  1. A long time ago I had an over under reduced from 30 thou and 10 thou,to 5 thou and 15 thou. I believe it cost me £20 altogether in about 1981,when take home pay was £10 a day.
  2. For many years now it seems the shop has been almost abandoned, with Robert Tilney pursuing big money from the BBC for short appearances. Also he will be out shooting, fishing socialising etc.,the shop became insignificant. I knew him at Grammar school, rather a privileged spoilt brat who bullied and swanked. His father on the other hand was in the shop 5 or 6 days a week it was his business and main income source, did rather suck up to the local gentry and wealthy farmers though.
  3. I remember seeing the programme, I knew Lindsey Tilney, and bought an air rifle from his shop in 1971. I believe he died in 1990 aged 85.The boy Robert was a bit of a big head at school and a bully,he’s 68 now and makes appearances on Antiques Roadshow, still full of his own importance!
  4. Not to be recommended,my brother had a 407 hdi 1.6, steering rack trouble, numerous dash warning lights appeared. The French don’t make good cars, wine and cheese yes maybe!
  5. My first 12 bore was also a BSA Snipe, got it second hand for £13 in 1972,today I couldn’t even give away a gun like that! Yet then it was weeks wage to many adults!
  6. In most cases a mother who doesn’t work but claims child benefit for any child under 12 gets automatically credited for National insurance as is working, this may not answer your question though. My sister who only worked about 3 years in her life before marrying will still qualify for 90% of her state pension as she had 27 years credits. Sounds unfair while I paid many thousands in national insurance!
  7. My one and only Game Fair day was in July 1976,at the Glanusk Estate near Crickhowel..
  8. A good time to sell with Silver and gold at extraordinary record highs! £20 an ounce for .925 silver. Obviously these have a higher value as a collection.
  9. In my experience clay grounds allow home loads except for registered competitions, though I haven’t reloaded for over 40 years myself, small bores like the .410 or 28 bore are the only ones that are worthwhile,12 bores are cheaper to buy commercially.
  10. If they hadn’t made a tv programme about it nothing would ever have been done,as it is the government don’t like it and dragging their feet to compensate!
  11. Mine has it too, made in 1998,look up the serial number on the database to find out exactly.
  12. Nothing spotted in South Wales yet, never usually see them until mid April in recent years, was earlier as I remember many years ago!
  13. Over £150 to buy new equivalents today!
  14. Wow,a real bargain there, sorry you’re 350 miles away! Would be worth more to me! Should go very quickly.
  15. £65 for 6 months is very cheap! My standing charge alone is more than that. Mine is £115 for 6 months including standing charge, and I use little water at 70 litres a day.
  16. I can only say what I use,and different water regions have different prices. My standing charge is £151 a year, and I am living alone using 25 units a year on average which is 25,000 litres. So about 70 litres per day. Each 1000 litres costs £3.40 which includes the cost of sewerage waste,(less if a septic tank is used) Here you have up to 2 years to trial a meter and can change back if you want. But it’s really a no brainer, even with 3 in a house it is about half the unmetered charge. To equal the unmetered charge I would have to use 6 times as much water as I do.
  17. Seriously consider a water meter! Free fitting I believe and pay a £150 a year standing charge plus £3.40 per 1,000 litres used. That’s our charge anyway, comes to £230 a year altogether instead of about £680 unmetered.
  18. £50 a week! Terrible lot for one person, sounds like a biggish property though, possibly band F? Think it would cost more in Wales, though houses are worth less!
  19. It was a better system in my opinion, every adult over 18 contributed for the council services instead of just the householder!
  20. That must be about the dearest council in England! Band F here will be £3,305 here and that’s bad enough! House values are greater in Bristol though.
  21. That’s a much lower cost than my band B of £1,780! Also my house is probably only half the value of yours at £120,000.It’s ridiculous here, gone up from under £300 a year to £1780 in 30 years while wages have merely trebled!
  22. I’d prefer 4.9% to our 7.95% increase ! 😊Some areas are 10% or more.
  23. Bit cheaper down Cwmbran way I think? Band D here,worth about £175,000- £260,000 is now £2280 a year!
  24. Just had my latest bill, band B house worth about £120,000, council tax £1778.-25% single occupancy £1333! Up 7.95% on last year. Now 10% of total income,Yet the owners of £1million+ London houses paying under £1,000 a year. No doubt there are some bills higher with similar low value homes?
