Stuntman
Hello chaps, I was just after a little info. I'm by nature the type of bloke that takes every new piece of equipment, vehicle, remote control etc to bits to see how it works. Now I've taken my new Logun Domin8or to bits to see how it works, and i've maybe figured it out (I think!). Is this right? Taking the action off the stock and looking at the rear of the mechanism there is an adjuster to set the tension on the spring, now is the tension of the spring what determins the power output of the gun? As my theory is that when the trigger is pulled it releases the plunger which hits a valve that allows air out of the reservoir thus thrusting the pellet out ofthe gun? I'm not sure how the power adjuster on the side of the gun works though, is this a multiholed choke or something of that design? And are these the only things that seperate a 12ft/lb from a fac gun? If it is I'm amazed there isn't some form of security to stop people from tampering with their guns. I will make sure I chrono it again when I stick it back together tonight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Andi
minkhunter
i also have a domin8or and did strip it once soon after i had it ,bad mistake,i must have nicked a seal on re-build and would not hold pressure.i took it to scr for them to re-seal it.they also shortened the barell so the silencer screws on right at the point where the air cylinder ends..much better as rather long when standard he had to up the power a little due to the shorter barell..let us know how you get on.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Andi ................................ ....................................................................... ......As far as I am aware ALL currently available 12 ft lb air rifles in the uk have anti tamper fitted to stop you going FAC, this was not always the case in the early days of PCP. Regardless of this it is a simple process to move above 12 ft lb for most, to the area of 15-20ft lb, after this a little more effort is usually required. Bottom line is, it is you that is looking at a 5 year jail term if caught!
Stuntman
Chaps, you're getting the wrong end of the stick. I don't want to up the power. I just want to know how thIngs work. I own a 08 plate double cab defender 130, within a month of owning it I took it apart to ziebart everythng properly, I also changed the gear ratios in the transfer box, I just feel every man should be able to understand what he is using, and how to fix them. I'm not looking to go fac. I just like to know what I'm doing and m theory is correct. Don't worry I have no interest in gaol! Andi

If you tinker with a gun, and it goes belly up, you wont get much sympathy from the law.
Rem223
now is the tension of the spring what determins the power output of the gun? Yes most PCP's use the same method of controlling the power. The intensity of the firing strike controls the duration of the air discharge. So a harder strike releases more air. Some manufacturers add bleed off valves to limit the power. I had a Sheridan many years back that was drilled around the air valve so that some of the air discharged would bleed off and not power the pellet. By increasing the spring tension you could if you so desired increase the output. As to the legality of such techniques I make no moral judgment. What you do with your guns is your business but I would leave it at 12ftlbs if only to get more shots from a charge.
Stuntman
That's great chaps, but as I said I really just want to know how things work. I've managed to sort out a few nights at a local gunsmiths so I can learn about the choking systems for shot guns and how weights and charges effect the spread and range, he'll also be adjusting a mates Holland and Holland shotgun so the stock is at a better angle for him. As I said, I'm NOT interested breaking the law, I just have a massive deire to find out how things work. regards Andi
theprofessor
Andi, Just read your post about wanting to know how things work and I fully sympathise. I'm exactly the same. For people like us it's part of the whole experience. I'm impressed with your engineering ability! Cheers Ben

Andi when you find out how women work then please shout as im still in the dark about that one. most things i can take apart and me being me, i like to try and improve the way something works. but women, well i think i would get locked away if i tried to take one apart..... .....or would I anyone have spare patio slabs? no no i was joking. Now don't be daft!!- not even women know how they work  Andi Well done mate, there's nowt wrong with educating yourself I bought a shinsung career very cheaply, it was leaking as somebody had been messing with it, also it was over the limit, i took it to pieces several times, finally i cured the leak and got it to shoot at 10.8 ft lbs ME with JKSB exacts... I'm happy as larry with the rifle now, i thought every bloke had to take things apart to see how they worked  Cheers, John
Sha Bu Le
The golden rule is If it aint broke don't mend it & that includes taking things to bits when you don't understand the operating principles. Scrapheap Challenge OMG How does a wabbit work.......in a wok of course with ginger & onions & a touch of lime .....yum yum LOL Edited November 25, 2010 by Sha Bu Le
