Will Beasley
Howdy gang. Right this is the situation: I've got WAY too many pigeons at the moment, and although I'm still taking people out at this time of year I am struggling to keep up and get the ground covered. I'm literally snowed under! So therefor I am willing to offer any Pigeonwatch member a DIY day ( where you supply all your own gear I just supply you with the land and the birds) for £25 a day WEEKDAYS ONLY. This would normally cost £40 a day so PW members save £15. Bags have got much better lateley due to winds that we have had recently and the guys have been getting between 30-70 birds each per day which, I think you'll agree, over Rape is respectable. If you fancy a day then PM me for more info. You WILL need a MAGNET or at the very least a shedload of decoys...the acreages of Rape grown here are vast and you're pretty much ******* in the wind with half a dozen shells. No Dogs allowed (without exception), Plastic or Felt wad shells I dont mind. Kick off at 8am ish -finish at 3pm ish.

Stealth Stalker
Hi Will That sounds good to me, there's not alot about on my permission at the moment. All winter wheat! On another note I've just been on to your website looking for lofting poles and attachments, but couldn't find any. Are you not doing them anymore? I'll PM you about the shooting. Cheers S.S
Axel
Hi Will, that sounds a great offer. Can I ask your advise please? I've got plenty of land over this way but I'm not having much luck on the OSR despite doing 2-3 recce's before setting up with 15+ shell decoys. I've never thought about using a magnet but you seem to be saying that they are essential over OSR, yes? Where would I put one, in relation to the decoy pattern? I've got 400+ this year in dribs and drabs using decoys but maybe I need to splash out a bit. Cheers, Axel (Cambs)

There's a section at the bottom of the menu on the left that shows various patterns to get you started. I'd say a Magnet is of a definate benefit on Rape!! You NEED some movement to convince the *******......lets face it if you were a pigeon flying over a field would you want to come down to 15 plastic shells or would you prefer not to risk being blasted to bits and carry on flying as you can see (what you think to be) real live birds moving in the distance? I think I know what your answer would be....... EDIT: More recently we've been using two Magnets on Rape and this seems to work a treat....had a very good success rate with this method. Place two magnets 30 yard apart (one left one right) and a decoy pattern set up in between.....fantastic! flash
do you only shoot in oxfordhsire as i remember reading somewher that you do the days in hampshire as well or was that someone else. if not i will probably come up to oxfordshire with my dad tom ps do you mind have two people in the hide sharing one gun, weith both paying the correct price of course Edited December 6, 2005 by flash
Teal
They do have some land in hampshire, and other neighbouring counties. Depends where the pigeons are as to where they'll be shooting!
Will Beasley
Teal is right, our patch in Hants we usually shoot in springtime when the Braley is drilled, and as its quite a long way from our base we only go there if its going to be a dead cert blinder of a day. No point doing 250 mile round trip to shoot 20 birds! So yeah, no problem its likeley it will be in Oxfordshire and I dont mind you sharing so long as there's only one gun in the hide, two guns in same hide is not allowed for safety reasons. Let us know when you want to come. "Stealth Stalker" from Pigeonwatch has been here today and had quite a tidy day of 32 birds. One of the other guns got 60 dead on and the other only 12 and the weather conditions were not totally favourable so there's plenty about! Stealth Stalker
Will Thanks again for making me feel so welcome, I had a great day As you,ve just mentioned not great weather conditions, which made for some really testing sport (for me anyway). As alot of people on here will know shooting over OSR can be quite frustrating at times, but you set us up in the right places to keep the birds on the move (shame about Dave) although I get the feeling he's gonna have his work cut out 2moro Thanks also for the mini tour of the Warehouse (I was like a kid in a sweet shop) And sharing some of your tips & tricks, hopefully I can put them into practice (don't know about calling the birds in) I might need a bit of coaching from you old man I can highly reccommend you to other PW members. Anyway thanks again. I'm off to write my christmas list to Santa Cheers Stealth Stalker. P.S Flash we were shooting in Whitney 2day

Totally agree with you as we have been using 2 magnets on OSR many many times and we are DEFINITELY convinced the movement is where you will succeed as of against just "deeks" We have experimented by removing 1 and then both the magnets and the pigeons STOPPED flying in altogether. Put them back out and within minutes they had returned.

malcolm
I have just taken Will up on his extended offer and had a wonderful day. I missed far more than I shot, but still ended up with about 20, which is good for me. Will certainly knows where the pigeons are. After sitting for hours in the freezing cold at my local permision without even firing a shot, this was heaven. I would recommend any member within reach of Bicester to give it a go. Many thanks to Will. And no, I have not had a "backhander". Malcolm Edited February 11, 2006 by malcolm
