    Bobby Robson

RIP Sir Bobby. A true legend.
  2. Bellman and Flint are a good digital locator. If you have the money the best on the market is the Mammut Barryvox. I can give you a contact on another site that does all the digital locators, from ortovox through to the Barryvox. He is very clued up about all the locators and has used them all and can give you all the specs on them all. The cheapest on the market would be the ortovox D3 which in truth will drop you right on top of your dog. Just like the others, there all designed to find people in avalanches.
  3. I have a few earths which are quite shallow (no deeper than 2ft so if you need to break through fast you can), these are used for the young inexperienced dogs first two dozen digs or so, just enough for them to learn to find, and gain the experience of getting to grips with charlie. Confidence is a huge thing with terriers loose it and they take some saving. Its not too bad if your looking at easy ground where you maybee have a dog to ground for only 40-60 minutes, most will stay for that duration, the problems begin to show once the dig is into 3-4 hours, alot of dogs just pull away. I'm quite unfortunate in that alot of the ground I cover is very hard going with very deep earths (8 ft plus is a regular occurance), and quite often a dig can last for hours. Last week for example, what looked like an easy 5ft dig turned into a 7 hour grueller, now had that been a young dog in there, the chances are it would have walked, luckily the bitch that was working the earth is 8 yrs old (friends dog) and knows what to expect. I usually (depending on the character of the dog) give all young dogs an easy first year on charlie (maybee 30-35 fox), then second year they get given about the same amount, but on more difficult earths, then 3rd year is full on they are expected to work any earth, big, or small, for as many hours as it takes. Dont forget a dog is only as good as its last dig, plent dogs jibb when you least expect it. Anyway if you get enjoyment (which is what it should all be about) from showing terriers, and your happy with the way your dogs work, then why worry about what others think. Take no notice of silly comments. I will say one thing and you can take it whichever way you want. Always breed to please your own mind, not to please others, but always breed to improve and maintain what someone else has tried to attain. Gaood luck with the shows, and enjoy your dogs.
  4. Nice Parson russell pups, nothing better than a good Parson russell for hunting, unlike those Jack russells bred for the show ring :welcomeani: Real nice Jack Russell pups pal, hope they make the grade for you.
  5. Sorry pressed the post button before I had finished writing lol. A hard dog is in my mind is as bad as a dog that stands back, it will be laid up more often than its out working, which is no good as you need to be working them regularly during the season when called out. I would never breed for looks, much prefering to breed for temprement. I carnt span my dogs, they are long legged, they are ugly, but find me a better worker, you wouldnt have a chance. This isnt a dig at any of you guys either, I'm just putting across what a working earthdog should work like, in the eyes of every terrierman I have ever known. Just for the record I have also known hunt terriermen that wouldnt know a good dog if it jumped up and bit him on the ****, so dont think because he/she says there a hunts terrierman that their god.
  6. My terriers are 100% earthdogs, that is their job, and they do it very well. There is a difference between a dog that bays and a dog that stands back. Where I come from a dog that stands back is classed as a jibber, it is a coward, it is no good, not a worker at all. A dog needs to be up close to its quarry (within a few inches) and keep charlie boxed up, this means the dog is going to get marked up as charlie comes forward as the dog shouldnt move back. When I dig I only want to dig downwards, not down then across because the dog isnt capable of holding its own. I hate it when I see where people trench earths because the dog isnt upto work.
  7. KC is bad news for any breed out there if they get there hands on them. I fear for my breed (Patterdales), as theres so many people keeping them as pets now that I dont think it will be long before the KC take an interest in them. If I were in your shoes I would be pleased that they re-named the KC russells, as this allows the Jack russell to thrive as a working dog without many parson owners wanting to cross a Jack into their pedigree Parsons, as this would mean getting less for their pups and not being able to register the pups with the KC. I would like to think if the KC did get their hands on the Patterdale terrier that they changed the name, as this would protect the working lines out there. Hope I've made sense?
  8. He has some nice Bessey clamps, wont go far wrong with them .
  9. Good pics. Wish the fields were ready for cutting here.
  10. Complete joke. Had this been any ordinary person, or Joey Barton they would be doing time in HMP. Once again it comes down to a set of rules for them, and a different set for the rest of us. Theres no justice in this country at all.
