  2. I'm in Essex and you can either join Harlow Town Rifle Club http://www.htrpc.co.uk and shoot at Dartford or join the NRA and shoot at Bisley but you do need to be a full member of the club before you will be granted your FAC. You can keep your section 1 PSG in the same cabinet but no-one else can have access, not even any family members that live there, even if they have a SGC. Depends what type of practical shooting you want to do as to whether you need to apply for slug or not. Target shotgun uses slug a lot, practical or 3-gun much less generally. If you're going down the S1 route, i would apply for slug anyway in case you want to do it in the future. If you don't put it on the application they will charge you later for a variation... Don't forget that with a SGC you can buy bird or buckshot anyway which is what you mostly use. If you want a rifle as well, then again put it on the application. But as been said before find a club first and then apply.
  3. Most likely going to be a 'normal' variation (not 1 for 1) so you're going to have to pay for it as a revolver isn't really a similar calibre Variation (not like for like) – applicable only to firearm certificates £20 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/circular-0072015-the-firearms-variation-of-fees-order-2015/the-firearms-variation-of-fees-order-2015
  4. yep - great fun. I've put a Vortex red dot on the top of mine just because i can't aim well on iron sights.
  5. Have both of these gone - I'll take one if there is one left...
  6. Visit for my first renewal - nothing since!
  7. From the Firearms Act (1997): 16.—(l) The Secretary of State shall, in accordance with a scheme made by him, make payments in respect of firearms and ammunition surrendered at designated police stations in accordance with the arrangements made by him under section 15 above. Which in my interpretation says - 'The Secretary of State will decide how much compensation will be paid, if any.' Good luck getting any money out of the Government on that one.
  8. I'm pretty sure that the government will decide if they're going to pay compensation and what that will be, when they decide to re-categorise anything. Just because they did it 20 years ago doesn't mean that they will do it again.
  9. We go to a IPSC club in the Netherlands that gives us the weekend shooting Glocks. Great fun!
  10. I ordered some electronic plugs from Mercury in Feb this year and was told that they would be ready in April. After much chasing I finally got a refund in July as they still weren't ready and the design was being improved. They seem like a nice bunch but I wouldn't trust them again.
  11. I've got Vortex 10x42. Love them.
  12. I've got an M3000 and it works really well for me - has cycled everything from 28 - 36g carts and have never had a jam. It is a Turkish gun using the same inertia system as the Benelli so doesn't need as much attention as a gas operated shotgun. At a third the price of an M2 I'm happy.
  13. Hmmmm, cleaning... I think I've heard about that. Can't think that it'll catch on though.
  14. Yes, providing certain criteria are met: The gun must have been manufactured (or imported) like that - my understanding is that if you just chop off half the barrel before fitting the mod then the firearm becomes section 5 and there's no way back to section 2 from there. Saying that it's generally going to be difficult to prove one way or the other how it got like that so you're generally going to be okay if it meets the OAL requirements.
  15. Never leave anything valuable in the luggage rack above you - too easy to steal. I know so many people that have lost bags that way. Same goes for hand luggage on planes too. https://youtu.be/JPLbTwRpW50
  16. Railway byelaws: Potentially dangerous items Except with written permission from an Operator or an authorised person, no person shall bring with him or allow to remain on the railway any item which, in the opinion of an authorised person, may threaten, annoy, soil or damage any person or any property. If any person in charge of an item contrary to Byelaw 2(1) is asked by an authorised person to remove it and fails to do so immediately, it may be removed by or under the direction of an authorised person. I'm guessing that the interpretation of this isn't going to be up to you... My suggestion, be very discreet about and you'll be okay.
  17. Give Andy a call: http://www.customguns.co.uk/services-rifle/4586799148
  18. You 'sell' the gun to yourself to take it off your SGC and then you enter it on to your FAC (providing that you have got the relevant authority to acquire it). From then on that shotgun becomes section 1 (even though at that point it still meets the section 2 criteria). Once it's on your FAC you can do what you want with the magazine tube and convert it from a 2+1 to whatever you like. The gun isn't being scrapped as it's still very active, it's just changing the status. So you inform your FEO that you have sold the sec 2 and acquired a sec 1 with the same serial no. so everything is visible. If you want to double check then give your FEO a call - I know several people in my club that have done the conversion themselves with no problem but there are some people who are insistent that it goes to a RFD who will charge you transfer fees both ways for effectively doing nothing.
  19. I've shot R/H semi autos for years left handed - wear eye protection to keep the dirt & gas from getting in your eyes - get used to the fact that every now and again you'll get a jet of flame out of the ejection port too; not dangerous but can give you a bit of a shock when it happens!
  20. If your shotgun has got a magazine that holds more than two cartridges then it can't be held on a SGC and must go on a FAC instead. Sounds like this is the case for the OP. However if you have got a section 1 shotgun already you can do what you like with the magazine, so you could add an extension tube onto a 5 shot and turn it into a 10 shot if you want without having to tell anyone. If you are turning your sec 2 into a sec 1 firearm there is nothing that says that this conversion must be carried out by an RFD or gunsmith. Providing that you do the paperwork properly, and inform your FEO you can do it yourself (assuming that you are capable of doing it!). It's going to need to be added onto your FAC, then 'sold' from your SGC and you'll need to inform them about both of these to make sure that there is traceability. Just remember that converting a sec 1 back to a sec 2 isn't just a case of removing the tube - that will need to go to a RFD (and maybe to a proof house) to confirm that it isn't sec 1 any more and really isn't worth it.
