Good Post and i take your comments fully on board. Fact of the matter is dogs ARE supposed to be on leashes OR under control of the owner responsible for them and that is the law. It just is NOT enforced. A well trained dog walking along side it's master is fine as long as it is under control fully. I also know where your comming from about dogs and sheep it also happens with dogs and other animals like horses and cows and pigs etc. I used to work on a farm for 3 year and the FARMERS dog was a *** The farmer was nearly trampled by his cattle when the dog nipped at the cows ankles The fact of the matter is it is HARDER to control cats roaming than dogs as most dogs are kept indoors and on a leash whilst out though there are of course the ones who don't care and let the dogs out to roam too but these dogs can be impounded and the owners fined where as cats i would say 99% roam freely. Cats in America and in Australia have DESIMATED the small wildlife such as rodents and birds to such an extent they are shot on sight in some states and as said in Australia are kept in runs or indoors and the owners FINED if they are found roaming LG cats that are found roaming in the bush in oz are shot on sight ! my pitbull dingo cross used to tree them and id give them a barrel full of no 2 shot or bb s. not sporting but the gov wants them eradicated as they cause such environmental damage.

australia m8, its 33x the size of britain with only 20 million people, it sounds like a cliche but it still is the land of oppertunity. theres millions of wild boar, geese, rabbits, and all sorts of other nice tasting stuff , and the best thing about it is , is that the government doesnt treat the law abiding working man like a complete &*%$. im back there in may for a month so ill post loads of pics when i get back.

thanks m8

I thought the same thing me self. Prehaps hummer has an explaination. no explanation needed really. even though it was too dark to use the range finder it was obviously a long shot , but i have shot the 6.5 for over 15yrs and shot over 300 wild boar and scores of roos and the odd goat. the combo is spot on for 150yds and i held what i thought would be an inch or so above his eye. the round hit himon his jaw hinge and caused devastating damage. there was a breeze from left to right about 5miles an hour. i would never take a shot on a live animal that i was not positive, would end its life. i would not have attempted that shot with a 222 or hmr (too far) at night but felt confident with the 6.5. in answer to the ticket question, my certificate says "the cert holder may posses, purchase , or aquire expanding ammunition, in calibres authorised by this cert and use only in connection with the shooting of vermin or in connection with the management any estate, wildlife." ps sussex lad went back this am with his rangefinder and measured it. Why on earth did you try to head shoot it at that range? You even admit to the bullet not hitting where you thought it would? Why not the chest? Sounds to me like you could just as easily have removed it its jaw without killing and left it to starve to death. A misplaced chest shot, bad as it is, will still stop it going too far and allow a second shot, if you blow its jaw off whats to stop it runnuing full pelt as far as it can? Even though they rip chickens apart for fun, i still treat them with respect! Regardless of what you say, that sounds like a frivoulous shot to me! pedantry is obviously your thing fister, by the way ,a name that probably says a lot about you on the gay circuit. yes i should have said "eyes" if id have aimed for the chest as you advocate, and been off, then surely i may equally have wounded it by taking a leg off .frivolous your post was, but the shot was not.

having a good bit of glass on top of your rifle is also a must. the scope is a doctor optic 6x42. not huge magnification but when the lenses are that quality it really makes a difference to your shooting. on my hummer i have a tasco 24x50 but at night the doctors optics really make a difference and the clarity really shows. not that the tasco is a bad scope, far from it, but at night magnification can be a hinderance. also sussex lad is an infinately more experienced lamper than i and your shot is only as good as the bloke holding the lamp

the same way everyone else has ask for it 6.5 is the largest round that Plod is advised to grant for Fox control as a seperate condition (not to say larger cant be granted) 6.5 is a great round for foxes, its what i use the most on them. very destructive, but thats not a problem its just humaine. Quite flat shooting with the 95grain B-T Also deadly accurate whta load do use for foxing duganick?
-
i have an open ticket ie " for estate management"
-
Yes, the 6.5 can be loud without mod. Well done, cracking fox , great shooting too. Thats some distance. What make of rifle is it? its a sporterised m98 by kimber with a synthetic stock. its also got a pachmyer pad as because its so light, she has got a kick, especially when prone.and yes i think ill get a moderator for lamping even if its just to save sussex lads hearing the round was a140grn federal classic. ive definately got the fox bug now so the rabbits might get a bit of a rest the scope is a 6x42 doctor optic ( fantastic scope)

i think it was called rabbit heamoragic disorder. or the calisi virus in aus

an article in sporting shooter says that the 50 calibre has been usurped as king of the long kill by the .408 cheytac. ballistically superior , user friendlier, better penetration .apparently the delta force is ditching the light 50 and using these . there is a bloke in townsville that has a .50 for buffalo shooting in the gulf of carpentaria. and he reckoned it had no real advantage over the .416 taylor or a solid slug from his mossberg trophy slugster as the only ammo he could get was fmj and it often zipped through the buff with no expansion. i suppose that even a slight hit on a man would be fatal but on a one ton buff that will kill you with much relish if you miss , its a different story.

Why? Are you wanting to just annoy it Frank? You'd need a wee bit more artillery than that I fear. I think we'd easily be into 7x57 territory with these babies! We could all go out and get Drillings on our tickets if this sport starts up again, as I'm sure it will have to. Bring back 12g slugs... and so on! There's a permission I have near Winchester and when out on a stalk a few weeks back with my trainer he identified what looked like absolutley typical Boar activity along the ride we were stalking, and he'd know as he's hunted them in Poland. All the right sign showing. He also mentioned that a Boar had been shot very recently only 7 miles away on an adjoining estate. It was at about that same moment that I started wishing I could get 300grain bullets to go through my .25-06! :yp: ive shot several hundred boar in oz in nine years, the vast majority with a 6.5x55 with 139grn pmc rounds and never lost one. the 6.5m kills out of all proportion to its size . i have sho5t a few with sg,s which have 8 shot to the oz and they too were also a very handy shotgun load in thick scrub or lignum. didnt use the solids in the shotty much as they wouldnt take them at the abbatoir if they had too much damage.

hi rayo. do you mean the 1400? i had one for many years in australia until the semi auto ban. i always left it closed without the cap ion it and never had a problem.the only cleaning it ever got was a wipe down with a cloth sprayed with wd40 and a quick spray in the chamber now and again.

lovely bit of land salmon. cant see why he wouldnt let you use a shotty or a .22 for that matter. good luck

its really about time we brits really did stick our heads above the parapet and say to our politicians that it is not xenophobic , racsist or jingoistic to want to celebrate our patron saints day . every other race creed or religion abiding here does it and in a free society ,why not. the great shame on us is that weve been pceed into thinking its wrong. vote now either way and have your say. oops beg pardon , getting politcal again tme for bed.
