Last season I asked my friend neighbour and farmer if I could add to the wild bird rough shooting I do on his land by putting out some feeders. No problem he said all went well .... This year I put out some more and said I'd put out the feeders and was wondering if I could buy his wheat as it's an organic farm and we had discussed this. Today he rang up and said don't shoot pheasants anymore I think I can shoot geese pigeons and crows plus some clays up the hill. I think I must have caught him on a bad day or somehow not made myself clear as he could not remember discussing feeders last year. I apologied and said no problem and all that but big of a ****** as it was brilliant doorstep sport . Ah well he might soften if I behave myself !!!!

Cheers will

sounds to me you had better be saving up the pennys............................................................

To join that new expensive syndicate thats starting on your old permission

I would think somebody has been snooping and noticed the feeders/pheasants and approached the farmer with a bundle of cash. A pinch to a lb of **** its somebody you know!!!!

Everybody jumps to the worst conclusions.

Notice utectok never suggested that he thinks this is why things have changed.

I know of two Farmers that have stopped "vermin shooters" taking pheasants and ducks, because they considered they spent more time on the game shooting than the vermin control.

One said to me that by stopping the pheasant shooting, he would soon see who was really interested in the pigeon shooting.

I am not suggesting that this is the case in utetok's situation, but there are other alternatives to the farmer selling off the game shooting.

Both adjacent farms do not have pheasant shoots on them so I figure I'm feed ing 'wild' birds not stealing anyones? However I asked to put down some birds and was told no way to much hassle for the farmer. Anyway I know he has been asked by others but also has had to do 2 weeks straight milking as the dairy man is on hols and the relief was sick. I'm pretty sure he was tired! Still omn the plus side he emailed and said

"I just want to rewind a little and maybe get our heads around the shooting arrangements. I do tend to hum and haw and give the wrong impression sometimes. I’ll catch up with you soon and we can decide the best way to proceed with it all. I tend to worry about losing control of any given situation and finding it difficult to back pedal. Don’t remove the feeders or anything at the moment." Seems fair enough fingers crossed eh! I'll keep you posted

Cheers

Well he seems a fair guy, I know i could draw hundreds of birds onto here and i normally get a least a dozen or so birds hatched in my garden but i also know putting down feeders and releasing nothing would make me unpopular with neigbours who do release . I have shot places in the past were pheasants were off limits for no other reason than the Landowner viewed it as legalised theft to shoot them, just thought that was what you faced.

Well as the season nears I went and asked where I stood with the pheasants. Had a good chat about this and that and finally popped the question . He said shooting pheasants is fine but feeding them was a no no . That's fine by me! a result I'd say I guess he just doesn't want to upset anyone. Fair enough . Thanks for the comments cheers will
