  1. Big thanks to Armsid for taking me out and putting me right under the birds in Leicestershire. Unfortunately my shooting was patchy but still managed to bag 14 in a couple of hours. Shot over drilled wheat. Rotary decoy machine was putting more off than it was attracting in so turned it off and they committed better. Great afternoon in good company and all thanks to meeting through PW. Hope to return the favour with some lamping soon.

Bettinsoli 12G o/u 30" m/c in good nick. Would like £400 but would take £350 for the right person to get them started in the sport! PM if interest.
  3. Having a punt with the decoys on some fresh ground care of a very kind invitation from Fudge40 and armsid
  4. Due to work commitments and a lack of pigeons on my own permissions I am after some guided pigeons shooting around Melton Mowbray (40 mile radius). I have all the gear, guns and ammo I just need to get underneath the blighters! Happy to pay going rate for the right opportunity. Gary
  5. this morning at about 7.30 I reccyd some spring rape i have permission on (leicestershire). pockets of birds moving about particularly on the weak patches whereas there were no birds at all last week. Going to try tomorrow very early i.e. 6am set up and see what happens. Will report back.
  6. Honestly the website says there is a gunmakers row and 1 bloody stand had a very limited selection of guns, all brand new. I walked around twice thinking I had missed a row.
  7. Just got back from Kelmarsh and in summary it's ok for a day out of the house and if you want to buy clothes or camo. Hopeless for guns and pretty bad for other gear. If you get the chance to get out shooting instead, do that.
  8. For what it's worth I just use a stealth net in front as it gives such brilliant visibility over the decoy pattern and don't have a problem. However to caveat that I use a standard net behind me to break my silhouette and full camo inside and make sure I keep still when a bird approaches. Stealth nets are like most things, use them correctly and they work but wrongly and it's useless.
  9. I would definitely get a spare then you should be good to go for the whole day. Can't expect too much from one 7ah batt, I would have said 3-4 hours is reasonable.
  10. Well I'm going anyway despite the reports on here!
  11. Cheap alternative - one of those £5 camping chairs. Lightweight and they come in a bag with strap so you can carry on the shoulder. Not great for larger gents but I'm 6 foot average build and it does the job.
  12. Right I'm gonna have a go tomorrow with the deecs. Clear some of the snow away and sit myself under a known flight line and see what happens. I will report back.
  13. Good shout fudge40. Bloody weather is keeping me out of the field so happy to grab a beer sometime.
  14. Some warm dry weather will turn things around very quickly and the crops (that have been drilled) will recover but this needs to happen in the next few weeks. However, crops that are not yet in may be forgotten this year and farmers will cut their losses. One factors is that high rents that farmers have signed up to in recent years drive the need to recoup some money from the land which makes leaving it fallow not a realistic option for some so even poor crops help to cover the overheads. But I suspect the message from all of this is that come harvest any good crops this year will be treasured and our services as pigeon shooters valued in protecting these. Hopefully!
  15. What a great old bit of footage. I think I may start pronouncing decoys as Archie does!
  16. They will soon be back on the fields when it thaws. Getting warmer by the end of the week.
  17. Cheers Dan. Going to see if b and q do one and a spare battery tonight. Glad to see you took the plunge with the gear! Gaz
  18. Just took delivery of a new a1 decoys rotary with 7ah battery included. Any one help me out with a link to an inexpensive charger? Think will get a spare battery as 7ah ain't going to last too long. Thanks guys
  19. Pleased to report a successful meet was had and a few beers consumed by the 'Melton Mowbray Branch' last week. Culminated in a very enjoyable day at the shooting ground last Saturday. Any other Meltoners out there feel free to post as I am sure we will be at the Horseshoes in Asfordby sometime again soon!
