  1. My mate and I went to this shoot again today, and there were 10 of us shooting. It made for a very good atmosphere. I got 29 ex 40.
  2. The lie of the land is important, the trapper's position should be out of any possible line of fire, and if it is not possible for the trap to be sited back from the brow of the hill and out of the line of fire, this can be achieved at a distance by multiple bales of straw or something else which will absorb shot, depending on range etc. Be very careful and it is a good plan for the trapper to have some flag or something to wave rather than popping his head up over the obstacle.
  3. Believe me I have thought hard about this lovely gun - but I am on a mission to cut down, not to add to, my burgeoning collection !! I'm going from having OU, semi and sbs down to just two - a sbs and a semi - and at the moment I have no room in the cabinet. What a nice gun though...
  4. Those hoodies obviously needed a hug !! Weird looking plants....are you sure you hadn't stumbled onto a Torchwood set ?
  5. A sale was bubbling but he bought sth else !
  6. I'm open to offers ..this gun is still available..

    HW77

These are legendary, solid, chunky guns which are extremely accurate and respond well to tuning. The open sights are under-rated - most people take 'em off but I think a 77 would make a very good open sighted rifle. Not putting a scope on it would keep the weight down a bit. It would have lovely lines. Recoil was fine - very predictable, The gun was no noisier than any other springer and in many ways less noisy. The trigger is first class IMHO. I had one for a few years (.177 lovely bit of wood) and it was excellent. I wore out one mainspring with the number of shots I put through it, but nothing else went amiss. I'd have another. Doesn't the HW97 (updated version) come with a moderator to dampen the sound ? I'd still consider the 77 though as I don't know whether the HW97 comes with open sights. I'm a big fan.
  8. I remember on certain clay shoots you could always tell which stand the chap using Records was on, they were so damn loud !! I've been given about 30 of these in no 4 shot - packs of 10. I am keeping a few in my belt in case I need a close range fox whacker. They still go bang.
  9. It is "under offer" at the moment....
  10. I used to have one of these and I found it surprisingly accurate - a 15mm spinner at 10 yards would regularly take a bashing with a Webley speedpoint sight.
  11. No - my chum is going to have that.
  12. The Beretta is still available and shooting as sweet as ever !

    Wanted

As per title, looking for a 10-shot mag for my CZ Style in .22RF, and I'd like to try a SAK on my air rifle too... 1/2" UNF Ta for looking.
  14. I've used the 32g no 5's on bunnies with good results every time. Must get some more..
  15. I thought I would let you lot into a charming little shoot located just off the A46 4 miles or so north of junction 18 of the M4 (the Bath junction). Last Sunday I went to try out a clay shoot near where I live. It starts at 0930 prompt every other Sunday. I took 2 mates and my 5 year old son, and we doubled the numbers turning up. Because I had 2 novices and my son with me, I didn't manage to get free to have a go on the trap (sorry lads) but next time I will look forward to sending some clays to their doom. The ground is at the top of a valley, so some decent birds can be shown. In summer, there is more ground to use further down the valley, but the 'keeper has asked the club to keep to the higher ground during the season. The whole thing was reminiscent of the times when Dad and I used to take a trap off to a farmer's field and blaze away with some friends. There were no bacon butties, no tea/coffee, no trappers, no electric gizmos, and no scoring cards, even. After the shoot we all walked the ground and picked up unbroken clays, which pleased my little lad no end. We all had 40 birds and it was really rather good fun to get back to basics. We were made to feel very welcome and I will certainly be going again. It was all done by 11am. It only cost £5. If you join (£50 inc BASC membership apparently!) then it costs £4. So if you fancied mucking in on a quiet little clay shoot, this one might be just the ticket. PM me for the number and directions..next shoot is Sunday 3rd December.
  16. Thanks for clarifying that, Shootist. I knew there was provision somewhere about s1 shotguns.
  17. A friend of mine came shooting with me on Sunday and is interested in one or other of them. He won't be able to make up his mind until early December as he will need to shoot the O/U, so it's all a bit complicated at the moment !!
  18. I think it is normal to have a condition allowing you to use normal loads (i.e. not solid slug and whatever the usual gen is about how many pellets/maximum size) as per a SGC shotty, for practice on clays etc, on almost an open basis. You will only be allowed to use solid slug where the land has been cleared for it though. I expect that JB has an open certificate for his guns as said. There is a need for a DEFRA licence to use a shotgun which holds more than 2 in the magazine upon avian pests, though. This is set out in the general licence under which we all shoot, and you should check that out as well. Best of luck.
  19. nice case ! I used a red elastic band of the type abandoned by post workers all over the country, around my eley boxes. Works a treat and does not impair the sliding function of the box lid..
  20. The Lanber has the full set as per new - with original pouch, cylinder, quarter, half, three-quarters and full. As for the Beretta, the external choking system is less obtrusive in use than you might think and the gun will come with full, half and quarter choke tubes, choke key and a photocopy owner's manual. Because there are no threads internally, it can be used without any choke tube in at all which creates an interesting true cylinder for those close belly-on clays/springing teal. I'm just to the north of Bristol.
  21. I seem to have people interested in both, but yes they are both still for sale.
  22. Yes, well, er, "taking off" is what came to mind very much I suppose.
  23. I don't think it's illegal, it's just considered less sporting, as pheasants are often less shy/easier to spot than true wild quarry. And the keeper would certainly not be amused ! The only time I'd shoot one with an airgun would be for the pot, on my own land (if I had any, that is) as long as it would not annoy any neighbours.
