  1. Yeah. It's pretty brainless stuff from Argentina. A win here sets their tournament up nicely. But they're just not thinking!
  2. Indeed so. Halfway line drop goal? Nice!
  3. Couldn't even get to 3 minutes without going down to 14. Thems the rules, but I think the Argentine was pretty lucky not to join Curry with a red card. Not a great start to our tournament
  4. Oh give over. As @billytheghillieand @nobbyathomehave said, GG's photos are all of the highest quality and a credit to the forum. His photos are always some of the best that appear in the phots section and I'd rather see his shots than a pile of dead things strewn on the ground. Top work as eve @GREENGRASS Nice to see a bunch of your photos appear again ad with some more unusual subjects too
  5. Excellent stuff. What time of day was this?
  6. A falconer would be a great teaching tool. The kids would love it and it's a great way to teach them about wildlife management, predation and avian biology at a really accessible level. Serious cool points if your school's got a falcon on its list of staff members! How effective it would be in the long run is a matter for debate. If the problem's really that bad, the bird would have to be there 24/7 really and there are still no guarantees. In Dorchester town centre there are two churches with spires within very close proximity to each other. Pigeons love one and there are peregrines nesting on the other. Not much deterrent going on there! Netting works, but it doesn't look great and you'd need a heck of a lot of it. There's also the danger of it not deterring the birds but actively trapping them, which is a slow death and the caretaker won't thank you for adding 'untangling dead and rotting pigeons' to his job description. As @Ultrastu suggests, you might have to resort to Sunday morning shootings with an air rifle, at least for a while, to bring the numbers down rapidly.
  7. Yeah that's about the size of it. Mead and Williamson are both out with ACL injuries. Kirby's had a terrible season with fitness problems and Ellen White's retired. Defensively we've coped without Williamson, but the other three have proved irreplaceable. Australian striker Sam Kerr's testament to how critical Kirby is as a creator at Chelsea. With Kirby fit, Kerr was banging in 20 league goals a season. Last season, without Kirby for much of it, she scored 10. For all James' excitement, she doesn't unlock defences like Kirby or score a volume of goals like Mead. Hemp's a quality player and so is Russo, but neither of them are raw poachers with a striker's instinct for sussing out a half chance like White was. But we got to the World Cup final, so...the kids are alright!
  8. Yes that's a huge positive. With Kirby and Mead there, we would have taken that Spain to the cleaners. Without them, we got to the final; a great statement of improving depth.
  9. aye this was the problem. A great game plan that we just didn't deal with. Still, a lot of positives. An under-strength England getting to the final and only losing 1-0? That's a good few weeks at the office
  10. Yeah. As I feared at the beginning of the tournament, we just miss that bit of magic in the midfield, and the clinical finishing up front. They've done superbly to get to the final, but ultimately the team that created and finished the chances deserved to win.
  11. just tediously desperate. yeah I think the change of shape might help. We need to get a grip in midfield and stretch them
  12. Bronze's fault. If you leave your position, don't lose the ball. Space wide open for Spain to exploit
  13. We have our wish. Toone keeps her place! Come on England! time to bring it home
  14. Who - Hemp or James? If you mean Hemp, I must call you out, sir, and it will be grass before breakfast! If you mean James, then I agree. Her skillset's undeniable, but she's lazy and often dallies on the ball too long. She doesn't have the vision for her team mates and she has a selfish streak a mile wide. As a 21 year old striker that's expected, but we'll need a high work rate against Spain and she just doesn't bring that. If we had a full strength squad, she'd be an impact sub. As it is, in this squad...she should still be an impact sub for a world cup final. I'd pick the same team. They delivered against a high quality Aus side and no one deserves to be dropped for a player that stamped on someone.
  15. Not seen Nikita Parris play then?
  16. This was the best they've played since losing the spine of the team: Williamson, Kirby, Mead and White. Hemp's run for the third goal was something else. Russo might have provided the coup de grace, but it was Hemp that did all the work!
  17. I'm with @twenty. Leucism's very rare, but it's still the most likely option! If you get a photo of it, we might be able to give you a positive ID, but this sounds the likeliest option right now
  18. 1x Daiwa Emcast BR LT 4000 + spare spool, loaded with a full spool of fresh unused 13lb Fox Exocet, second spool's unloaded. 1x Daiwa Black Widow BR LT 5000 loaded with a full spool of fresh unused 13lb Fox Exocet 250m spare of fresh Exocet on its spool and in its tin. The reels are in excellent condition and work faultlessly. Happy to post for extra. Would split for £50 each £90 for both
  19. No I hadn't paid too much attention to them as a live act until recently; I was always an Oasis fan, but they're boring live. I then stumbled over Common People from Reading Festival and thought yeah, that's how good music live can be! I'd forgotten I had actually heard that gig live...from over 4.5 miles away. Where I used to live was up the hill on the other side of the Thames from Reading festival site. If the wind was in the right direction you could hear the festival pretty well. Some bands, like Pulp that year, didn't need the wind. Site to house, as the Pulp flies
  20. As The Ashes hit fever pitch and my nerves got ever more shredded, I found myself listening to Pulp, including some of their live performances. We started taking wickets just as I put them on, and got the job done simply because I refused to listen to anything else, so I am the unsung hero of Sunday. But it got me thinking. Who are the best front men and women - excluding solo artists? I'm not a massive fan of Pulp, but Jarvis Cocker knows how to command a crowd. Their gig from Reading in 2011 and in particular Common People was a thing of wonder. Any others? Regardless of whether, as in my case, you love the band or not
