Big John34
Heard from a mate today who had been speaking to a game keeper and he was saying that he had bought a new mod for his 17 HMR and it was as quite as a moded .22 and it had cost him £90, what make i asked, dunno never thought to ask, can you call him , uh dont know his number and it maybe months before i see him again - any idea's please, got a SAK fitted at the moment. Thanks John
PaulABF
I don't think you'll ever get a .17 to be as quiet as a modded .22. There'll always be the 'crack' due to it's muzzle velocity. A SAK mod is as good as anything and for £40 it's a bargain.
gottsy boy
hi, my mate has a t8 on his 22wmr same sort of sound as 17hmr and it still cracks, it's a little less sharp than my sak but it is over £200 so you have to spend the money to get only slight diff... Redgum
I have a ASE ultra that cost £82 a year ago, it was voted the best .17hmr moderator. Its only down fall, though slimmer than the sak its much heavier as its made of steel and not alley. I suppose it is comparable with a .22lr on stingers sound wise and maybe this is what the chap meant. The ultra is cleanable, would recommend it. deputy dog
Whack a sack on it mate. About £40 mark give or take. And for a cheap bit of kit it does the job well. You can pay out more if you like, but i think you'll paying too much out for little difference in sound moderation. This question has been asked many times before on this forum. And the humble sak seems to used by most pw members whether on their .17 hmr or .22lr. But the choice is up to you in the end. foxshooter
Saks burn out pretty quick though because of gas cutting For a more expensive but better option look at the calibre specific DM80 mod Mark
Beardo
when you say pretty quick... i've put about 3000 rounds through mine and it's still working fine, £30 well spent IMHO

That is still the situation as far as I am aware!!
