  1. no problem understanding them boys! Obviously from the best half of the country   Bloody good shooting though
  2. I find they work fine for me - if there is a decent breeze I sometimes put them on my bouncers
  3. its no use putting the rotary at the back of the pattern - the whole idea of it is to fool birds into the pattern. If its not working - tweak it a bit - move it to the other side, bring it nearer the hide. If its scaring the birds just take it down
  4. Tom V - i live in Keighley Verminator - thats a nice screen pic
  5. Before we even set up we watched the birds pouring in - and they just kept coming. Would have gone back today - bt couldn't find the time!!!!!!
  6. Large bunch of sour grapes on their way to now No seriously I know just how you feel - all you can do is get out as much as you can and get there early
  7. Just had a cracking day on new drilled peas. Farmer drilled on Thursday and me and my mate shot on them this afternoon. The birds came in steady away all afternoon - although there were quite a few really large groups most came in 6' &7's. We only shot for 4 hours and ended up with 102. Can't wait to go again
  8. I would forget your grandads advice Buy some bird cradles (shootwarehouse) or get some garden canes about 1metre long. Sharpen the ends, snap the pigeons wings close to the body, then slide the cane up through the vent (****) through the body and into the head. Stick the cane into the ground at abot 45 degrees. The wings should move in the breeze
  9. Same happened to me and my mate yesterday - one shot and they didn't come back! - its takes us 1.5 hours to get to our ground
  10. Now that is a bloody good idea cutting the jacket - I never thought of that Like others I tried them but they were a pain in the backside - but I'll try the cut method - that will work a treat
  11. try and find the flight line to the field - see if the birds are working it rather than just flying around
  12. sound advice boys stick that quarter choke in and go do plenty off clays, don't shoot live birds until you are busting clays easily. also when you do shoot live birds, measure out your maximum range that you are confident of killing at and place a marker there (you can use a decoy, a stick etc) and don't shoot at a bird until it passes your marker
  13. I've used a stool, a cheap folding garden chair and a 50litre bucket/feed bin in the past and all were ok for a while, but I still ended up with backache the following day. I bought a carp fishing chair for £30 at my local tackle shop and it's the dogs ********. It has ajustable legs with mud feet and is very comfey and is not to heavy and I've used this for about 2 years with no backache
  14. Not to worry andrew - as you say, "a bad days shooting still beats a good day at work"
  15. Yep - I've got to agree with Henry there - they snag on anything. If you are wanting to move away from MOD type netting - the best choice is a stealth. These don't snag your gun, they are lightweight and strong. Buy from a proper shop (the sponser of this site!) and you will be getting the real McCoy. I now use a stealth all the time - butI always have my MOD in the car with me - especially in winter when the cover is sparse
  16. I find that if there is quite a strong wind the silosocks move about far too much - I bring them in then, because they scare the pigeons. Also, if it rains, go out every now and then and tip the rain out of the cavity so that they don't get bottom heavy.
  17. That's a decent bag - beats being sat in the house any day
  18. There is that much rape about now (if you are flying anywhere when the rape is in flower you would be amaazed at how many fields the pigoens have to choose from) that you would need an army of guns to cover the area. A good ploy would be to shoot on a saturday during the game season because there may be syndicates shooting as well. I don't know the answer - I wish I did, because with more land being used for rape to make bio fuel this problem is only going to get worse. I am thinking of going down the silenced/moderated route with sub sonic cartridges
  19. I can't see anything wrong with buying a day from a guide or an agent Not everybody has access to shooting - but the woodie is a wild bird not a reared game bird there wood be no guarentees!
  20. Ive just gone on to norton 360 - its brilliant and it doesn't slow my system down
  21. I prefer normal hunters. I've had parcours and also chemau's but for beating and walked up the neoprene's are too warm for me. If i were stood still or sat down as in hide shooting then the neoprenes would win - but if I'm on the move normal hunters are perfect
  22. Issey Miyake - i don't use anything else
  23. I wonder if they used lead free shot - caring for the enviroment sort of thing
  24. 36gm 4,s - perfect :look: but as for hares....yuk
