  1. Yep was there a couple of weeks ago and if it wasnt for having to work would have been going this week as well.
  2. What a revelation you can buy cheap illegal guns on the internet easily. What a great bit of investigative journalism that was. Didnt much see the point of the program all it did was tell people how to find illegal guns for sale. Very responsible i must say.
  3. What i was trying to get across was yes they were tipped off they were members of ukip but how can the social workers know what bits of ukip policy they believe and the bits they disagree with as not every member of a political party agrees with all the policies of the party they are in. Or are the social work suddenly able to read minds.
  4. How do the social workers know what the parents views are. Just because you are a member of a political party doesn't mean that you agree with all the policies that they have as these are decided by debates and votes during their confrences. You just have to take any of the 3 so called main parties and not every MP of those parties agrees with everything their party does if they did you would never have rebel MP's voting against their party. I don't know about any other members on here but when I have to vote I look at what all the parties have to offer see what is best for my circumstances at that time and vote accordingly. I don't always agree with everything the party I vote for stands but look at what is best overall i.e I know people who voted for the SNP at the last Scottish elections but they don't all believe independence is a good idea just that overall they are better with them in power than any of the others.

    tv licence

Yes I believe you do. Unless they have changed it you used the TV licence for your house to use another TV at another location as long as you are not using the TV in the house at the time i.e in your caravan, truck, boat, car. This also applied to students but when would you get a student not using their TV as their parents were using theirs at home or vise versa. Basically if you have a TV and are using it you need a license irrespective of where it is. The problem is the system is totally out of date and works on the principle that you have a TV in your house and possibly one that you use in a caravan etc. It takes no notice of modern life and things such as Netflix, TV on your mobile/computer via wifi at all.
  6. As I posted yesterday I was taking a pal from work out clay pigeon shooting today and it's turned in to a new shooter (I think). Took him onto the skeet layout and started with a few easy ones and after less than 10 shots his reply was "This is addictive I could get into this". After a couple of boxes on the Skeet range it had turned into "We have to do this at least once a month" so we did a couple of boxes on the compact Sporting layout and by the time he was leaving he was already filling out the form to apply for a cert.
  7. Worrying you thought that . I meant the two shotguns we would be using. Anyway the wife is very good a cleaning the other gun.
  8. Mates pay for the clays used at the price i pay which is cheaper as i am a member at the ground and i supply the gun and carts. I jokingly mentioned about cleaning the guns afterwards and he said no probs would love to.
  9. One of the guys on the shift at work has been asking me about going clay pigeon shooting for a couple of months now so we finally managed to get a day when we are both free and I'm taking him out tommorrow. He has shot before as he was in the ATC and shot full bore target rifles so he knows all about safety and how to handle guns. Might get another cert holder out of this as he loved shooting in the ATC if he can just convince his girlfriend to allow him to get a gun.
  10. Did like the comments that police officers have to be whiter than white and should either be sacked or not allowed to join in the first place if they have any previous convictions. Find it a tad hypocritical when there are several threads on here about getting a SGC or FAC when you have previous convictions and what you should do to get one if you do. Should SGC and FAC holders not also be whiter than white as you are deamed to be trustworthy enough to hold one so should they not be allowed to have a SGC or FAC if they have any previous convictions. I didn't like what I saw on the video but as said before I wasn't there and if full possession of all the facts so I don't know the full story but from what I did see it was not how I would have done it. It does look like he went OTT and I did wonder what the other officers were doing. When we get someone violent in the custody everyone mucks in to get the person into a cell with hopefully no injuries to them or the officers. Just to put a spanner in the works up here in Scotland we were all Police FORCES until we became a Police SERVICE (more customer focused apparently what ever that means).
  11. No evidence at all as all the fuel in an area comes from the same refinery irrespective of who sells it. Some companies put some additives in but most dont so all the fuel in an area is the same. My dad worked for Bp and refined the fuel so he should know.
  12. I have a rodeo and its well built reliable and has never got stuck yet in deep snow or mud it even shrugged off hitting a peacock at 65mph on the motorway. Tows more weight than the others which we need and is as comfortable as a pick up will get. I love mine. Only downside its an auto as it is adapted for my wifes disability so a bit thirstier than normal but didnt buy it for its fuel economy.
  13. Biggest problem is the way it was presented by the Government as they never put forward a well structured argument for or against the cull. Instead it was mixed up, muddled and gave every chance for people against the cull to sway public opinion and just dismiss any scientific evidence as rubbish. I must admit that looking at what was presented I cannot see any good arguments for or against it. If it was presented in a better manner and not the cack handed way the government has done as it has with just about every other thing thay have proposed or done we may have had a better debate and got better evidence convincing people that the cull was needed to properly assess the results. As it stands it's just another half baked cock up by the government.
  14. Was in Homebase today getting some stuff and I saw that its back to that time of year when fireworks are on sale. As the title suggests I hate the things. I have no problem with the organised fireworks displays where people who know what they are doing set it up and in fact really enjoy them. I just don't agree with them being sold in the shops to any halfwit that wants them. Look at the rules regarding buying shooting supplies but anyone can go into a shop and buy as many fireworks, which are basically an explosive although a small one, as they want and walk out with them. I remember when I was small we used to have a bonfire in the field and invite all the neighbours round for a bit of a party and it was a good way of getting rid of all the rubbish that accumulated over the year on our and neighbouring small holdings. Every one brought a few fireworks and we set them off but they were tiny a roman candle was the size of a C cell battery and a rocket was like a AA battery on a stick and they lasted about 30 seconds. Now a roman candle is at least 10 times the size and a rocket is like a baked bean tin on a stick. There is also the problems with the animals we and the neighbours have. A nice neighbour (read halfwit) decided last year to have a fireworks night and let off piles of the things in the field next to us where our horse is. Result one petrified horse that was doing a wall of death run around the field and sheep, that had just been put in the field next door, running every way possible into fences and a burn that runs through it. A little knock on the door whould have helped and we would have brought the horse in and the neighbour would have kept the sheep out the field for a couple of extra days. I think we should ban the things from general sale and only allow them to be sold to people that have got a licence and shown that they can be trusted with them with heavy penalties if they don't comply. The current laws are a joke as most of the fireworks especially in the towns where I am part of the local constabulary end up in the hands of scumbags who cause nothing but mayhem with them and put them through the letterboxes of elderly residents for a so called laugh. Rant over for this year but will no doubt resurface again in a years time.
  15. The problem is that the arguments for either side are full of emotion, nationalism from both sides and statistics fixed to prove whatever side of the argument they are on. What we need is some honesty but I woudn't expect that from any of the politicians soon.
  16. Argument hasn't been either way for me just now there is just to much emotion and not enough facts but hopefully the arguments will develop over the coming months. I'm as patriotic as the next Scot and would love to be an independent country BUT not just for the sake of it there must be a good sound argument for it. People don't seem to understand the politics of Scotland especially not the London based parties as just because the SNP were voted in doesn't mean that everyone that voted for them automatically agrees with being independent or all their policies they voted them in as they were the ones doing the best job for that person at that time. Should be an interesting debate and hopefully people will consider the evidence and make an informed decision as to what is best for the country but I'm not counting on it.
  17. Just spent a few days away at a lovely little place just outside Dundee http://www.thehideawayexperience.co.uk/. No kids (they are not allowed), no stress and a couple of days of doing nothing but watching the world go by from the hot tub with a drink in your hand looking over fields. Been here a couple of times and the couple that own the farm the lodges are on are the nicest people you could meet and on arrival you get a basket of goodies and some proper home baked bread and a bottle of wine in the fridge. Then its all over and back to work and it is like you have never been away from it. Would be interesting if you could shoot on the farm (don't think it would be appreciated with the whole idea for people to relax an unwind in peace and quiet) as I sat in the hot tub watching about 60-70 pigeons, about a dozen crowns and 16 pheasants in the field just outside the lodge but it was nice to watch them flying around as you relaxed. However coming home was interesting as it was bang in the middle of the heavy rains that hit Fife and Tayside and had to drive down a river of water that was the road when we arrived as water was pouring off the hills behind us.

