  1. Rupert Those are clay grounds mate, shooting air rifle is my issue not clays Yes both full, refusing memembers
  2. nearest clay ground with a range is about 40 miles away. Park Lodge and way over priced in my opinion.
  3. My main interest is clay shooting but I have always done a bit of air rifle shooting and intend to start doing much more. However I am having difficulty finding a club in my area. I know of one or two but they are all closed for membership . Can anyone help me where I can find somewhere to shoot and it also must be open mid week
  4. well clay grounds still chipping away with price increases and by all accounts cartridges going up yet again. They should be soon calling themselves CASA Can't Afford to Shoot Anymore
  5. Out in Spain it translates to clay plate shooting, but whatever 'they' wish to call the sport I will carry on doing it and lose no sleep over a name,
  6. Good advice as we are all different and all see things differently. Colour blindness or varying degrees of it are quite common and many people dont often realise it. My Grandson cant see pink, it just looks grey to him. He's not a shooter but if he were, I dont know how he would go on seeing a pink clay against a grey over cast sky.
  7. Oh I dont know thats totally true, the bloke in the front row wearing what looks like a pair of grubby old pumps lets the side down a bit 😄
  8. I have heard good reports about coniston and it is nearer to me than some other grounds I visit. However its a terrible drive to get there, i have never bothered going.
  9. Many shooters also have to travel a fair way to get to grounds and the cost of fuel is another factor to add. I have also noticed that some shooters are still going as often but shooting a few less clays.
  10. As far as this goes, I have no problem with 24gm. At the moment I have a shoulder injury and I am using 21gm and quite I quite enjoy it and still get the same amount of hits as I did with 28gm
  11. Yes I must admit that I find that statement amusing. However lets not forget the anti lead lobby dont seem to know that much about shooting.
  12. Its not too far from me. Could you please tell me when do they shoot and what disciplines. Also clay cost ,would be much appreciated to know, Thanks 👍
  13. Well if you are like me and plenty others, you may be thinking like that now. However give it 12 months or so and you'll be fancying something else. Guns do that to you , if we didnt all chop and change , there would be hardly any gun shops around and even less new ones getting manufactured.
  14. Lets hope someone decent takes over, i am always interested in grounds available mid week.
  15. Hmmm, i shoot occasionaly with a couple of guys from Sheffield and well over a year ago i asked them what it was like as its not that far from me. Put it this way, i have never been.
  16. I believe you are from South Yorks and I see sycamore is temporarily closed, am I on the right track ?
  17. Those with fixed choked trap guns. Think about it, manufactures go 3/4 full as a norm. So if you buy a new fixed choke trap gun thats what you ususlly get. They do the job and many shooters may leave them as they are. You cant put chole back into a gun ,only open them out and thats why they are made tight. Like the majority on this thread have said, people with multi choke guns who use 3/4 in bottom barrel are in the minority.
  18. churchills is a good ground, normally top end price wise. However they used to do mondays at 25p dont know if they still do.
  19. Totally agree, also when clays are cheaper it tempts shooters to shoot more.
  20. It fluctuates between 25p and 40p in yorkshire and the 40p ground is not the best. Inflation and rising cost of living hasnt had time to really bite and the country is enjoying good weather which will bring the shooters out. Come mid week january some of the grounds will be like ghost towns ,especially at 40p to practice
  21. I accept the large commetcial grounds that are open several days a week have overheads above your sunday straw bailer and are more expensive. However what i cant understand is the difference in the amounts some of these ground charge. Some charge 30% more than others. I am also comparing grounds that own their own land, so rents are not the reason.
  22. Half choke first barrel is more than enough. I also know plenty of AA DTL shhoters that shoot 3/8 or 1/4 and use no8 shot.
  23. Plus the benefits of shooting under cover in most cases. 😂👍 Time marches on for everyone 😂
  24. Just looked at the last OT reg event at Beverley. 46 shooters, 9 super vets just short of 20 % UT also shows similar ratio, I would also guess DTL would be even higher if classified that way.
  25. Don't know where you shoot, but I would say the largest group of shooters I see are all well into 60 and beyond.
