Oxon88
Hi all. Just a quick question regarding my sgc application. I've read through the guidelines on who can and cant act as countersignatories, however it says that the list is not exhaustive and every application will be judged on its merit. So I just wondered if it would be ok to get the club chairman from my local target shooting club to do it. He has previously acted as a referee on my FAC application. Do you think he would be a suitable person? Many Thanks, Dave
David BASC
No reason why not, the referee must show that they know you well enogh to confirm that thetey know of no reasosn why you should not have a ticket - little old me has been the counter sig in the past ! Gordon R
If he was good enough for you FAC, he should be okay for your SGC.
Colster
If he was good enough for your FAC, he should be okay for your SGC. That's not necessarily true. For FAC they just need to be someone who has known you personally for at least two years and not precluded from holding a FAC themselves (should they apply) For SGC it's like your passport, has to be someone of "good social standing", i.e. a professional person - solicitor, doctor etc. They are a lot more lax about it now though and will usually except any professional person - mine was a Glazing Manager. Chairman of a Target shooting club should be fine.
al4x
just going through my renewal now and it actually is the same for SGC and FAC now, more emphasis on knowing you rather than being a certain profession.
stubby
for both my SGC and FAC, I simply got other shotgun and firearm certificate holders to sign, went through no problem,
Katash
Being of good character is a pre-requisite for owning a SGC / FAC .... In theory any licence holder can act as a referee regardless of profession or social standing.

Cumbrian
Just one oddity which might catch out somebody, as it did me: someone on the Isle of Man is not eligible to sign for you, even if he knew you when he was on the mainland. Not part of the UK, I suppose. Perhaps the Channels Islands would be the same.

Tug
Wrong again, Wymberley! I thought it excluded family members.Cheers I think he means that he and his son both get other certificate holders to do it, not that they do each other's. At least that's how I read it...
