117,000 miles on a 'relatively' modern car shouldn't be an issue, gone are the days where if it had done 100k you'd be worried. If it has been well maintained then it wouldn't worry me at all. That is the trick of it though, IF it has been well maintained. General condition should give an idea, look for silly things like is the engine bay clean? If they can be ***** to keep the engine bay clean then they probably kept it serviced, a full service history would of course be much better although a recent service history say from 60-70k miles would alleviate many fears for me, before that it may well have been dealer maintained anyway. As for it being petrol and thirsty (ish), if you get on with it, LPG is always an option. If it cost a grand to fit, how long to recoup your money at 70 odd pence per litre?

The BASC link you posted makes for interesting reading but I am going to try some of the alternatives. I do seem to be missing quite a bit on the marsh, far more than my clay ground averages suggest I should be anyway. As such, you have PM

All good until that **** Vine comes on, so it's off to Smooth for a couple of hours before Wrighty comes on and Mayo on the way home...nice.

An older Discovery or Shogun/Pajero diesel and run it on veg oil? Admittedly you will struggle to get 30 mpg ...but with clean veg oil available at under £1 a litre and waste veg oil much cheaper (requires extra work though)...? You can make your own choices re paying the extra duty on the veg oil.

Interesting, but also spawns another question. The link Poontang pt up contained the following 'Please note that there are other forms of Tungsten shot which are of a Tungsten Iron mixture that are not suitable for British made guns.' However on the Gamebore website I read about Tungsten matrix, as well as TMX which appears to be a Tunsten and steel shot mix, any thoughts on that? Gamebore link

Cheers for the response, I must admit that I was hoping for something a bit more expansive though!

To transform the old Pajero...cheaply! Despite a rockier than expected start it's now roadworthy, however it needs quite a bit of tarting up and some of it will be just waitinbg for the right bits to turn up on fleabay, the rest is time, effort and a little imagination!

I need to find an alternative to steel as I want to use a Beretta 301 on the marsh, but it's not steel proofed. As I understand it, I can use Bismuth or Hevi-shot through the gun...is that correct? Do you have to go up a shot size with these as you would steel (ie if you were using a no4 lead cart it would be a 3 in steel)? Do you have the same choke restrictions that you have with steel ie no tighter than half choke? Are there any other viable alternatives? Finally....and I'm already donning the asbestos suit for this one, what is the likely outcome of using steel through the Beretta if I follow the choking rules and, is it legal to do so?

Roll Mops = good, pickled eggs are just wrong on so many levels! I like eggs, just not rubbery, vinegary ones!

Ideal Logic units are still running 5 year warranties, always a good selling point.

Check out some feedback if you can first, they're not exactly renowned for reliability. Sure some are OK, others are a nightmare! As an installer I'd push you back towards Vaillant, then Worcester Bosch.

Hell yes! Love 'em! Seriously into pickled Anchovies ATM too!

Mine turned up today, only 'like'd and emailed about 4 days ago, all good!

I have the opportunity of a Beretta 301, it's 28", multi choked and apparently in top order in a standard wood finish. Is it worth it? I am looking for a fowling gun so don't want to spend loads on something for the salt to tear apart, but just wonder if the 301 is getting a little too long in the tooth now? Opinions please.

Better story in my opinion, goes on a bit though LOL

Boots arrived, all looks good matey. -
Christ! They'll be in for a rough time over the next few weeks I'd reckon.

Just been looking at that, does it not strike you as a bit odd that it was roughly 5-15 metre seas all day long but a sudden spike of 40+ metres? Would it not be a much bigger general wave height maybe 25 metre plus with the occasional 'big one'? 02.30 = less than 10 metre seas, 04.30 = 12 metre seas, 06.30 = 15 metre seas, 10.30 = 15 metre seas but at 08.30 40+ metres? Doesn't seem right to me.

South coast we are getting on the marsh a about 6am for a 7.30 official sunrise, it is getting light well before then though.

Where?

I'm sure if deemed appropriate the mods will delete it surely?

That's the kiddie, as he says will do all you ask and in a degree of comfort.

Yes mate it is wrong. Good news is no water out of the valve. As said, turn the boiler off, depressurise the heating, easiest way is to start draining the rads but don't open any radiator air vents. When the hose stops then leave it open and pump up the pressure vessel as described earlier. Close the hose drain off. Refill until the gauge on the boiler reads 1, bleed the rads and refill again until you have air free rads and the pressure reads 1 again. Then you can turn the boiler back on.

Mate of mine shoots at a local clay ground and I mentioned that I quite fancied it, next thing I was on a taster! Week after that I did a safety lesson and then shot bi weekly from there. First proper shoot was 26/70, a few months later it averages about 40/70, been an uphill struggle though with a few disasters along the way although never below that initial 26!

Are there not enough of us or enough interest to warrant a sub forum? After all, if we have food and drink, motoring, craft& DIY so why not one of the shooting sub-disciplines?
