Dunkield
Is the venison just as good from muntjac as it is from Roe and red? It is finer meat than Red, I prefer it, but haven't eaten loads of either, I have been told it can be bitter but again it depends what they have been scoffing. Evil Elvis
Thanks guys, i thoroughly enjoyed my day!!! Those muntjac do look very small compared to the half a dozen I have seen on my land. Are you a 6'4" giant? They look a lot bigger until you get up close, the bigger one weighed around 14lb grallocched and the smaller one 11.5lbs. and while not 6'4" I am 6'2" and 19stone!!! I have eaten muntjac, the muntjac that Gary b did at bisley and barbequed it was awsome!! Some of the nicest meat Ive ever eaten!!! The year before someone brought some fresh roe deer to the event( I cant remember who), that was also super tasty but the munty was best!! Their stomachs were full of rape leaves....stuart? how will that affect the taste?

To be honest, I can't tell you fella, it's very subjective. From memory the person who said the meat wasn't nice reckoned they had been munching on bluebells Be interesting to hear how yours comes out anyway, I would imagine your guide must have eaten a few? Mrs Sweepy
I perfer Muntjac too Roe(takes alot to beat Muntjac) But i do find it has the strong smell when cooking which could put people off. We have alot of muntjac round here So much so its nothing strange to see them feeding along the side of the roads. I pass one every night in the same spot at about 8pm. Am sure one day i will be bringing it home in me boot. Or maybe even my bonnet xxxxSuzy

Tommo
You'll find that anything that eats rape leaves tastes bitter. We've shot loads of Munties and CWD and they both like rape leaves (CWD usually live in the rape fields as opposed to pasture) Pigeons taste like #### when they are on rape - The animals you have shot are less than a year old - well that’s what l think anyway, they will taste good - when you shoot them frequently you'll realise that anything forward of the shoulders is near useless and at best dog food - it simply isn't worth the time and effort to cut off the meat and separate the tough tissues. On grolloching l find that a sharp knife will cut from pelvis to chin with little effort (the old FC way!) but everyone has their methods and what suits you is best. Whilst l like Munty, l really like a haunch of a Roe that has been hung for +20 days, boned and then sliced to steaks - now that is some of the best eating you will ever experience. So much so that l have friends and family asking when they can come for tea to a steak night!! I tend to fillet the Munties and mince most - liver, heart and kidneys are put into pies -