  11. My daughter named her springer pup Monty. My two are called, Paddy, and Murphy.
  12. yeah. you have to know someone who can verify you. It can be a pain, but it keeps the idiots off the site.
  13. I 'm a member, and its a good site, but its good because its not open to everyone.
  14. Theres little owls not too far away from you, also stacks of tawny owls all over up there.

  16. The little white plastic squeek out of a squeeky toy, a widgeon whistle, and a fox whistle (looks like a widgeon whistle but brass and litttle bit bigger) and use your lips. I used to always carry a minimum of 2 calls in my pocket. If I had used a certain call in an area 1 week then I would use a different call the next time I went there. You dont want foxes getting used to a certain caller as they will soon get used to them.
  17. You've still got these pups for sale? I would have thought your pups would have been snapped up at that price. Stick them on THL they should sell relatively quick on there
  18. I'd have run it over injured or not. Best fox is a dead fox.
  19. I work terriers, also heres some sports I follow/used to play, Ice hockey, athletics, football, gaelic football, hurling.
  20. There was an albino rook that used to hang around here last year. It was well known and hung around a mobile burger bar, where it used to get fed.
  21. Are these 6-7000 totals, the total amount of rabbits you have killed in your lifetime?? If it is,how come alot of you lads have only killed between 1-25 rabbits so far this year (not forgetting we're half way through the year). So taking all that in to consideration, I'll be considerate and say alot of you will only kill, what, 100 rabbits per year, so in ten years thats 1000 rabbits, now you do the rest of the maths. Either theres alot of OAP on here or quite a few lads are bending the truth.
  22. NEWCASTLE United owner Mike Ashley is in talks with the Singapore-based company The Profitable Group over a possible sale. The Chronicle can reveal that the far east strategic global investment group are currently preparing a package to bid for £100million-rated Newcastle with Toon tycoon Ashley officially putting the club up for sale yesterday. The Profitable Group are understood to have a strong Geordie connection and have ex-Liverpool and England midfield battler Steve McMahon on board as Group Commercial Director. And it is understood that the group have an ambitious plan to involve the fans at St James’s Park more than ever. Indeed, the company’s initial blueprint, which was disclosed to the Chronicle today from the far east, claims a successful bid would see them: Plan to turn United into a trust which will give Toon fans a major say in club politics and draw similarities with the Barcelona model in La Liga To appoint Alan Shearer as boss and back the Geordie legend with transfer funds to help the Magpies fight their way out of the Championship. Ensure that a footballing figure will be appointed at boardroom level to ensure the series of high profile errors of Mike Ashley era aren’t repeated To increase the capacity of St James’s Park to 60,000 A Profitable Group source told the Chronicle today from Singapore said: "Yes we are interested in buying Newcastle United - and we’re putting together a plan. "We have spoken with Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias and we are hoping that we can reveal a lot more in the next few days. "We have people within the company who have strong Geordie roots that stretch more than 40 years. "And there are people here who have a love for the club - we think that is vital for Newcastle at the moment. "The plan we have in mind is to get the club on a sound financial footing first and foremost. "Then we aim to turn the club into a trust. "It will be very similar to the Barcelona model where fans have a major say on what happens at the club. "Without any question we see Alan Shearer as the man to manage the team. "Yes, we have Steve McMahon on board but he is not looking into management. "He is though a football man and understands the game inside out. "There is also scope to look at increasing the capacity to 60,000 which is being explored. "We will look to give Alan money to spend and funds to build his squad - but we have to say now that we are not interested in highly paid players at this moment in time - we won’t be a Chelsea." The source, who spoke to us before boarding a flight to a business meeting, made it clear Shearer, who has been backed overwhelmingly by the Tyneside public, was their number one choice. "What this club needs now is somebody who understands the area, understands the people and how this club works. "Steve McMahon can offer expertise in the background. But Alan is the man we want." However, the next move is all dependent on the co-operation of Ashley, Llambias and Seymour Pierce investment banker Keith Harris who has been entrusted to sell the club. The source added: "We are not in the business of misleading people. "We have put a plan together and it’s one we think that the fans will be behind. "Newcastle is a fabulous club and we are hoping that we can reveal more in the next few days." At least there's something to grasp onto here. taken from another site.