    Teetotal.

Not tea total but hardly drink at all. Maybe the odd glass of wine with dinner or bottle of cider but they can sit in the house for months without being opened. Also staying in the country I have to drive to go anywhere so can't drink when i'm out and really can't be bothered with the hassle of getting alift or the expense of a taxi.

    Fat/Unfit police

Not only have they got an incentive to run they usually have a head start, all be it a small one, it is still a head start and not only is all the gear heavy the stab proof vest that has to be a fairly tight fit restricts your breathing a bit which doesn't help. You would also have to determine what kind of fitness you want as we have an inspector that can't run very fast or far but he is into body building and is huge with not an once of fat on him and could probably bend a car in half. Wouldn't like to say that he was unfit or unable to do the job as he couldn't catch someone running off. Not defending the lard A**** but we are also members of a bigger gang than the crims and generally there is more than one cop in the chase and most probably a dog as well so we can head him off at the pass so to speak as local knowledge plays a big part in knowing where they will run or end up if they go a certain way.
  20. Got a good deal on a used gun cabinet on the bay but I think it could do with a bit of a tart up. It has been painted but it is coming off in places and looks a bit tired. My problem is the cabinet is made of Stainless Steel and I have been told it is a complete nightmare to get paint to stick to it. Any suggestions on what to use to get a good finish on it. I did tell the wife it was for storing all the nasty stuff in the shed (Weedkillers, rat poison etc.) as the wee man and his pals like to rake about the sheds when they are outside. It will be to start with but I think she may be on to my cunning plan that its really for when I apply for my FAC at the begining of next year when I get my rifle club membership as the other cabinet is full of shotguns.

    Mansion tax

What about the people that bought their house a long time ago when the area was not fashionable but now they cost a fortune as prices have gone through the roof. My parents are a prime example when they bought their house (which is in the country) a long time ago you just about couldn't give away the houses they were that cheap. My father worked hard and had a good job but was never what you would call rich but now their house is worth an awfull lot more than they paid for it (probably about 30 odd times more) because it suddenly became trendy and fashionable to move from the town out to the country to have the idealised country lifestyle. You know, the one as far removed from country life as you can get as they seem to forget most of the country side is used to produce food and contains Tractors, slurry being spread and the constant battle over vermin and pests (of course you never need to shoot anything as all of nature is in perfect balance). Why should they be penalised with paying more tax as most of the people in these house are not rich and have stayed there for 30, 40 or more years.

    im worried

Just need to start one on How to Build a Patio.
  23. Had it yesterday but they were cutting the fields next to me and the wind was blowing huge amounts of dust towards the house. Was like being in a dust storm sometimes.
  24. Watch what you do as where there are badgers there is almost always people keeping an eye on them. They know the laws around badger protection inside out and phone the police at the smallest hint the law has been broken. Used to work at a station where there was a badger set near to where they were building houses and the badger watchers were on the phone nearly every day about something.
  25. Not had the wood burner on yet but had the heating on for the odd hour in the morning just to take the chill off the house. We don't have gas in the house but there is a gas pipeline that runs past about 800yrds away but it is about 18" in diameter, under high pressure, and comes straight from the north sea to the nearby gas plant. Imagine that would make and intresting size flame on the fire.
