit or technique issue, have you had the gun fitted by a professional or had a bit of a lesson from someone in the know, I shoot a 687 which was fitted correctly and doesnt give me any grief even with 3" stuff, either a competent gunsmith or instructor is your next port of call Mikee
  10. I've been out scouting round my land today, 4th time in a bit over a week, areas which are normally full of birds are empty, just a few single floating around and a few sat in the trees, someone must have some somewhere Mike
  11. I know mistakes happen, were all human after all, but to drive 30 miles each way to deliver the bits in his own time when he only works there I thought was very good service, perhaps it was because I was polite and didnt give them any greif Mikee
  12. A few weeks ago I bought another shotgun from a local-ish shop, a remington 1100, took it home and locked it up with the others, on Sunday at Alan's christmas shoot I took it for its first outing, on the first stand loaded 2 shells, pull, bang, click, tried again pull, bang, click, stripped it down to find the rubber "O" ring and pistons were missing, phoned the shop this morning and explained the situation, the guy said that the gun smith wasn't in today to find the parts in the workshop and there wouldn't be time to get them in the post for me to receive before christmas if left any later than today, so the guy said that when he knocked off work tonight he would strip the parts from another gun in stock and drive them the 30 or so miles to my house so I had them before christmas. Hows that for service, I'm not a regular customer, never been in before, it was only a cheap gun, Churchills of Dereham, spot on Mikee
  13. spot on, they know when they're the quarry and when they're not A few years ago I was given permission to shoot pigeons on a stubble towards the end of the game season when the birds are supposedly wild, the landowner just asked that I stay a couple of hundred yards away from his cover strip, which I did, after the first couple of shots the partridges high tailed it over the far hedge onto the next field and the pheasants all wandered away, within 2 hours there were pheasants walking about in among the deeks and the partridges were all back around the cover strip, I shot 90 odd pigeons that day so there was plenty of disturbance, as soon as the birds got used to the noise they were back Mikee

  20. yes Harnser still a salad dodger, although now in transition to salad user as getting hitched again in the summer and she doesn't want to wedding pics to look like she's wed the fat controller, now getting back into the pigeons, had so much on the last few years ive just not had time, changed job and gone self employed so getting that all off the ground too a full time effort, got divorced, moved house, had a year looking after my poor old mum after she got sick, dealing with her estate and selling her house etc, all that and the fishing didnt leave much time for pigeon shooting but its all sort of levelled out now so time for both as the work is going well i can be a bit more choosey mikee
  21. I was driving round yesterday on a work related trip and spotted some pigeons dropping onto a field of winter rape, a few phone calls later to find out who owned the land and a bit of internet hunting to find a farm office number and a phone call to the farmer resulted in just over 3000 acres of new land over 3 farms within 10 miles of home, maps being emailed later today, happy days Mikee
  22. got a goose and a turkey ordered with a friend who rears them in his garden, bit pricey but damn good, there will also be a nice joint of beef and a gammon for sarnies and cold cuts Mikee
  23. I dont know about 34-36g with PSB2, I never loaded it that heavy, I used to have a fantastic load for 31g #6, fast and hard hitting, I would probably go with AO for heavier loads Mikee
