  1. When I lived at home my parents took 1/3 of my take home.....
  2. here is mine, I pay for 10Meg and get pretty much close ot it. in my house there are often two laptops watching iPlayer and the like. My desktop streams music most of the day And i work form home accessing the corporate network via a VPN I never have any performance issues with downloading, watching video and listening to music, or working from home. The ping test that we perfom is a simple handshake with the hosting ISP and is the maximum speed you can expect. On Virgin Media (cable) all lines are capable of 50meg but Virgin artificially slow/cap the performance to the speed you actually pay for.
  3. In Kent where I live I feel that I am quite lucky, the fireams ladies in the office are good as gold although their knowledge is limited they are always helpful and in my experience defer to the licensing manager or the FEO. The best form of attack is to do your research and anticipate what issues/questions may arise. I have had an FAC for 4 years mostly for target shooting, last December I had vermin added but was restricted to 22lr (I applied for 17hmr and 223 at the same time)as I had no "open land" experience although I have been using shotguns for 25+ years. In March I reapplied for the 17hmr and 223 and these were approved but on a closed license (as was the 22lr). A month ago I wrote a letter asking for my licence to be opened, I have several permissions to shoot over and had to keep sending forms off. In my letter I stated my case why I should be granted an open license. The FEO came round for "the talk". He explained what the criteria was for an open license, experience, number of permissions, rounds fired etc. His initial arguement against getting an open was that i had not fired enough rounds. I knew this might arise so I had my answer ready..... His says that he was happy to recommend opening the 22lr and 17hmr but not the 223. I suggested that he recommended all three and allowed the licensing manager to make the decision. He agreed to this and I was granted an open on all of them. My FEO is an experienced shooter, he can be a difficult man at times but he is fair and is open to reasoned arguememt. He showed me the checklist they have to fill out in Kent. Also he has to satify himself that I am a safe and experienced shot and unless you actually accompany someone how can you tell. My point is that if you do your research and construct your arguements in a reasonably way it makes life much easier. As has been stated in other responses you dont want to get on the wrond side of the FEO but the more you deal with them the more confident you become and the easier some of the tough discussion get. I am not defending the inept or "know it all" FEO's but do your reasarch, have the facts and challenge any mistakes or inaccurices in the FEO's knowledge but do it in a constructive and informed way. 4. Most of mine would end up in Faversham and Shepherd Neame
  5. Just checkec my e-mail, alas none from BASC.....looks like I didn't get the quad either......
  6. have a look at LEI mods, when I was looking for on for the HMR. I considfered one but they are very costly so settled for a fat SAK. Not sure they do one for .22lr though.....
  7. You didn't say what type of target shooting you were going to do. Either way, I would apply for 2 slots on my FAC if I were you, one for target and one for pest control. You don't need to buy both at once and it gives you the option of having two rifles if you want, adding an extra slot will cost money during the life of the certificate, applying for two at the begining will say you a "variation" fee..... Best of luck.....
  8. In my opinion fining someone £60.00 for speeding is no deterrent at all, my last parking fine was more than that…Also fines do not inconvenience anyone. I still see people using mobile phones whilst driving, it’s simply that the chance of being caught and fined is not high. Now suspend someone’s licence for 28 days and that would cut mobile phone use whilst driving or speeding dramatically. So instead of 3 points and £60.00 should the penalty be an immediate 28 day suspension. I would prefer to pay a £60.00 fine rather than lose my license for 28 days. If the key is road safety then the fines are worthless except to generate money. Licence suspension would make people think twice……
  9. That i'm afraid is a question for the legal eagles..........
  10. This might help regarding highways, it's straight from the Home Office Firearms Law Guidance to the Police (its the 2002 version) Highways Act 1980 22.17 Under section 161 of the Highways Act 1980, it is an offence for any person, without lawful authority or excuse, to discharge any firearm within fifty feet of the centre of any highway which comprises a carriageway, if in consequence, any user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered. For these purposes a carriageway means a highway (other than a cycle track) over which the public have a right of way for the passage of vehicles. The Highways Act does not apply in Scotland but Procurators Fiscal may use common law offences of “culpable and reckless conduct” and “reckless endangerment” in situations in which the 1980 Act would be contravened in England and Wales.
  11. Flying out myself Sunday for two weeks, I have been to several ranges. www.aphf.org (about 40 minutes Drive on way to Kennedy) I am planning on visiting the East Orange Shooting Sports but they dont allow lone shooters on the range so will have to take missus.....
  12. that mean no caliber bigger than a 223 can be used on that ground unless you have an open ticket of course I am working on that, letter typed and ready to go with another permission form that requires a land check. Once again, many thanks for the replies. Bradders.
  13. Thanks for the prompt replies, very much appreciated..... .22x makes perfect sense now...... Just a final question, I have a piece of land that is specifically cleared for "up to .223" so by it's implication that would include all .22x calibres as well.
  14. A quick question and I hope a simple (and quick) answer. I have some land(s) that is cleared by the firearms department for 223 and 22 centre fire. I asked what the difference was and the person I spoke with was not sure. I am guessing that 22 centre fire includes all 22 designated cals such as 223, 243 etc. Advise welcomed. Bradders And yes I know I spelt centre fire wrong in the topic......
  15. The whistling is not necessarily a problem, if power is down or fuel conmsumption is poor then thats the 1st sign of a turbo failure. I had one go on my X-Trail at 30k miles. Although it was the intercooler that failed (leaking oil and contaminated everything). I had a replacement set fitted intrecooler, turbo and sensors but the replacement turbo had a fan blade go after a week, that was noisy and fuel consumption very poor. 2nd new turbo and its all ok now.....just done 60k (30k on the new one which was an Essex Turbo Exchange) it does whistle when under load but (KYFC) appear all ok. It might be my imagination but mine seems noiser when it's warmer outside. Not so noisy in cold weather......
  16. Not had the 17hmr long. It would be good to see what it can do. I'm in..... Bradders.....

