Been looking on gunstar as I quite fancy getting myself a semi auto shotgun, seen a nice Beretta 391 Ulrika for 675 quid, anyone got any opinions on these good / bad price too high etc, like I said I'm fancying a semi auto but dont want the hassle of jamming and O rings replacing every few weeks

Sounds a good price....

I was too looking for a Semi Auto to have along side my Beretta 686 Gold E OU and it was on my list to try, check out. I went to local Supplier who had a good range of guns, including the Beretta AL391 & A400, Browing Maxus and Benelli Range. I had a set budget and picked many guns up and down including those listed.

I settled on a gun I least thought I would like or want, and still a little surprised at my choice but since buying it I have been like a big kid and couldn't wait to give some use today. I chose the Benelli Comfort and I am very happy with it. I found it fitted naturally, handled very well and felt very tactile.

Took it to Wyre Forest Guns today to shoot circa 100 clays and whilst I found it very different to my Berreta 686 Gold E OU but i did surprisingly well with it considering first semi I have used and first outing with this gun.

I am fairly new to the sport, six months but had shot many different OU and this gun felt so natural, handled very well and comfortable so I can only judge on that, but I would suggest there are others on here better placed to advise, but that just my small share of experience.

Had a 303 before and bought the 391 best part of 10 years ago.

No plans to change it yet, works for me!

Price wise there were a number of versions, mine is the Gold Game/Field gun and a bit more than the basic model, price depends on age, condition, model, etc, £675 could be ok, they hold thier value Reasonably well! :hmm:

if you fancy something different have a browse at the browning maxus.i bought one recentley and the results surprisped me at how fast you can get 2 or 3 shots off in no time no felt recoil and cycling is second to none no matter what shell u put in . just my opinion :hmm:

Thanks for the feedback Gents, I think I might just go for it, and Daz you mentioned it's ok for steel shot which is another good point I hadn't thought about, it'll be used for everything from rough shooting to clays so it's good to hear it's an OK all rounder.

  • 2 weeks later...

I switched to a Berreta AL391 Urika Teknys about 3 months ago and absolutely love it.

I use it for clays only and have put about 3500 cartridges through it from 21g to 32g and haven't had a single jam etc. It's really easy to clean and I find it easier than my Browning 525.

The critical thing i have found is the case length of the cartridge needs to be 70mm otherwise you get failure to eject etc particularly Hull Comp X even in 28g.

I do a full strip and clean about every 3-4 weeks (1000 carts) and the barrel gets boresnaked after every outing.

I found the synthetic a bit to light for me but the teknys with 30" barrel is perfect for me. As has been said, get out and try a few different ones.

Jon.

I got a Urika 391 a few months back and think it's a great shotgun - Even more so now it "Fits" better by using the deeper recoil pad and spacer supplied.

Only issue i've had is when the recoil absorber (buffer) got dislodged after using 50 gram loads, and it was sheared. Simple fix, however, and I replaced the recoil spring at the same time - That cost £20 or so.
