  1. I've had a mk2 r10 for maybe 2 yrs give or take, it was returned under warranty in the first week with a faulty pressure gauge returned the following week. Apart from that it's been fine . It was pellet fussy when new and only shot bisley magnums really well but now shoots several brands well. I shot 46 wood pigeons one afternoon a couple of weeks back coming into a sitty tree with it , having taken it in preference to my fac rapid if the ranges are going to be under 35/40yds I'm using it more and more.
  2. Farmers often times plant a cover crop like barley or wheat when drilling onions or sugar beet to stop the seeds from getting blown away , then spray the cereal off when the onions or whatever have started growing. So yes it's worth keeping a eye on

    Tx200

Tx 's aren't known to be snappy so unless there's something wrong with yours it's not the rifle. Piston/Spring guns need good technique and consistent hold to get the best from them . I use one all the time for practicing , if you can shoot one to reasonable standard shooting a pcp through to a centre fire or even a bow will be much easier. I would give yourself some more time with the tx you might find it will take a few weeks for things to improve. Evo's right in a modern multi shot pcp will take some beating if all you want is a easy to shoot rifle
  4. Going off on a complete tangent does anyone know what the scope mounted camera that the vermin hunter guys use
  5. I've never known pigeons dig are they having a dust bath ? Blackbirds can make a right mess in a garden
  6. I think you've every chance of shooting pigeons on the young beet. Last year I was talking to a farmer from the mildenhall area and he has had problems with pigeons on the beet this time of year .
  7. Do you mean birds feeding on young sugar beet leaves? If so yes it's quite normal this time of year especially if it's hot and dry .The year before last I shot several pigeon on beet , I haven't seen any amount this year
  8. One Christmas my mum invited a coloured family from down the road for Christmas dinner, my mum turned the heating on full blast and bought enough fruit in to stuff a elephant and to cap it all insisted on calling the father Ray because she didn't like his real name that was Omar . We had to eat dinner with most of Windows in the house open , despite all this she still gets a Christmas card from them every year
  9. Yes know what you mean, there's some rum looking groups there . Like the other guys have said try some heavier pellets ,I would have thought with the right pellet you should get pound coin size groups at 50/60 yds that's what a well set fac rapid would do
  10. Hamster I'm really surprised that the fx doesn't shoot better than that at such close range , I watch teds holdover and I can't remember a fx that doesn't drive tacks. The fx impact is the first air rifle that I would consider selling one of my rapids for , I think I will leave it while until a few more people have them

    .177 fac

i think for head shooting you would be fine , I got on well with a 177 fac for that it was body shots on pigeons/crows that I struggled compared to .20/.22 I even tried dai sung 15 grain and they were no better . I tried one and it wasn't for me but if you just shooting rabbits give it a go

    .177 fac

I think Kent is right in saying that 177 you have the problem of going trans sonic ,my rapid was unregulated and had quite a power curve . if I ran it to hot it would shoot good groups at the beginning and end of the charge but often times mid charge shoot all over the place.

    .177 fac

it was Ben Taylor's enthusiasm for the .20 that made me buy one 20+ years ago , I still have the same rifle albeit regulated now and on its third barrel. It was Hobson's choice with pellets in that only premiers shot well at 900 fps + but they are still my pellet of choice

    .177 fac

I had a fac rapid in .177 running at between 20-25 ft ibs and to be honest it wasn't a patch on a .20 ( 27 ft ibs) or .22 (30 ft ibs) it did shoot very flat but didn't seem to kill as well as the larger calibers . Years back I had a hw80 shooting h&n silhouettes at 14ft ibs and for me that worked well , I personally wouldn't get a fac .177 there's better options
  15. Tightchoke I'm afraid it's not that unusual behaviour from some shooters , I've had people set up deliberately on the flight line more than once. Another time I was having a good morning on pea drilling when two guys came over and asked if I had permission and they were going to shoot the field whether I liked it or not , it backfired on them because I had maybe 70/80 birds out and they ended up watching birds decoying to me ,if only that happened more often , most times I just pack up with the day ruined. There's some real tool bags out there , it's not exclusive to shooting there's some dossies go fishing too
  16. I've been doing some more testing. Jsbs lubed or even weighed and batched showed no real improvement ,so I ordered some more pellets. Super fields that si pittaway used were OK , barracuda match were truly awful . On a whim I had ordered some bisley magnums having tried them before when they had shot groups averaging a inch, the new tin of pellets shot superbly averaging out at 5/8 over twenty groups at 50 yds no fliers as yet . For a heavy pellet they shoot surprisingly flat out to 40 yds . Its amazing how the mind works 7/8 groups I think I would of ended up talking myself in to trading it in
  17. Just watched the si pittaway video , I haven't shot groups sub 30 yds much but at 35 yds I'm getting 1/4 groups that's why I asked about what was reasonable at 50 yds
  18. Over a thirty shots mid charge the max variation is 9 fps , barrels been cleaned. It's been shot off a bipod and rear bag. I don't discount fliers with a centre fire , rim fire or fac air so they are included with 12ftb , if you shoot a competiton and live game you can't discount them . I'm going to wash lube and if I'm really motivated weigh a batch of pellets to see if that improves things . Thanks everyone for the advice
  19. Figgy I've tried most every pellet commonly available! It depends on who you talk too but I'm either a little or a lot ocd , the rifle has shot lots of good groups but if you average them out I'm at 7/8 inch. I talk to a lot of people about their rifles and invariably if groups sizes are mentioned they quote the best group rather than averaging it over several groups
  20. I've been doing a lot of pellet testing of late and with jsb 4.53 groups are averaging 7/8 inch (5 shot) I think from what you guys are saying I'm perhaps being unrealistic expecting much better. I keep comparing it to my fac rapid that averages 1/2 inch at 50 , thanks for the replies
  21. Hi guys what would you say is a realistic average group size at 50yds for a bsa r10 .177 ?
  22. Machinery is getting better there's no doubt about that but around here farmers are taking on more and more land that they end up drilling in less than ideal conditions to get around . The last two springs I've seen some of the worst seed beds I've ever seen and that's with state of the art machinery , heavy wet clay and contract/share farming you have half a chance of enough spilt seed for a shoot
  23. On my own 374 on winter wheat drilling , I've had four bags over 400 shooting with friend they were on chickweed and Spring rape. The ones I'm most proud of were 142 and 140 decoying with my fac air rifle they were on pea drilling and rape stubble . The one on rape stubble I took a strimmer and cut the stubble down to ground level to be able to see the birds when they had landed , it made the farmer laugh when he caught me doing that
  24. Sorry too hear what's happened but it's not the end of the world . A semi auto is the obvious choice, I borrowed a extrema with kick off ,it was noticeably tamer than my 391. A 20/28 or 410 are all fine over decoys
  25. A 400 series carbine won't hold enough air for fac
