hiya im looking to spend about £150 on a air rifle for shooting rabbits pigeons and rats but wat is better for my price range ??

i was looking at a few co2 guns cause there quite ad i like the look of the king ratcatchers but no 1 thinks there good and i have herd a few rumors that they arent the best for bunnies and i dunno if its worth buying all the co2 bottles after a while theyll cost more than the gun  i was hoping to get an air rifle with a silencer  but im not sure what to buy whats your opinions ?? or do any off you have 1 for sale ??

Thanks Jorge

A ratcatcher will take out rats and rabbits, not sure how accurate they are so not sure about pigeons, headshots and all that, but if you look hard enough you can get a excellent Webley or BSA springer which are excellent rifles. With a springer you are going to have the problem with recoil

Go for the Mercury mate-superb bit of engineering that will see off anything in its price range.Cant see the price since it dropped but in its condition i would say a max of £120 posted would be fair. You will need a scope and if you go for the mercury i would invest in a decent one-piece mount. If you cant kill vermin with one of these then you need to consider another hobby. p.s.-they are a fairly large gun but handle well so dont worry about the size.

I totally agree with the above post. Many moons ago we three had an Airsporter, mine, a FWB Sport .177 and the third had a Mercury. Fienwerkbau Sport was the muts nuts (1979-80?). I sold my Airsporter to get a FWB. However, our mate stuck with the Mercury. He loved it and lubed it religeously with moly something for the internals.

Tell you what, I shot it many times, we were always swapping in those days...girls n guns...ok to swap :good: , what a bloody great bit of kit it was. Didn't look much compared to our Germanic hero's, but hit just as hard and in the right hands ver accurate. Go buy it, you will not be diss. Honest, they are under rated. Ratcatcher...I'd rather go to rehab no-no-no. Get that Merc-do.

Chap...Co2 is not the way to go for your requirements in my opinion, some Co2 owners will no doubt dissagree, well, ignore me and look above, did ANYONE say yes, great go and get one, I think they all suggested springers or something else!!

ATB!!

I would say that most CO2 owners would disagree.

Although you have pointed out the perceived disadvantages of a CO2 (which can mainly be resolved with a cheap upgrade), you have omitted the fundamental problem of the springer - the recoil and its effect on accuracy.

For the price the CO2 gun gives an easy entry into shooting, and as I and many others have found, is perfectly capable of accurately killing rabbits, pigeons and squirrels

I have left CO2 cartridges in my XS78 for weeks without a problem

....and what about up grades ??

You can buy a kit from TR Robb and upgrade it yourself - but you would need to make use of a chronograph to ensure that you didn't overtune it. Alternatively you could send it to Ian Lamb for him to work on it

Not at all - give it a go - they are cheap enough for you to try out and see if it suits you
