varmintator
My friend told me this regarding York Guns He said he wanted to sell his Proctor 375. He called York guns and they offered him approx 4k for it. So he drove from the midlands to York guns. When he got there they offered him 3k for it. When he asked why they were now offering 1 k less They said that it was specialist and there was not much call for them. The rifle is mint btw Of course it is up to them what they offer but why waste his time Getting him to drive all the way there to try and sucker him in to Reducing the price very unfair I feel. He was very angry they had wasted his time and money. I told him he would be better off selling it on here. Just wanted to know if anyone else had this issue with them. Darren h
York Guns are about 10 miles away from and i've used them a few times and never had any problems at all with.
varmintator
Yes but just feel that they have misled him, knowing full well What it was he was bringing and then telling him that there is not call for them. Just smacks of another gun trader trying to take advantage.

Salopian
Some years ago I was looking for a Miroku, they had exactly what I wanted by description in their advert, I called and asked about it. The guy I spoke to said it was mint condition and they would do a better price for cash & no exchange. So off I toddle, over the Pennines, up through Beirut & Bangladesh. When I got there and saw the gun, I was so overjoyed that I didn't live within 100 miles of them and would never have to deal with them again. When he described it as mint he obviously meant Polo because of the holes and gouges in the stock. Still it was a nice day out in the car. DSPUK
Ahh Slopian Look on the bright side - you bought a much better one later - always a silver lining - just a shame you can't shoot em. -- well- straight that is. Scully
Use to deal with them quite a bit when I had pistols and they had a 'proper' gun shop in York itself.Cracking shop back then....no issues really apart from them being a bit 'snotty' in their attitude. RED BEARD
i've never had any dealings with them, but that does sound like a dirty trick to play.
varmintator
Yes a dirty trick, that's what I thought. I know that retail is tight but only the good honest dealers will Survive.
TJ91
they always seem ignorant and dont want to help when i go in, they make you feel like they dont want you in there which seems very strange. have heard many negative stories about them and few positive but i popped in the other day and got a very good deal on some non-toxic shot so i will maybe pop back again! apache
Been in a couple of times myself. Had some decent cartridge prices, seemed very friendly and helpful. Often busy and you might have to wait to be served, but once you have their attention seems like no hurry. I will go back

groach1234
I've never had any problems dealing with them. Always willing to do a deal and have had 2 guns and a scope from them in the last few years and looking at getting a new gun as we speak. Paddy Galore!
never had a problem with them, very helpful, not always the cheapest but always get good service, getting a quote over the phone is daft, are you sure your friend isn't embelishing the story? varmintator
If he is cloudy enough to think anyone is going to quote for a gun of that price accurately over the phone without having seen it, he deserves to have his time wasted. Was he also clear whether he was wanting just to sell it or trade it in? I wonder how many 4 grand procter rifles are made each year? I would say no more than 10, it's more the point that When my friend got there the guys reason Was that it was a 375 and was specialised. He could have said that before he set off. If he had said it was in bad condition that Would have been acceptable. So it's a dirty trick
the running man
There's a different side to york guns, that we don't see. They deal in all sorts behind the scenes to other dealers. I'm pretty sure they are section 5,but not entirely sure. On a service side I think ure mate must have just had the new bloke on the phone, did he explain he was drivin all that way b4 he set out? Why not did he email york guns some pix?
varmintator
Yes I asked my friend this also. It was the Same man on the phone that he met at The shop. Just trying to mug people off a clear case.

Just trying to mug people off a clear case. well that suprises me to be honest, thought york guns were the fbi agents of shooting retailers in the uk,ie. straight honorable guys..... and ive never b4 heard anything bad about them until now, witht many shooting forums and freedm of information sharing amougst the wider shooting community its in all retailers intrests to be on the level........... zipdog
never had any problems with york guns always nice and friendly, awful lot better than euro guns, the customer service there is appalling.

Now them I have heard complaints about, and from people I know to be "non drama queens" and level headed,I.e. I respect their opinion and will not touch them. Sportsman exeter is another shocking customer service void, and very highly priced rifle ammo too, would not ever waste my time/petrol driving there again.
