Bedpan39
Well chaps One shot =24 replies so far. Much better than my pigeon encounter. Must thank you all for the tips and advice, but I'm still not selling the gun((only just got it,Barely 1000 shells through it and at least 9 pigeons)(underestimating a bit I think)). Still getting the fit right. Don't be surprised if I post another photo with at least 10 pigeons in it(not saying how many cartridges mind you) Bit of age, cataracts, runny eyes, bad back, arthtitis in me trigger finger and fluorescent yellow hair might have something to do with the low score. Thanks for looking all Bedpan39

yickdaz
Time to get down on the skeet range for a bit of practice that would help no end;as a round or 2 at sporting would as well
yankeedoodlepigeon
All in all though how many cartridges per pigeon on average would it be? Bedpan39
that would help no end;as a round or 2 at sporting would as well I average 30-35 on sporting but clays don't jink, unless you shoot skeet on a stormy day. You are right though I don't get as much clay shooting iin as I should. Bedpan39

verminer
you guys just cheered me up as i only shot one pigeon for 15 cart's yesterday and that was one of my better days!!!, normally its no pigeons as i cannot work out how much lead to give the little b#####ds. Ozzy Fudd
leads a funny thing, i find for crows its usually a bit less than you think, and for pigeons its usually a bit more one thing i did when i first started shooting was work out the speed of the shot, the average speed of the quarry and then looking at it at different ranges it would tell me roughly how much lead to use. admittedly if you factored in every possibility it would be alot to try and remember, but sometimes it can shock you how much lead you need on a pigeon flying at full speed at 40 yards ps dont worry bedpan, i reckon everyones had a day like that

Bedpan39 best way to do it when it goes slack on the pigeons as it does from time to time i head off and shoot a bit of clays stops you getting rusty. give it a go before your next outing on the woodies and i bet you see an improvement. tignme
Do you sit down when shooting pigeons, Do you sit down when shooting skeet. As the birds are coming to you rise and shoot naturally as if you are shooting skeet, forget about lead, come from behind bird and as you pass head shoot BUT keep the gun moving. tignme
Do you sit down at woodies. do you sit down at skeet. As the pigeons come to you rise and shoot as the gun comes to shoulder, come from behind bird as you see head shoot BUT keep the gun moving, forget about lead at normal decoying distances, remember most people shooting skeet are using a maintained lead system,in my opinion maintained lead is not for woodies. Emmsy
i shoot mainly clays at a good average, but i find when shooting woodies i have to cut the lead down compared to what i would give a clay. shoot whatever method suits you, saying maintained lead is no good is just rubbish. last time i went out i had 5 for 7 shells, shame there wasnt many around that day. yickdaz
shoot to the style that suits you best; personally i and many others use different styles on the day depends on what target it is; driven; crossing ;going away; dropping into decoys; and you usually get the lot in a decoying session. tignme
Emmsy,I did not say maintained lead is no good, very few people can shoot maintained lead sucesssfully,my point was skeet shooting is al about maintained lead and the transition to woodies mainly shooting all the other methods can throw one off .The other point was shooting from standing and sittingpositions is totally different. BTW I had 59 woodies for 75 shells at weekend but we all know that the average is 3 to 1.I wish I was as hot all the time.

S'true I had some great days with my Escort, just couldn't rely on it not to break down. So I bought a nice shiny black expensive one, look what happened. In all honesty I don't get many days like this now. But I always enjoy myself when out blastin' away Bedpan39
