  1. I use mec 600jr's for 2.75 and 3" shells and a mec steel master for 3.5" or 10bore stuff, mec single stage presses are the best reloaders on the market for reloading steel, progressive machines are a waste of time for this, brilliant for big batches clay or game shells but useless for this application. steel is funny stuff to work with but once youve sussed it out its the best shot material apart from heavy shot which is too expensive to consider really, its speed that kills with steel shot, I used to try and cram as much as i could in a case but it just wont work, light fast loads are the way forward 24-25g in a 70mm case 33-34g in a 76mm, 89mm are a waste of time in 12g unless its big shot for geese, BBB or T, If you think you will be mostly shooting geese get a 10g and load 42-43g of T, they wot know what hit em mikee
  2. over the last couple of years ive shot about 30 muntjac and about 20 roe most of which dropped where they were standing but 3 or 4 have legged it off, I think when they are spooked they are more likely to run but they never seem to get more than 20-30yds but that is enough if the cover is thick, one roe doe did make about 80yds with no heart and only one lung, amazing really. I shoot all my deer through the heart/lungs from 10 to 250yds and never bleed any of them, as soon as they are shot I do a full gralloch and remove everthing from the bum hole to the chin, in the warmer months get them straight back to the motor and in a large tray and covered with a wet sheet and either return and try for another or head off home, this is generally early in the day before the sun has heated the car, when its cold i just hang them up in the wood if i'm going to stay on, never had a problem with any of the meat being tainted mikee
  3. i use 100gn siera gamekings in my 243 doing about 2950fps, for stalking purposes I zero at 150yds, I use it at the range quite a bit and have played about to see how much a bullet drops, zero at 100yds then moved back to 200yds and the bullet drops between 4 and 5 inches, then at 300yds it drops about 8 more to 13 inches, not tried 400 or 500 but at 600yds the bullet drops a total of 88 inches mikee

  8. I'm after some help from any of you computer buffs on here I have a wide screen monitor on my PC but when i use a cad drawing programme the image is stretched so when drawing a square it looks like a rectangle, at present i have altered the screen view so i am only using the square in the middle, can I change a ratio or something so i can use the full width of the screen without the stretching effect mikee
  9. I have opened the delrin bush on the back of my T8 so it does not touch the barrel at all, accuracy is much improved, not a big clearance about 0.5mm mikee

    mileage figure

Hi Guys, any of you self employed folk know what the new mileage figure is for this year, it was 40p/mile last year and i heard it went up on april 6th, I'm having the first go at this years books keeping mikee
  14. I dont think shooting has a great effect on pigeon numbers, and as for 2 cold winters, cant see that either, 50 years ago nearly every winter was harder than we see now, and there were far more pigeon shooters about then and pigeon numbers were huge, at this time of year all the big flocks have broken up and your average woody is only concerned with making more pigeons, they will be in the hedges and woods picking at the new tree bud growth, we have such a narrow range of crops in this country now that the birds move greater distances to area where there is a better food supply, I bet some PW members are up to their necks in pigeons, dont worry mate they will be back in the autumn in just as bigger numbers as ever mikee
  15. Ive got one in 243 aswell, superb bit of kit, for 300 quid you ought to bite his hand off mikee

  21. Ive just checked the solvent bottle, its PRO SHOT PRODUCTS, COPPER SOLVENT IV, NEW GEN COPPER SOLVENT, no amonia smell, its kind of a soapy liquid mikee
  22. Ive shot foxes to 300yds at night and never felt that I couldnt see it well enough to hit where I wanted, I find that with too much mag I struggle to find the thing in the scope before it runs off mikee
  23. I have had the rifle for 2 years and it has been cleaned 3 times, I got all excited in the first year and cleaned it twice, but when i clean it it gets a good clean, I filled the bore with copper solvent and stood up for 2 hours and then phosphor bronze brushed the bore and repeated 3 times and then patched out with meths and then clean patches, it was super shiney, I'm not one for too much oil unless the rifle gets wet but as soon as its dry i clean it all off, I would never clean it if I was going to use it in the field before i had a chance to check zero, I was well chuffed with the two groups, its not a fancy tricked up custom rifle, just a straight out of the box model, all I ahve done is a bit of trigger work and floated the barrel, 0.5moa and then a 1 moa group with a hot barrel will do me all day long, the rifle was rested on a canvas dog dummy on the bonnet of my truck to check zero mikee
  24. I haxe an 8x50 swarovski on my .243 and a 8x56 schmidt and bender on my 17hmr, both have big fat #4 reticles, I have posted a zero target on another thread at 160yds and the 25Ø middle is just being covered by the reticle, so as far as I can see you dont need huge amounts of mag to shoot a fairly long way mikee
