  1. Yes they can check your details via a PNC check and they can find out all the details of every shotgun or firearm you possess ... Me and a friend were out with the air rifles some weeks ago and we were attacked by a local who didn't believe we had permission to be there, there was a scuffle and we called the police. They eventually arrived and we had a chat... I explained that I never carry my actual certificate with me and I have been informed to ask for a PNC check in the event of being accosted by the police I was quite surprised when the one copper didn't know he could retrieve such info on the check the female officer did know and done the check... it took about 10mins but all the info came back and he asked which gun I had with me. Not once was I asked to show my certificate, even when another copper came the following day to take a statement
  2. I have to agree CI... I have open certificate for FAC Air, 22LR, HMR and .222 and only possessed FAC for 2 and a half years. I phoned and had a conversation with my FEO about getting into Deer Stalking and was in two minds over a .243... the result of the conversation was a grant for .308 (closed) and Muntjac and CWD added to my .222 As far as my FAC goes i've never had to argue anything, if i've asked for something and been told to wait then i've waited.... to my knowledge that was for open on the Air rifle after 18 months and he told me to wait til I had it 2 years, which I did and I was rewarded with all of the above. Also just to add, if my ticket has had to go back for any reason, variation, conditions removed/changed etc it has never been out of my possession for more than a week I hope that this will continue all through my shooting life, however long it lasts
  3. Some good suggestions there and yes, Tim Westwood and Jeremy Kyle both get my vote... I would love to massage their heads with a shovel
  4. It sounds to me like you've really pee'd on their chips M8 and now they are doing everything in their power to make things very very difficult for you

  6. I spoke to a barrister (he's a close friend of my uncle) regarding this just as some advice as i'm told there are a lot of "grey" areas surrounding firearms law... Basically as there are only guidelines to the law then each force can interpret the law as they see fit BUT... so can each defence.... What the conversation boiled down to is, that you can use an estate rifle as an agent of the estate ... if you have a written permission document stating that you have been given permission to undertake vermin control or pest control duties on the land then you effectively become "employed" (whether paid or unpaid) by the landowner and as such you become an agent of the estate and any person shooting with you has permission by proxy - as long as the permission to be accompanied has been given by the landowner. As I cannot guarantee that any force would or would not accept this, I know after speaking to my FEO he accepted that this is viable and as they frequently ask for mentoring on a lot of applications then it is only reasonable to follow that as a general rule. The same questions begs every time... "How could you expect someone to learn if they cannot be taught properly ??" IMO You learn by doing not by watching
  7. It doesn't just relate to Deer... this is a excerpt taken from the HO Firearms Law Guidelines to the Police "Exemptions 4.4 Section 10 of the 1997 Act amended section 5A(4) of the 1968 Act to exempt from the general prohibition on expanding ammunition people who use it for specific purposes. The exemptions cover those people who use expanding ammunition for the: 1. lawful shooting of deer; 2. shooting of vermin or, in the course of estate management, other wildlife; 3. humane killing of animals; and 4. shooting animals for the protection of other animals or humans." What it doesn't say (as far as i've read) is that non expanding ammunition is not to be used. I have always been told that FMJ or non expanding ammo is not allowed to be used in the field.
  8. The standard CZ 527 American twist rate is 1:12in and the varmint came with two twist rates either 1:9in or 1:12in
  9. Bit of a different situation there as you haven't had ticket for long and never filled a slot that you asked for. They are still treating you as a new shooter as you haven't shown much experience, on paper at least
  10. Here in Gwent force area the HMR is preferred over the 22LR as there is much less chance of a ricochet. Also once they evaluate a piece of land, if its passed for 22LR use then its more than likely passed for rimfire in general which means it doesn't need re-evaluation or new signed permission to get the calibre granted. If you have the permission then a 1-4-1 from 22LR to .17HMR should be straightforward
  11. Warne mounts are available in 19mm and are decent mounts, they won't break the bank either
  12. Only knowing of S&B with regards to HMR ammo, then people are raving about them as a fine round and sought after so... if they make their cartridges as well as that then you're getting a bargain
  13. I read a post yesterday about shooting foxes in a mate's back garden with a 22LR... The kicker was it was in a housing estate and a heavily built up one at that... I'm sure I read it on here but it could have been another forum ... has anyone seen it I would like to know how that one panned out

  16. They're sold for target use... Like I said i'm not 100% sure but I was led to believe that you're not allowed to use non-expanding ammo for hunting, only target use
  17. You should start making some to sell on here say about £2 each if you do i'll take 10 lol :look:
  18. Ah Kirky... he was the guy who drove mixers for Tarmac weren't he... he was a nuttah :look: wish him all the best from another former Tarmac mixer driver

  20. I was under the impression that FMJ ammo is not legal for field use/hunting I don't think there is a 20gr ballistic tip for the HMR only hollow points... I'm not 100% sure though :good: :look:
