I hate these birds (and love them on a plate).

Did you know that if you release them into some scub land on a woodlot margin, and let them grow up wild, they make excellant hunting game for the pointing dog hunters ;) They hold well to the dogs and fly hard making a nice shooting bird. Another bonus is they are not a game bird so you can shoot them when ever you like. Labs and spaniels like them as well and they flush nice to a hard driving dog. :D

I nearly shot one by mistake on a driven Pheasant day in Sussex once, it was getting dark when I saw this bird coming towards me through the trees...fortunately I realised it was a guinea fowl just in time..it crashlanded in the tree right alongside me..not that good at flying, that one..!!

 

I was later told that they were pets of the shoot owner.
