Anyone notice the trashed land rover in the car park on the metal road car parts everywhere.

Range Rover IIRC. Smashed up front end so guess it ran into the back of someone else?

Good weather and bought a few items. :good:

I visited the ''decoying'' stall, who sell the FUD decoys, and for some reason they didn't have any pigeon decoys at all.

They told me that there were NONE in the country

Looked in another decoy selling stall, almost directly opposite, and they had boxes and boxes of the things  one of the lads who worked in there said that they were now selling them :hmm:

Myself and John r went Friday I for one loved the show, lots of walking up and down the gunmakers row and plenty to see and talk about. well over priced food of course.... :hmm:

Big thanks has to go out to Paul Hart on the deal he did me for the hide poles and stealth net, great product, great price, and great to meet you Paul Thank you...

One thing i would say is any one going next year is to shop around and check internet prices etc..

We bought a crow call for £6 and the stand next to it over the side wanted £17 for the same product......

should have bought them all and sold them on...

Well happy with show and my good bought will def go again.

I went on Friday, had a fantastic day and bought a nice Fred Williams boxlock for 100 quid. Semi pistol grip, 32" barrels, knocked about a bit (inevitably as it's very old) but perfect bores. Shot an impossible crow with it yesterday, so well chuffed.

Spoke to Charlie Jacoby, Chris Green and John Humphreys, nice chaps all. Chris Green has an absolute wealth of pigeon shooting knowledge, surprised to find he never shoots anything over 35 yards?!

And after checking my bank statement this morning I found they charged me 26p instead of 26 quid for entrance hahahaha

Would love to see some photos, is it a live pigeon gun?

Coaching for BASC at the annual do near Chard about 20 years ago when we paused while the hawk display in the arena was on. Chris had given the other coach and myself a pack of his latest invention. Can't remember the name now, perhaps someone will, but they were flatish and could either be used as static decoys or thrown (spun) out as per Archie Coats' dead birds. Having a play and one flew out to be taken by a Harris. Reckon if that had been filmed Chris could have retired a very wealthy man about 6 months later.

Cheers

Arrived there on Friday afternoon and came home last night.

We camped on the campsite which was pretty good this time round. You take your chances camping, last year we had gang of student types which thought it funny to sound a hunting horn at 2.00am I didn't find it funny any more after the second blow but then an angry yorkshireman was heard intervening on the chorus, God knows what happened to the horn!

Stopping on the campsite adds to the whole gamefair experience, everyone meets up at the beer tent in the evening where you can listen to tales of terriers, gundogs and all matters of country sports while drinking ale under the night sky. However it's best taking your own beer or it's £3.50 a pint at the beer tent!

Overall I thought this year's gamefair was good but no where as good as last year at Belvoir Castle. The layout was not as good and apart from the International Gundog Arena, the other gundog competitions were not in spectator friendly areas. I think you're lucky to get a bargain at the CLA as gone are the days of running around the stands on the Sunday afternoon haggling with the traders for the best deal on those Le Chameaus, save it for the Midland. My best bargain I had last year was that my wife bought me a tweed waistcoat for my birthday from the Purdey sale rail for £105. This year the same waistcoat was marked up normal price at £350.

Had a great time, roll on the Midland and will still be going to Blenheim Palace next year, might even take my hunting horn :good:

Looked like they'd had an engine fire which had spread to the vehicle to me poor ****.

Excellent day out with the family yesterday, bumped into a few people I knew and avoided one or two others

Got a few bits and the kids enjoyed the Land Rover experience and Para tower (as well as the wife :good:)

Watched some of the shooting at the end, Richard Faulds and big George failed to make the final but it was good watching 'em play. Couldn't hang around for the final itself so not sure who won.

Looking forward to next year

I managed to drag the man with the car along on Sunday. An excellent day, and would seriously consider camping next year, as there is just far too much to even fly through in a day. Had planned a visit to the gundogs area, but spent all eight hours around gunmakers row and the clay line.

Picked up a good buy from Purdey - one of their weatherproof tweed caps for £19.

Loved looking at the guns (especially as I'll be in the market soon). Started looking at about one o'clock, then had a beer at what I thought was about two o'clock, it was actually about four-thirty...

I went to have a look at them in the flesh and was told there were none in the country, the other bloke in the other stall told me me they were now selling them. I was curious as to what he meant by that, as in where the ''unreliable decoying'' company no longer importing/ selling them :good:

Wasnt slating them (again) at all, but, as your getting personal (again) I suppose I should post up all the links to the all review sites :hmm: ........................... but I cant be ***** :good:

Im no ''armchair'' hero mate  . . . . . . Iv got the medals to prove it :D

Just a quick question (I appreciate that there may not be many cigar smokers here), but did anyone see the cigar roller at this year's event? I heard he was there on Sunday, but didn't see him. If anyone did, could you let me know where he was? It would be much appreciated.

I saw him on the friday, by the mountain boarding area :good:

The guy with the FUD decoys told us that his supplier had him over, and was now supplying them solely to GMK due to the fact they can shift more of them and charge him less, or something. Mind you, I'm sure I saw them on two or three different stands.

They look pretty good, much better than Silosocks. I still don't know how they manage to flog them, on the 3 occasions I've been out with my mate using them (owned by him not me!) most of the birds actually flared off at about 70 yards. Don't know what other people's experiences have been but I think my mates ones will be going on ebay soon!

We had a 5 minute conversation with that fur hat man, he was absolutely nuts. And 100% serious about his hats. They don't call them mad hatters fo nothing!
