  1. They do catch them on little unweighted jigs under floats but aimed at only a few feet off bottom, I've only ever used the weighted ones which are bumped and crawled just off bottom. Let 'em sink and stop briefly and then reel back into them, often the jig is grabbed as it comes 'alive' again.
  2. I do hope so, it's repetitive to say the least. I'd just like to commend David for keeping his cool in the face of some of the most thick headed, antagonistic posting I've ever seen on here, and managing to keep things on track, despite some people seemingly being incapable of grasping the basic point and preferring to argue the finer points rather than looking to deal with what needs to be done!
  3. They're only going to take them down the nick and have a firearms officer make them safe if needed and lock them away. I don't think they're like to try and load them for a bit of plinking.
  4. Secure the vehicle, make them aware that it's there. I wouldn't do anything else, it's not like you were illegally carrying it.
  5. It's the same guy, just goes to show how it drags on! I can see why they have revoked but cannot condone it in any way. If anything he showed level hotheadedness and restraint by shooting the tyres out rather than putting both barrels through the screen!
  6. I fully understand and accept that, but the nuts and bolts is that if lead is banned by the selfish actions of others, you're screwed, simple as that. There'll be no arguing the merits of the Scottish system/inadequacies of ours, it'll be banned, gone, defunct. All the chewing the cud and arguing the finer points on here is going to make sod all difference if compliance doesn't go through the roof this season though. Personally I wouldn't be that concerned if lead did go. I use steel, know how to use it and have two guns both steel proof, I'd just start shooting pigeon with steel. It would create me bigger problems at the clay ground to be honest with potential ricochets, and, at the end of the day, lead is a better all round shot and I'd rather use it where I can.
  7. I do have to wonder why this comment keeps getting repeated when the answer is so bloody obvious! If you can only use lead in your gun and you don't have/can't get another, you'll have to stop shooting. Which is why most of the to-ing and fro-ing and bull that has been thrown around this thread for the last dozen pages is irrelevant! It's so simple it's untrue! As has been said once or twice, compliance is where we are at, simple as that! If you shoot lead, don't shoot ducks and geese. If you want to shoot ducks and geese, don't use lead. If you know someone else is using lead to shoot ducks and geese, get it stopped or reported so someone with a pair can get it stopped. There will be an awful lot of mightily peed off rough/pigeon shooters if lead is banned because game shooters can't get their house in order. If you wanted to fragment shooters, I can't think of a better way. There is a law in place, it needs to be adhered to, simple as that.
  8. Shingle beach running to sand, tidal range here averages 6m, so would have been in maybe 4-6 metres of water.
  9. I caught cuttles less than 20 yards off the beach at HW last year....
  10. Who exactly are Eyeglass and Gunsmoke? You both throw around information freely and generally seem to have it in for BASC and the processes involved in this situation so far, yet do so with the impunity of the anonymous. It's almost as if the aim is to divide and conquer, something that a couple of lateral thinking antis might have come up with even. I'm afraid I cannot take seriously anything which may be nothing more than unsubstantiated rumour mongering.
  11. Are you sure a cracked heads junk?
  12. Personally, knife between the eyes.
  13. Not a criticism dude, just asking the question. Personally I'd try and shoot them somewhere you have a better chance of picking them up if the dog was out of action, I use a dog and while I agree they can cause a bit of damage, its far less than me traipsing around would do and if the farmer wants pigeons shot he has to accept that a small amount of damage is likely. That said, it's your permission and only you know your farmer so only you can make the call.
  14. It makes naff all difference what I do or don't regularly do, or whether or not I have EVER broken a law. What I don't do is regularly and repetitively break the same law which, if my memory serves me right, is what this thread boils down to. With regard to the actual question, I can confidently say that I have never broken the law on lead shot despite using both lead and steel and shooting wildfowl. If I can do it so can the other *******. I even have two guns (oh the shock of it) for the different scenarios I shoot and that's just because I can, even if I can't afford to shoot game!
  15. As and when for me too, they are extended chokes though and get regularly twiddled so have never stuck.
  16. The question is irrelevant. Come and ask me again when they decide to reduce the speed limits on a public highway due to non compliance with the speed limits. But, I will say that while I can't say never, I don't habitually make the conscious decision to speed, if it does happen it's because I wasn't paying sufficient attention and made a mistake. We're not talking about the occasional mistake here, it's people flouting the law on every duck shoot because they can't be ***** to comply. I don't buy into the cost considerations, people who can afford driven game shoots can afford a few boxes of shells or a dedicated 'Lanber' if they so must shoot the family heirloom at pheasant and partridge.
  17. LOL! I was there. FishyRob is a South coast fishing guide, all round top bloke and a mate of mine. He introduced me to the joys of squidding. He's also currently educating me on the joys of river bassing with soft plastic lures creating weedless/snag resistant luring!
  18. So be it. The law is the law, simple as that. If they want to shoot duck they'll have to comply. If that means buying a newer gun, so be it. If that means buying expensive NTS, so be it. If that means stopping driven duck drives, so be it. If they don't like it, tough ****! It's the law, it's immaterial whether it's a good law or a logical law, it's a law. It was no different for the wildfowlers when it came in. If they used older guns they made their choices, one of those choices though wasn't to break the law and sod the consequences!
  19. My local ground now know me and rarely ask, but occasionally do just to keep me on my toes. All other grounds I've bought at have asked every time as do my local gunshops.
