I was the same, and there's nothing that I can add to the above sentiment. RIP John.

 Not before time either, Harrys acquittal is amazingly convenient, but I'm sure it's justice taking its true course...so what's the odds against him being offered the job by the weekend?

Don't get me wrong, that's driving like a wimp, and I can get it below 18 without too much effort. So, I take it 30mpg is generally accepted as unrealistic? Oh, and Welsh Lamb, I'm not arguing over anything. It's just that if they can do 30+ mpg, then I would reconsider one as I actually really like mine, it's just not big enough. If they can't then I will still sell my SWB and buy a Discovery.
-
I have a SWB Pajero 2.8 td that manages around 25mpg, it's an auto. A friend has a LWB that he alleges does 30 or so MPG. Anyone else got one of the older 2.8's that can confirm this ...or laugh loudly and tell me it's a load of tosh!!!
-
If you want a decent sized boot then that rules out the Freelander and SWB Shogun, don't know about the Suzi, never had one. So a LWB Shogun fits the bill, but they are expensive to run, which is why, if it were me I'd buy a Discovery. Plenty big enough, comfortable and another 10mpg out of it. I am so sure on this that I will soon be putting my 2.8TD SWB Shogun up for sale and buying a Disco.

We've agreed to disagree on this exact same point in the past Kent and I'm sure we'll get no further this time. Fact is that the rabbit was shot cleanly, and fell over with hardly a twitch. When I walked to recover it I realised that it wasn't on the 'mark' I thought it was and indeed was further. Out of curiosity, I then got out the faithful measuring twine and while I'll not guarantee it to the nearest inch, to the nearest foot definitely and probably six inches. You can take that or leave it, I know what happened and am happy at that. AirArms S400 running at a regularly chrono'd 11.2 on AirArms Fields. I shoot quite a bit mate too, so you can take your "...anyone who has actually shot such ranges will tell you that one." comments and judgmental attitude, and spout them off at someone who really cares what you have to say buddy.
-
When shooting the air rifle, I tend to walk the ground and measure out a few pertinent points over the shooting area, I carry a small spool of twine, 40 yards long and a knot tied every ten metres which I then use to 'mark' a few landmarks, if there's nothing I also carry those little plastic plant tags, stick one of those in the ground every 10 yards and you have an instant ready reckoner, unfortunately, in the case above I (thought) I knew the ranges already.
-
Sub 12, I head shot a rabbit at what turned out to be 62 yards. I mucked up on my 'marks' and actually thought it was at 45, it was still a clean kill albeit something I wouldn't have tried if I'd realised, and have no intention of trying again. Just goes to show that there's still very little drop over those 17 yards.

Could I run a car on waste veg oil
-Mongrel- replied to yankeedoodlepigeon's topic in Motoring Section
That's the trick of it though. If you make it yourself then you can get it up to EN standard, but, many don't make the effort and while you'll get away with it in older vehicles, you're in trouble with common rail stuff. If you are buying from a commercial operation you should be OK though. Face it, if their fuel isn't up to standard they leave themselves open to be sued. -
***! Proper keyboard warrior mentality! Talks like a man but turns into a boy when his bluff is called.

Proper biodiesel is filtered to at least 1 micron, that's 7 times finer than the average diesel filter. One issue you shouldn't have is blocking anything due to impurities. If you're worried, it's cheap enough to buy a 1 micron sock filter to pre filter the bio. My Renault Trafic van is CDti and runs better on bio than on pump diesel and has been doing so for over 15k miles now. -
It's got several cracking race circuits...Catragena, Almeria, Valencia, Aragon, Ricardo Tomas etc etc as well as Catalunya.

At long last, somebody who has managed to venture more than 500 yards from their sunbed at the Hotel Costa del ****hole. The touristy parts of Spain are, as they are here, best avoided. Get into most areas of Spain and you will find a warm, welcoming, sociable people who are equally amazed that they have met a Brit who isn't bladdered, wearing Union Jack shorts and a sunburn while waving a pint of Lager around and shouting loudly in English to try and get themselves understood. As well as country of quite amazing culture, scenery and vistas in parts. Travel broadens the mind they say, but a 2 hour flight and 20 minute coach transfer it would appear isn't quite traveled enough.

'Classic' car status for cheaper insurance
-Mongrel- replied to casts_by_fly's topic in Motoring Section
However, as fine a car as an old Landy is, you will almost certainly spend a degree of time covered in oil and grease, you need to be able to buy into the Classic Land Rover ethos, and that includes questionable reliability. Personally I drive a swb Shogun which is my shooting/fishing bus, it's qualifies for a club discount when you join the Shogun owners club, and although it's not very economical, mine runs on waste veg oil/biodiesel which is available at approx 60p/£1.22 litre respectively, that makes running costs very sensible. The 60p I quote is available all day long on ebay, if you can find your own source you can on occasion get it for free, and I have bought several job lots that worked out at less than 20p/litre. Alternatively I'd probably point you toward an older Suzuki jeep, Rav4 etc, cheap to buy, run and pretty reliable if uninspiring. -
Did you chew or spit?

Good luck with that one when the dog decides your step-father has over stepped the mark! Both of my dogs are below all family members in this house and IMO that is exactly how it should be, even my 12 year old will tell them what to do, and they do it because they know that the Alpha in the pack will back the child over them. We have no issues with dog aggression in any way, anyone can take their food from them, they do NOT sleep on the bed, or get on the sofa either, they have beds if they want somewhere soft, they generally choose the lounge rug when we are in there. Some people really should remember that it's a dog, not another human member of the family.
-
It'll be a rare dog if it doesn't want to eat just about any poo it comes across, never mind scavenging anything edible it finds regardless of how long it's been there, in my experience.
-
That's the plan, we are affording it at the moment, and at some point it will get easier to rent...so much vacant property at the moment that it's a renters market, they are pushing the prices lower every year just to get SOME business.

To be honest, I'm more worried about what it will mean for my Spanish mortgage. I am in negative equity, which isn't a problem as I don't intend to sell it, but what happens if their currency crashes? It is so sad, they are in general nice people in a lovely part of the World, but they really are suffering at the moment, you see it everywhere.
-
Completely agree with 90% of what you've written, only difference is my dogs have the run of the house, but the bedroom doors are kept shut, and they have their own bean bag beds rather than crates. Cockercas, you say you let your dog take food from inside your mouth, but won't let it lick your face, where the Hell's the difference? It's still dog snout/spit around your mouth . You share food therefore you share saliva, only difference is that you are DEFINITELY ingesting it rather than hopefully wiping it off. I don't even let my dogs lick my face I should add and if they get any of my food it's in their bowl or possibly from my hand...which I will wash before eating. Sorry mate, but that's just a bit too close a relationship with your dog IMO.

Easy one this. Although I've had some seriously hairy motors over the years (Cossies, TVR's, M3 etc), my favourite however was a Volvo! Yes, I know, solid, staid, boring, driven by old fellas in a flat cap... ...unless you get a V70r. It's 2.5 litre, AWD, turbocharged beastie, sitting on uprated brakes and suspension with magnesium alloys, goes well, especially by the time it's had a few choice engine mods that push it closer to 300 than it's standard 250 bhp. ...And the best thing, it looks like a normal V70. So no boy racers wanting to rip it away from the lights against you, no hassle from the Boys in Blue, yet goes like stink when you ARE in the mood. Ultimate stealth motor as far as I'm concerned, still don't know why I sold it!
