I've re-posted this in the paid-for shooting section. Thinking 'free' meant free of advert charge, I put it here by accident. Admin - please remove this one if appropriate. We're looking for two full guns to join a walk-stand self-keepered shoot that has decided to press ahead with shooting this year. With suitable contingency plans in place to accommodate social distancing, we've ordered 1000 birds for release in August. Members are expected to do their bit and, even if work parties cannot go ahead, all tasks are delegated. We're particularly looking for someone who is good with machinery maintenance/care but this is not an essential. As we do all the preparatory work and feed duty ourselves, priority will be given to applicants who reside within easily travelling of the shoot. We plan to shoot 8 or 10 days from early Nov. As an experiment, we'll also be organising four evenings duck flighting (mallard and teal) this year on our 5 ponds. Also a Feb roost shoot, and (for deer stalkers) we have a second syndicate of stalkers who shoot over a 400 acre mixed woodland/pasture and have had great success since we started this last year. Shoot is between Monmouth and Chepstow. In past seasons we've released a mixture of phez (1200) and partridge (60) and have achieved an average 50 bird day. With less birds to wood this year we are limiting the risk and therefore expect slightly smaller bags. We are a very friendly shoot with a great sense of camaraderie and a real emphasis on safety. We enjoy good facilities such as a shoot hut and a large, heated lunch facility. PM for details.

So at 5.30am on Friday my alarm went off that the day had finally arrived that I was heading over to meet up with Andrew (Elk Hunter on here) for a beginners day in deer stalking. Everything going well until I hit some crappy morning traffic on the M6 but that out the way and managing to make up a little time I was only a couple of minutes late and all was looking good and the rain that I'd seen forecast was no where to be seen with pretty much clear blue skies ... On the way over Andrew gave me an overview of what the day had in store for me and once we arrived kitted up and made our way over to the range giving me the opportunity to check my zeroing out at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Once Andrew was happy we headed over to where the deer were and once they'd started to settle he directed me into the one that I was going to take when the opportunity came. After getting comfy and ready to take the shot (I've no idea how long it was until I took the shot) Andrew gave me the all clear to pull the trigger... Safety off, deep breath, part exhale, point of aim and bang! The deer stumbled a little and Andrew whispered 'reload' - this had completely slipped my mind with all the adrenalin pumping through my body. What a flipping feeling! We waited around 5 minutes and started our approach to the deer. We got there and yep... Definitely dead. After a quick sandwich and a warm drink Andrew talked me through a quick inspection of the deer and what to look for before guiding me through performing the gralloch myself and provided me with no end of useful hints and tips and again talking me through exactly what to look for while doing this. We loaded up the truck and headed down to skin and butcher the carcass - Again Andrew provided me with no end of useful tips and tricks from his huge knowledge on the subject. Once skinned and opened up a little we looked to see where and what had been hit and it was a clean heart shot. He had plenty of patience with me throughout the skinning and butchering All in all a ruddy awesome day and I would definitely recommend Andrew to anyone who is new to shooting deer and even those who are well experienced... We can all learn something new Thanks again to Andrew for getting me hooked on something I'm now going to have to do again and already exploring the options available Iain

50 Yr old IT lecturer shotgun owner and FAC bunny basher wishes to progress to Deer. Will swap making a website or other IT related stuff for venison/mentoring/stalking experience, anything that will get me closer to my goal. I am a member of a 'centerfire' shooting club and will (probably) buy a Sako .308 later in the year to use first on the range and then later still for deer. I need experience and would like to offer my skills so I can benefit from yours.

hi i'm looking to book some stalking for this year, Sika, red or fallow. Me and a mate travel to kent around 3 times a year to stalk fallow deer, stalks only cost £120 for full day but when you add up the cost for travelling there and back and then the cost of digs and BEER it turns out not to be that cheap. So looking for some stalking that is a bit closer to me. I have a contact in scotland for sika and was there last year and shot my first sika stag and hind, We will be going back there this year also. All contacts will be appreciated.

Hi i have some land at minute for roe shooting, But i'am also looking for some more land as dont want to out shoot all what i have and spoil it. I would be happy to pay a small fee for some deer shooting land if need to. Me and my friend have now been shooting deer for 4 years, and we respect the land that we shoot on. We are full members of BASC insurance. I live in northumberland but i am willing to travel.
