i may stand corrected here but i think they have changed it now so that any one who has known you for 2 years or more can sign this is the case with essex police when renewing as i say take further advice i may be wrong on a new issue certificate

Your neighbour will be fine. They just prefer a professional person and a firefighter/MD is plenty good enough. :look:

My son, he's sixteen has just had his application returned by Staffordshire for giving a reference who was "the wrong type of MR". He asked a Company Director, whom has known him since birth to countersign and the FEO has stated that it needs to be somebody on the list i.e. Teacher, Nurse, Doctor etc.

Taken from Countryside Alliance.

The regulations state that the person countersigning an application form must be an MP, a magistrate, a minister of religion, a doctor, a lawyer, an established civil servant, a bank officer or a person of similar standing. Since it is accepted that this list may be restrictive and that many applicants for shotgun certificates may not be personally known to people falling into these professional categories, the police allow a degree of flexibility over the selection of countersignatories.

Anyone with professional qualifications or someone in a position of responsibility should be fine.

A good one if you live in a local community is to ask your local post office sub-master.

What a load of cobblers

How is a Banker/Lawyer/ Minister a reliable referee ? Just read the local press ! Jeez their more bent than a nine bob note.

I have SGC and FAC got mine signed by Managers in my own organisation, FAC is a little trickier as the referee has to send their forms off independent of your App, you tick the boxes jump through the hoops and get there

well they could send it straight back......and i am sure not being able to follow simple instructions will not have a positive reflection on the application, best ring them and if necessary get them to send a new form out!

it says at the top of the aplication form to fill everything in by using block capitals, wot would happen if you didnt use them?

I'm really not sure, but by way of form filling and information requested you are probably advised to stay close to the rule book!

Feel free to try and let us all know! :good:

The phrase that encompases just about anything they want at refusal is....not a suitable person!!:yes:

ATB!!
