  1. I have always changed oil and filers, but I have had cars with easy to reach filters. Some these days are fitted deliberately in awkward places, that are time consuming so that the dealers are left to make money.
  2. One of the minority lucky ones then, they are all leaving for private work .
  3. Going like the health service by the sound of it! Never mind all the taxes we pay we have to pay privately for policing too..
  4. I am sure the steel company paid in too as most employers do. A fine idea for the rich! Have a gross income of £10,600 a year and pay £1,060 in tax from it? Just try living on that £9,540! Some pensioners get even less than that!
  5. I have two pairs of Carl Zeiss 8x30 in my collection both from 1980.I too bought from EBay. Yours are from 1975 from the serial number, the coated lenses began in 1977,and were continued in production until 1991,Tha last year serial numbers were 7241174-7246633. Excellent binoculars,10x50’s are a bit heavy but fabulous quality. There are many Japanese versions around, the screws are in different places, and the serial numbers only 6 digits instead of 7,These are worth far less than the DDR originals.
  6. I was in the 1982 Wales team at the same time a much younger Graham was high gun for England. The venue was Mochdre Gun Club near Newtown,Powys.
  7. There’s an election coming and they hope to salvage a few votes!
  8. The legal electric bikes with 250watt motors can only power up to 15.5 mph while pedalling, mopeds can reach around 30mph. The more powerful electric bikes 500-1000 watts are illegal on roads without tax insurance licence etc.
  9. I think income tax was 33% in 1977,and National Insurance at 7%,however vat was only 8%, Thatcher put it up to 15% straight away, hitting the poor most!
  10. Yes Thatcher helped the rich but did little or nothing for the man earning £40 a week in 1979! In fact she even had the evil to make unemployment benefit taxable for the first time! At the same time raised vat from 8% to 15%. Hitting the low paid who wouldn’t vote for her!
  11. Well said Yellow Bear! Agree it’s the amount of increase that’s important not the percentage! The person working 35 hours at minimum wage gets a weekly increase of £16.41 a week (£11.16 after deductions). The person on £30,000 gets £25.96 a week increase (£17.65 after deductions) A pensioner getting 8.5% rise gets less than both of these and even less if they are tax payers.
  12. But when you’re getting a pay rise it’s a percentage of a proper wage of perhaps £30,000 so getting 5% of that is more than 8% of £10,600. Before people object to the state pension rising they should try living their lifestyle on £203.85 a week, and remember that the more the pension rises the more there will be for them at 66 or 67!
  13. There can’t be many 65 mm cartridges of 36 grams+! 34 is most I know of,like Eley Maximum! Even those are 67mm I think, but designed for 3 tons proof.
  14. My 1895 Clarbrough and Johnstone sidelock has several dents collected over the years,The barrels on side by sides are often quite thin near the muzzle, about 30/1000” in this case.
  15. Could be 10 or 11 mm socket on a long bar. May also have a slot for screwdriver.
  16. Sizzlers are very good, decent size scampi chips and peas, about £8. A pint for £2.35 on Mondays.
  17. His aim is to become the richest man in the graveyard. Let’s hope the tax man takes 40% in inheritance tax!
  18. More in one week than I pay for a year!
  19. Most likely 2.5 inch chambers,3” magnum wasn’t really thought about much in older times,I think a 3 inch cartridge wouldn’t fit if chamber 2.5 inch. Can check with something like a long nail, push in until you see the end reach the start of cone, then measure.
  20. Sounds like another attempt to make gun ownership more difficult by adding greater costs just like they did with the medical forms and doctors fees! In this case it is out of order, and needs nipping in the bud. Makes you think though how long until this does actually become a legal requirement? Numbers of SGC holders will fall rapidly in future as only those with deep enough pockets will be allowed to continue their sport. When I got my first SGC in 1972,age 14,shotguns could be hung on the wall,or stood in a corner, the serial numbers weren’t even recorded, and we had as many as we wanted as I recall.
  21. These pistols have gone up a lot, new ones now at £60! I have a black version with wood grips, it cost £15 in 2002.
  22. I still have a similar one today, was installed when the house was built in 1980,still works fine, costs 80p an hour on full.
  23. I had my renewal yesterday, they wanted 51% more than last year, so I got on the phone to them and they came down to 22% more than last year. So settled for £186 a year with £100 excess and protected bonus which was similar to the lowest on compare the market.(Direct Line)
  24. A shame about that barrel length! It must be close to 24 inches, doesn’t look particularly short.
