Ours was sprayed off early this week, but I was told today that they are combining direct and the plough wont be far behind.

Justifying the cost of that brand new gorgeous Case they have just purchased I presume.

same as most farmers don;t swathe it like they used to round my end just a few swathe.recenct years its combined spread with sludge from sewerage plants then ploughed in all within a week so got to be on the ball to get at em.

Our agronomist said it would be 3 weeks after spraying. But dad being tight fisted decided not to spray it and leave it, tbf if the weather stay like today then 2-3 week regardless. Got the combines out 2 months ago and there nearly ready to go

Usualy our rape stubble stays around for at least a month. Probably wont get cultivated till after harvest and then sown with winter wheat later on.

Hopefully it will get cut on the weekend then i can shoot with the combine, instead of running the bloody drier.

Have been trying to call my Farmer for last week but he seems to be away. Wouldnt have thought this was a time Farmers would be taking their hols???

doc

me too - but not heard from him!

Some farmers will definitely try to get quick break before harvest, it will be the last chance for some time. Or on the other hand they could still be busy getting ready for harvest (like me). Either way being hassled for shooting is generally the last thing on our minds. Leave a message and be patient, you will know soon enough if there is a problem or when there are fields clear for you to set up on.

Oh and the thunderstorm we had here this evening keeps the mind occupied for a while too, rape nearly fit to cut and storms don't mix well.

spoke to the farmer today and had a look up at the farm - he was in France when i texted.

all looking good - sprayed off last week, another week or two weather dependent.

quite a few birds dropping into it, but will leave til combined.

had a shoot on another farm on some standing wheat - managed 9 in an 90 mins - they were whistling by in the wind, made for some very challenging shots (and struggled to keep my hide standing!)
