a knighthood at the very least 👍👍

Not often the whole country would get behind someone being knighted.

Imagine how much it would mean to a veteran his age, brings a lump to your throat.

If, and there are ifs, they are clear of the virus via our tests in the UK, they are isolated on farms, are conscious that they should not be meeting others

The thing is they need to shop for food?

hello, maybe the pickers from Romania are desperate to, have you ever been to the country ?

Always used to get fruit pickers coming to Arbroath,  earning more picking fruit than their normal job at home.

Can we go back to that? Not unless people change their minds on what work means to them and are poor enough or desperate enough to do this essential work

People are happy in some cases to sit at home and have things paid for,  no chance will they go and pick fruit working all day.

On a funny note, my little lad asked for something last week, possibly a biscuit, I said you can have one once you have spotted a plane. He soon twigged there weren't any around,  and it was hours later when we spotted one, just one all day.

  3. I've never expected the Nightingale hospitals to be needed, I see them as planning for the worst case scenario,  if the brown hits the fan. If they hadn't been built and were needed then questions would be asked why not.

No one should die of poverty in this country in this day and age,  things might well be a lot tighter though for a few years for many.

People were still driving to the Lakes according to the police at the weekend,  a thousand parties broken up over Easter weekend.

This is why I feel a serious lockdown is needed, let people work if it's safe, but unnecessary travel,  social distancing not being followed needs clamping down on,  enough being nice and explaining to people why they need to stay apart, anyone who hasn't heard the message must have been on the moon.

A serious two or three weeks on lockdown should hopefully help the NHS get on top of things, it won't be popular but its probably necessary.

I’m suggesting with three more weeks of the current restrictions we should see the flattening and dipping trend across the country.

I’ve been looking at that site for weeks but the numbers are not always comparable.

After another 3 weeks something could be possible, but while people flout the lockdown I think it could drag on.

And they are saying that the deaths in care homes haven't been included so the numbers will jump up again when they are added.

We are always 2 weeks away from the peak it seems.

Just seen today a pair of nuthatches taking material into our nest box in the garden. Regularly see them on the peanut feeders and bird table but never before in the nest box !

That is a result,  we have them on the feeders in the garden, one of my favourite birds.

In the health authority area I live in new infections have averaged ~25 for the last four consecutive days after a peak six days ago at nearly three times that figure, that's with a population just over 250k

Unfortunately the numbers aren't coming down yet, I cant see how they could say London for instance is relaxing the lockdown but the rest of the country stays the same.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

Take a look and compare with Spain and France, the loose lockdown they started with probably means another 3 weeks of this, same as Northern Ireland said today.

tip for those with nest boxes without any residents. The hole size and box size/depth is all important 😉 Plenty of advice if you do an internet search 👍

Wouldn't have thought of that, cheers

Thia man deserves to be honoured by the country for simply rallying so much support for his much loved and respected NHS.  It would be amazing if Prince William could find a 2 metre sword and Knight him on his 100th birthday.

Don't wait, just turn up tomorrow and do it, 8.5 million now the news is saying,  simply wow.

Agreed. It's time to start dialogue on the details of the exit strategy and how things will slowly start to re-open - I don't understand why anyone would seriously be advocating a more stringent lockdown - would be interested to see the data supporting that.

The new cases and deaths haven't really come down yet, if people start going back to normal too soon we risk all these weeks being wasted.

Yes good plan, "a full proper lock down for 2 weeks" should just about finish most businesses off 👌

If you were going to and from work, not using public transport and so minimising your contact with other people I don't see a problem,  Manchester police apparently broke up over a thousand parties over Easter weekend!!

So how many people are not following the social distancing guidelines? Multiple this across the country and we need a proper lockdown.

We've done well for three weeks a couple more isn't going to hurt anymore.

Or we could just go back to normal and start all over again in a month.

  12. Me and my daughter made one last year? We've got blue tits going in for the first time this year, she's made up.

Finish the green house this weekend then make some more I think.

Pretty sure this has been changed or altered already,,my local hospital has no charges at the minute,,in there own carpark or is he referring to outside/private carparks streets etc?

They said charges were supposed to be waived during this crisis but people are still being fined, and will still be charged afterwards.

My wife pays £3-40 a day.

Adds up over the year, and I'm sure others are charged a lot more.

  14. Piers Morgan probably isn't a favourite of most people,  but on this Morning he was saying he is going to campaign for parking charges to be scrapped for NHS workers.

Imagine coming out of A&E or surgery at the moment,  12 hours facing off against CV19 only to find you have a ticket on your windscreen,  just what your day needs, a final kick in the 🥎🏀🏐 before you head for home to rinse and repeat.

PM had a stack of letters on his desk, he's asked people to send them in saying he will pay them, but first he's going to write to the companies and ask them to cancel them, he said it would be far easier to just pay them but that wouldn't solve the problem.

So if you know anyone working in the NHS being charged to park, or who's been fined while parked, get on this. I've no idea what NHS staff pay for parking but I'll bet it takes a chunk out of their wages.

A celebrity doing some good? Rare indeed.

There was a man on the radio from Austria talking about Austria being able to start lifting restrictions. When asked what Austria was doing right compared to the UK he (more or less) said what do you expect?

His view was the UK hasn't had a proper lock down. We still have buses and trains running, people are still going to work, airports are still open etc.

Austria, apparently, had a real lock down, I suspect Germany was the same. One thing about the Germanic peoples, when they are told to do something they do it to the letter.

You mean they didn't just suggest people stay home and expect them to??

Now we have played at lockdown a full proper lockdown for two weeks could probably make a real difference.

Regarding S. Korea i thought it was attributable to mass testing, tracing of infected and those they've been in contact with and isolation.

I was under the impression Germany were doing this, testing people and tracking their movements then testing people they could have come into contact and locking down small areas.

Germany are certainly doing something right.

S Korea must just be telling pork pies, otherwise they know something others don't?

I saw a squirrel on a house yesterday,  facing down on the brickwork,  I've always thought squirrels in houses would be because they are near trees. Never seen one climbing brickwork before, never mind just there like spiderman barking at something.

Hi Steve, would love a few if poss...I'm trying to plant a small wood, that's lost quite a few trees, during the storms two years ago....:)

Our local council give out free trees each year, worth keeping an eye out in your area.

  19. They were talking about care homes on ITV this morning,  they said the average age is 85! I didn't expect it to be this high, so any sort of virus is going to have a serious impact on the people in there.

They were also talking about PPE, one care home said they had had to pay £8500 for a weeks worth,  stocks had gone to the NHS and prices have gone up because of demand,  plus care homes pay vat but the NHS doesn't.
