JonD
Hi All, I picked up my new gun today, a Beretta AL391 Teknys Stonecoat Sporter, 30" which is awesome. As i have always had O\U's i was wondering how much of the S\A i need to take with me if i ever had to leave it in the car. Can i just take the fore end cap, or cap plus fore end or do I need to take the barrel or action. Just want to get an idea to stay on the right side of the law if anything happened. Cheers, Jon. Mr_Logic
All depends how long you want to leave it...
Imperfection
Just remove the forend like you would with an O/U.
casts_by_fly
that won't render the gun unusable by any stretch. Short of taking the firing pin with you, you're not going to be able to pull one part (that is easy to carry on your person) and render the gun inoperable. If you're that concerned, get a trigger lock and cable the gun to the brackets holding your seat down. Or throw a blanket over the case so no one can see it and be mindful of where you're parking. berettaman
You have to be as secure as you can afford and if it goes missing from your car the police will treat you like the villain, they are of the opinion the gun should never be left unattended, the trouble is a lot of game shooters are masters of repetition they shoot all day then go to the pub for a quick one before going home and thats when your career criminal strikes,in short dont do it
Tin Man Work
I use a good cycle cable lock and fix the gun to a bracket in the boot, pull the slip over it then park with the boot against a wall when I can - that's a reasonable effort. If the missus is with me she insists on having the forend and cap in her handbag.......
arjimlad
A quick fix is to pull the bolt lever out & take that with you. An opportunist cannot pull the bolt back then. If you are leaving it for longer you can take the bolt out & put that in your pocket too. But that involves more stripping.
Dekers
I wouldn't get over stressed, I don't see many people walking around with barrels from their O/U. You have to take reasonable precautions, conceal it as best you can, often the boot is favourite, lock the car, alarm if possible as well. There are potential anchor points in many cars as well if you want to try some cable locks etc!!
ozzy518
Easiest thing to do is not leave it in the car unattended really...I have no means at all of securing my Landy rag top so it gets refuelled and evrything I need for the days shooting is all done the day before.. Ozzy Fudd
surprised no-one said this, but you should be able to take the trigger housing out easily enough (usually one pin and it falls out), that would be easier than messing about with forends (which leaves the gun still usable), lock the rest of the gun to the car using a bike lock, etc, and jobs a good one
humperdingle
Carry a soft snooker cue case in the boot and shove the barrel into it for carrying about. Might not look quite so kooky.
Daz2381
Hi, I don't have a Beretta, but with the Browning if doing long trips where I may leave the gun in the car I remove the firing block before the journey and keep that on me, without this the gun is useless Atb Daz
