  1. My .22 is zeroed at 60 yards, when I started with the .22 first after owning a .17hmr for a couple of years I tried all different distances and found 60 yards to be the best for me. Like Kent says, a zero much further than 60-70 yards you need to start aiming low at the closer rabbits which is something I have always found hard to do especially if the shot is rushed.
  2. I am not entirely sure, all he said was that he was filling out the application and needed my details so he could get it sent to SNH and he would get back to me when the licence comes through.
  3. One of the local farmers phoned me up the other day wondering if I would go on his licence and my needed my full name and address to go on the paper work.
  4. 52gr A-max is all I use in the .223 because I can order it through the post and hold a fair stock of them. I use them mainly on rabbits and find the damage pretty bad which doesn't bother me as I am not eating them and dead is dead.
  5. I didn't seem to have the camera out much this last season for some reason but here is two photos from two of my most memorable trips of the season. The first one is a morning with my friend and his H&H 4 bore and the second is the bag after a couple of days of snow and frost (my favourite fowling conditions).
  6. I use PPU 180gr soft points in my 30-06 and it groups 3 shots under an inch at 100 and so far they have worked well on the deer I have shot, they get a thumbs up from me .
  7. When the rabbits on the farm around our house get lamp shy I leave shooting them for a while and when I walk the dog at night I take the lamp and shine all around making sure to light up any rabbits I see, after a couple of weeks doing this I find the rabbits seem to get used to it and sit better. This might work if your permission is handy with home.
  8. I had a hooded crow do that to a mallard. I had hung the mallard on a fence meaning to pick it up on the way back to the car as I had forgotten my bag, when I got back I saw a crow get up from where I had left it. I was expecting the crow to have destroyed it but it was just the head gone.

  10. Thanks guys. Vhit powder seems to be really hard to get up here for some reason, both the RFD's seem to be able to to get hodgdon powder though.
  11. Excellent. I have seen and handled a pinfire but never shot one. Well done
  12. Thanks Underdog. I have had a quick look at a few sites and varget and H4895 looks promising which is good as my RFD has that both in stock.
  13. A good friend of mine that I reload with has just purchased a .308 and we were wondering if anyone on here had any good loads for their .308 just to give us a starting point. Thanks in advance.
  14. I still have 2 of the 3 winchokes below, improved cylinder and half. £15 each inc P&P paypal plus fees preferred or check.
  15. There is a couple of guys up here who brag about the ranges they can shoot, according to one he said his AYA 25 with 36gr no3 could knock geese down at 80 yards all day!!!!!! I always think if you stand at one end of a football pitch and look down towards the other end its a long way off, if a goose or a duck went past at the penalty spot I wouldn't even consider lifting the gun to it.
  16. I had a very good season on the geese, had quite a few birds and shot better than average but the ducks were a different story. All the usual places where I would hope to see a few mallard coming in at night were dead and my shooting was appalling when I did get a chance. I was shooting too far ahead every time. I would have said there was fewer mallard around this season but a lot more teal, I shot more teal this season than any season before. I have been quite busy at home working on our extension so I haven't been out through the day walking up ditches or decoying splashes which usually puts a few birds in the bag over the course of the season. But as they say the birds will stay fresher on the wing and if I am spared there will always be another season. Happy hunting
  17. Just reading the other replies and have realized I have read the OP wrong, I thought he was asking about crimp dies . I still neck size as when I did it first with the .223 I did notice a difference in the group size plus I find it quicker reloading using a neck sizer as you don't need to use lube. Also I don't have to trim to length every time as I did full length sizing, I may be doing things wrong but it works for me.
  18. with my reloading it made a difference to the .223 and a big difference to the .22 hornet. I would recommend trying it.
  19. I bought a second hand lee full length sizing die in 308 a while back for a friend and it has been in my shed for a few months now. He has finally bought a 308 and when I had a look at the die the other night there was a film of rust inside the die and there seemed to be a lot of crud sticking inside it too. Can these dies be taken apart for cleaning? Or can you recommend a way of cleaning it, I reckon it is old lube that has gathered dust and gone hard. Thanks in advance for any help.
  20. Well done 4 bore, always great to be out with the big guns
  21. There was a couple of the purse netters up here that had clay traps fitted on the stern, it gave the crew something to do while waiting.
