Axe
My new scope arrived yesterday and so this morning I popped up to Andersons to have it mounted on the rifle and bore sighted. Very pleased to say the least. The Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater 30mm 6-24x56 AO IR is just the ticket. The adjustable turrets push to lock down and are also resettable to zero once scoped in to the rifle. The centre illuminated mil dot recticle is also gives a nice fine cross and the objective view is crisp and clear. So just had to get the Quad zero'd in and the results were very pleasing indeed. hawkeye
As you lot are on about 22.s at the moment i was wondering... what sort of price would i be able to pick up a 22. (something like a ruger 10-22) with scope and silencer ?? second hand that is. Thanks GH My mate picked one up a right cracker for £130 about a month ago. :( :( PS no scope ------- just ruger 10/22 and silencer + 2 mags Edited February 4, 2006 by hawkeye
whippet.22
Trust me mate, stay away from the Rugers, I'm not just copying what other people say as I have several thousand rounds of experience with a Ruger 10-22 and i highly reccomend you don't get one. Look for a second-hand Brno Model-2e (the old version of the CZ 452, some people think the 2e is better built than the 452), you should be able tp pick one of these up for less than £150 quid, probably with some crappy old 4x40 scope and a Parker Hale mod on it, just take the old scope off and buy something alright to stick on it. You see this kind of set-up going cheap in loads of gunshops. Edited February 4, 2006 by whippet.

whippet.22
My mates gota 10-22... its the only 22. ive shot but i realy like it... what is wrong with them, not that im douting your opinion ? Is the Brno Model-2e a semi-auto ?? Roughly how much would you advise me to spend on a scope and silencer if i buy them seperately, remembering i have a tight budget. Also one more question, how often do you lot clean your rifles ?? Well to put it bluntly they have ****-poor accuracy, a trigger made to stop lawsuits and not aid good shooting (heavy) and the alarming knack of jamming just when you don't want it to. Semi's are great fun, but you have to understand that the 10/22 was made for the American mass market where they want something that they can use to plink with in their backyard(sure I'm pretty much directly quoting someone here, if so I appologise). If you have about £400 quid to spare (on top of the price of the rifle) then you can get it to shoot properly with aftermarket mods, alternatively you can get a 452/2e and get a trigger kit for £8.50 which will then shoot around the inch mark at 100 yards (the standard trigger is perfectly useable, but a decent trigger really helps). The 2e/452 are both bolt actions, the CZ 452 is the newer version of the Brno 2e, they were/are both made in the same factory, the company just changed it's name. A Parker Hale silencer is about £25 IIRC, you could spend loads more on some fancy silencer which reduces the muzzle blast by a few extra decibels, but to be honest it's as quiet as it needs to be, the sound on the bullet hitting the rabbit will be louder than the gun. For a scope, just look on the sales section of www.airgunbbs.com/forums you'll find something on there that'll do the job good for however much you want to spend, a good recommendation for a rimfire scope is a Nikko Sterling, the 3-9x40 or 4-12x50 will be perfect for a rimmy. However you may find that if you look through gunshops you will find a set-up pretty similar to this, well within you're budget. You might have to be prepared to buy a gun with a silencer and **** scope and just junk the scope and get a new one. Generally rimmies don't need cleaning very often (if at all), only if the accuracy starts to deteriorate. HTH mate. deadeye ive
Well to put it bluntly they have ****-poor accuracy, . If you have about £400 quid to spare (on top of the price of the rifle) : Whippet I've told you a million times not to exaggerate........£400 :( All Yank guns come with heavy triggers ...........Get the Right ammo and they cycle Efficeintly .........Powder build up in the Mag causes a few probs but if you remember to tap and blow the Mag out before loading the next 10 this is soon cured . As for accuracy .........Last time I looked all 10 /22s come with STRAIGHT and TRUE Barrels :( ..........A combination of Operator and Ammo determine accuracy . Trigger kit (Competition Hammer 2 3/4 lbs pull ) $39.95(£22).....Titanium extraction Claw £7.............There you go Ive Ps Apologies AXE...........I could'nt resist replying
Axe
Ive , not a problem buddy. dunganick
if you go to most clubs you will find they have a 10/22 somewhere you can try, once you have fired 50 shots and got 5 jams you wont be so impressed with it. some owners are very happy with 10/22's, and good for them, personally im quite happy with my CZ 452, and am happy in the knoledge it only cost me £8.50 to put right, unlike some guns i can think of. if you are willing to throw the money at it a 10/22 can be a very good gun. but why not save your money and buy cz, sako, anschutz, they work fine out of the box. (even if the cz has a rough trigger as standard) i never actually have owned a 10/22 just to clear things up, but i have had the misfortune of using them alot in my younger shooting years, and very nearly bought one for my first rimfire. Im glad i got the CZ Edited February 5, 2006 by dunganick
RossM
I shot a 77/22 the other day at our club (not a semi I know but) it was terrible to use. the bolt kept jamming and didn't always eject rounds very well. Definatly think i'll be getting a CZ!!

tenbears10
Axe how much did the quad set you back all in all with the scope and both barrels? If you don't mind me asking? I really like the look of the .17 and the ability to change the barrels and get 2 rifles in one sounds good to me. Have you had any issues zeroing after changing the barrels?
