BlaserF3
Have you got it's pair with R on? Then you would have one for each hand

Dunkield
Your options are failry obviously left handed or lightweight. Send the serial number to GMK and they should be able to help. I guess the clues would be: does it weigh much? are you right handed? and can you hit anything with it?
lister1
left hand cast?
Dunkield
web search suggests: MODEL 686(L) SILVER PERDIZ - 12 (disc. 1990), 20 (disc. 1990), or 28 ga., field model, boxlock action, various barrels/ chokes, ejectors, single trigger, engraved silver finished receiver, special walnut, pistol or straight grip stock, fixed chokes disc. 1987

Mungler
"L"ikes a bit of uphill gardening?
COACH
Put it against another 686 and see if its a lb or two lighter. How much does it weigh ? Is it a fixed choke ? because that will keep the weight down. If it weighs less than 6 1/2 lbs it has be light surely. If it`s 7lbs or more it could be just the grade letter. I had a S686 Special in the mid eighties but it didn`t have the L on it. Choked 1/4+1/2 fixed. Damned good gun .
unclemicky
So some interesting an varied answers, I see some of you still have that cutting edge sense of humour that you need when posting on this forum I'm right handed and the gun weighs just over 7lb, looks like a e-mail to GMK with the serial number to try an gleen some more information ,
White Rabbit
Dead easy! Its obviously quite an old model. (better quality in a lot of people's opinion). The L stands for Lux ie. a de-lux model. They also did one known as the woodcock which had special engraving on it. Look after it cos it'll hold it's value way better than newer models.
