  1. Just had a look at Meopta and for similar spec to the Duralyt they're around the same sort of money.
  2. Tempting! With the lifetime warranty I don't think it's worth buying Zeiss new to be fair. Do they compare equally with light transmission though? It's the reason I would be buying a Zeiss. Thanks gents, Greg.
  3. Evening all. Looking at a 3-12x50 Duralyt on the basis of its light gathering ability. Is there a REALSITIC alternative for better money or similar money with better features ie parallax adjustment, target turrets. It will be used for foxing on the .223. Cheers gents, Greg.
  4. No problem storing it in another location as long as it is suitable i.e. another shotgun owner providing they have spare capacity to store it for you and are allowed to as it will need to be on their ticket. How about the farmer? Greg.
  5. I tried with an owl decoy and got zero interest. I think it needs to be something relevant to the area. A buzzard decoy could work.
  6. It looks good value. The key thing is having the ability to add your own sounds which you can do with that. The limiting factor is going to be the range of the speaker, the decent callers use a 15W horn type. Greg.
  7. At 200M that's fantastic.
  8. As above, you could put in a variation for multiple different calibres, all with mods and it would cost you £26. Useful stuff here: http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/firearms/certificate-forms-and-fees.cfm Greg.
  9. I wouldn't have thought you'd go wrong with Norma....
  10. Happy days bud! One less down like you say. You hit your target and followed it up swiftly. It's happened to all of us. Greg.
  11. How can you consider keeping a Hawke over a Zeiss??! It's a no brainer! Greg.
  12. That's different! It can't have been feeling too good.
  13. +1. Full choke all the way, if you hit it, it's generally going down. The difference between branded equivalents isn't going to be worth considering. Ask your dealer what he's got in the way of 5's or 6's (personally prefer 5's on corvids) and take it from there. Greg.
  14. Where's the 'Like' button.....
  15. First zero at 50 yds. This puts second zero at 230 yds and within an inch and a half out to 260 yds. It's roughly 1" high at 100 yds. This is using 40 grain ammo travelling at 3700 fps. Greg.
  16. Who said anything about pulling the trigger? If in doubt, hit things with it. That's the spirit.
  17. On the other hand if you had a 50 yard long barrel then it would be more accurate as you could poke the rabbits in the face with it.
  18. Perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps I'm not. My understanding is that in a bolt action rifle the pressure will cause the bullet to continue to accelerate beyond 16". Granted the 'bang' is over before this point but that doesn't mean the bullet instantly slows down. It continues to accelerate briefly. If a longer barrel is used it does help to stabilise the bullet when taking into account these pressure changes at a given point. When the process is looked at as a sequence of events it makes sense to have a longer barrel. That doesn't explain why they are available in a country that DOES allow moderators. Based on what theory?
  19. Good luck! Be sure to let us know how you get on. I've got a similar situation down here. Greg.
  20. The best I've found is to mimic a bit of a scrap going on or a crow in distress. I was doing this yesterday and had 20 odd over me at one point but it regularly brings in a handful. As they come over they'll start to act similarly which in turn brings more. You still need to be in the right place at the right time. If you're not near a flightline or it's dried up then they'll be thin on the ground. Greg.
  21. So why offer a 20" barrel then? There are arguments against your velocity theory. In a semi - maybe, but in a bolt action it's not the case. The bullet will continue to accelerate in a 20" barrel compared to a 16" barrel. The bullet will also stabilise better in a longer barrel. Greg.
  22. A longer barrel will (in theory) give greater accuracy due to barrel harmonics and increased velocity due to time of the bullet in the barrel (giving a flatter trajectory). Will it make much difference in a .22 and at .22 ranges? No. I'd opt got the shorter barrel for the times you go rabbit shooting. Greg.
