  1. Lovely looking animal. congratulations!
  2. She's a terror for it and just sits and watches us in the hope we'll open the machine! LOL!
  3. We see a lot of local (Portuguese) dried dog food out here and some is as less than E10 per 20 kg (I've no idea what UK costs are) but the problem with these is I can't read what's in 'em so I buy Wagg puppy food online and if I remember correctly, that's about UKP20 per 20 kg with free delivery to Portugal.
  4. She's growing like a weed now, eating like a horse & we can't turn our backs on her for a second.
  5. At what sort of age does a PP usually start it's training?
  6. You need to be a bit careful about oil nowadays because in recent years the EUSSR has made the oil companies remove some of the additives (especially zinc) and cheaper oils will have even less additives. The real answer is to research individual oils and manufacturers and go for a good oil and/or put in a bottle of additive to replace what's been taken out. . I personally reckon that cheap oil is false economy.
  7. She's just 3 months old and an absolute darling of a dog. - Hope to get a PP bitch in a few months so they'll play and work together. BRNDL Mate, Macy is a really good looking Lab but what's that white stuff all over the ground? LOL
  8. It might take the older dog a while to get used to it but it's not usually a problem at all..... Give it 6 - 12 months and they'll almost certainly be the best of friends. Things sometimes get a bit more complicated if you also have cats in the house but even then, the cats will usually just put the puppy in it's place a time or two and then they at least tolerate each other. FWIW, we have 2 very spoilt cats and I introduced a Lab into the household a few weeks ago and it's now going fine and I'll be introducing a Portuguese Pointer into the house in a few months time and don't expect any major problems at all.
  9. I'm just bloody glad to see a PP on here and I thank HB for posting it.......... can't wait to get mine!
  10. I think I'll have my puppy by then......... and am in the central zone near Figueiro Dos Vinhos and only a couple of hours from Lisboa so maybe we can get together for a beer or a coffee or something?
  11. Highbird, I've only met him once but he's also the friend of a Portuguese friend (who is a vet) that I hunt with and my hunting friend says these particular PPs are the best in the country and he wants me to have the best. Are you in the UK or in Portugal? I'll PM you right now.
  12. Wonderful for me to see a PP because I'm lining up to get one from the President of the PP Club here in Portugal when he next breeds his bitch.
  13. My vet gave me worming tablets that look like training treats and she took it without any worries at all........ but that's Labs for you huh! I've also gotta say Lola is probably the easiest dog I've ever had. She messed in the house twice on the first day but since then she just takes herself outside to do it. Have to say, my lifestyle has changed now so there's pretty much always someone at home and the door to the garden is always open so she can get out of the house any time she likes.
  14. He's about the same age as my chocolate Lab bitch and I'll bet gets up to the same sort of nonsense....... My Lola just got me out of bed at 0500 because she needed to go outside and she woke me by chewing on my toes! LOL! Still, the good news is she asked. Mine sits and sometimes stays and has learnt to come to the whistle and since she keeps bringing me every twig she picks up, we now take a puppy dummy to the field a couple of times a day. I give her 2 or 3 short (5-10 yards) retrieves and that's enough to to get the exploding fireworks out of her system......... and like your Jed, is eating me out of house and home! I went without dogs for about 15 years when I lived in Africa because I had to travel so much and it's simply a joy to have a dog back in my life again!
  15. Lola...... is the pretty one on the left. %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d23/kuduland/Lolasfirstday22May009_zps63df786c.jpg
  16. Just concrete over the lawn and problem solved! LOL!
  17. FWIW, when I lived in Africa, the bad guys would spray guard dogs in the face/eyes with deep heat back pain spray and it really ******** the dogs up big time....... it might not be a pleasant idea but personally I'd rather have the attacking dog ******** up than my own one........ and of course a small can of such product fits neatly into the pocket and isn't illegal. I'm sorry to hear your dog got stuffed up and hope you get your money back but I rather doubt he'll pay up in full and on time. Personally, I'd have reported such an attack straight away because it just might be someone's kid next time but hey, it's your decision.
  18. I can understand the logic to a degree & certainly don't profess to be an expert but I reckon an awful lot must depend on breed & even individual animal because of things like hip score, diet & even terrain etc...... I wouldn't dismiss the idea completely so perhaps using it as a guideline rather than a strict rule might be the best idea.
  19. Good looking dog but those pics have got me worried....... my lab looks to be almost the same size, has huge feet and she's not yet 3 months old!
  20. I can understand not letting them jump down from the back of a car etc until they're adult and I can understand not tearing the arze out of exercising any young dog but have to say, I take the idea of 5 mins of exercise per month of age with a pinch of salt. Using the example raised, that would mean that a working breed that has been bred for hundreds of years to earn it's keep by running up and down mountains in pursuit of hysterical sheep could only be expected to work for 2 hours a day when it's 2 years old. I've seen plenty of working sheepdogs and owners in my life but I've never seen a single one that sticks to that rule.
  21. How about a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee? - You get a lot of car for the money.
  22. You don't say what car/engine you have but probably need to be aware that EUSSR regulations in recent years have meant a lot of additives have been removed now...... particularly (IIRC) zinc so if it's an older car or a high performance engine you might like to consider putting in separate additives as well.
  23. I've said before that insurance is much cheaper here in Portugal than it is in the UK but I'll never understand insurance companies. I'm just about to renew the policy on my classic Jeep which has a 5.9 litre V8 and is valued at between E25K - 30K and the premium has actually dropped to just E37 per year. At the same time, I've just bought a new Chinese copy of the old Honda Dax that has a tiny 125 cc engine and valued at E1600 and the first quote was for E165 and a bit of searching got it down to E77 but even at that price how can a cheap little mini motorbike cost twice as much to insure as a 5.9 litre classic Jeep does?
  24. I could easily be wrong but believe they were & have a vague idea Kenneth Moore rode one when he was playing Douglas Bader in the film Reach For The Sky. IIRC, he fell off it in the opening sequence & a little later had himself & about 3 others on it when he got pulled up by Plod. Oh & they were a horizontally opposed twin
