  1. I think we were talking about firms like BSA/Austin before the combination of unions and accountants ###### them up. Long before BL or even Triumph existed.
  2. @Gordon R, welcome to the motor trade.
  3. When we did it made us the greatest nation in the World.
  4. No, not if the dash flag is not showing.

    Handwarmers

Maybe I’m lucky, but I’ve never had to replace a burner in over 20 years and sometimes they are used 5 days/week. How much do the burners cost?
  6. Brilliant bit of kit, rarely move without them.

    Handwarmers

They all vary in performance. I have one Peacock which will sometimes give up to 24 hrs heat, and regularly 18+. The other Peacock (same model) has not lasted over 14 hrs. I have not tried a Boston.
  8. I once had a man tell me he had never seen a badger, and how rare they were. I could show him three occupied sets within less than 500 yards of his house.
  9. @Manish, Dog or no dog, you will not be fowling for long on The Wash if you go out on those marshes in thick fog. It can be a VERY dangerous place. In fog the sea wall is virtually the only place to be. PS I shot on The Wash from 1965 until 1992.

    Handwarmers

We have seven hand warmers between me and my wife. Tried them all I reckon. Lighter fuel: Peacock all day over Zippo. Rechargeable are very handy for instant warm when you need it without it running all day.
  11. My wife has a pair of lovely soft tweed with waterproof drop liner made to order by Duck-Dri.
  12. I collected a Baikal for Albert two weeks ago. It has 24 inch barrels with hacksaw marks and totally parallel bores. Nothing suspicious there then.
  13. @Dave good post, from the horses mouth, as it were.
  14. I’ve done a heck of a lot of it, from both sides of the line, and a long way behind the line. And I’ve enjoyed every minute in all positions, beater, loader, gun or picking up. Don’t make me choose which is best.
  15. You have to remember that on the formal shoot you were not one of the party. It was organised for the benefit of the guns. Beaters enjoyment was of no consequence. The rough shoot you were very much part of the party and it took place for everyone’s enjoyment.
  16. And another bonus is the engine runs noticeably smoother on LPG.
  17. I like to use a four ten occaisionally and I find my 4lb 2 oz double hammerless Army and Navy ridiculously easy to shoot with.
  18. They must be prepared to lose a large percentage of birds shot.
  19. What happens when you drop one in a large double decker bus sized deep gutter full of water.
  20. I am a long way from being a six stone weakling myself, but I have preferred light guns since I first tried one about 1967.
  21. Yeah, but I swear I saw one with a moustache!
  22. I would not even consider ‘fowling without a dog. Any time!
  23. If I ever have to trade her in for a new one I’m not having one of those skinny dolly birds next time. I want a big strong one who can carry a pair of guns in a double bridle leather slip, together with a 250 bag of cartridges, and can chuck bags of dog food in the car all day. I’ll wake up in a minute!