    netbook

Funny.....walked into that but the sentiment is still the same.....personal choice made on what you want to use it for..... but accept your point

    netbook

PC's are like firearms.....each has it's uses depending on what you intend to do with it. I have an MSI U100 netbook and it does everything I need it to do, runs office ok etc. It's never going to be a heavy number cruncher of gaming machine. My advice would be to decide what you want to use it for and then decide if it's suitable. The real thing to look out for is battery life and the screen resolutions, some screens are only capable of displaying 1024x600 on a 10" screen, some have an 11" or 11.5" screen that can display a full 1024x768 with no issues. Only other thing to consider is the use of an external DVD/CD drive. If you intend to watch DVD's or play CD's without ripping 1st then a netbook may not be ideal as you will have to carry the DVD/CD drive with you all the time. Mine is 3 years old so quite old but still does the job i want, all office, web browsing, e-mails, skype, edits photos (not tried video editng as I use my desktop for that). The desktop PC I have is the real workhorse and the netbook is convinient portable device......
  20. A few suggestions that you may consider trying. It might be that the PC is connecting to your network but not the internet. It is straight forward to check, simply look the network settings and "basic network information" this should show a map with the "PC - Network Router - Internet" if a red X will show any errors and at least identify where the issue is. I assume that you used the same SSID for the new router as you did the old one. If you did then manually delete the wireless configuration for that SSID on the offending PC and manually re-add it. This should refresh the configuration and allow you to connect. If you can post the results of the network map then at least we will know where about in the end to end connection the error is.
  21. My understanding, rightly or wrongly is the conditions on the certificate take preference, in Kent I have pest/vermin for 22lr, pest/vermin/fox for the 17hmr and .223. Therefore in my view my conditions contradict the legal standpoint of fox=vermin....That said i'm not willing to become a test case.
  22. This is usually hosted on sites that are prefixed with WN.COM....avoid clicking on site links, espescially if displayed in a google search..... if you do and you see it start to load pull the plug/power off as soon as you can, this will interrupt the download and if done quickly enoough save teh PC from being infected.....
  23. Hi, try looking at www.nsra.co.uk, there is a club finder tab under "home" I would post the link but the NSRA site is blocked by the companies security software....
