Thank 'Quad' for that

Went out last night to catch some Fox bait. Suffice to say, I had a damn good evening. Running about on the battery powered Gator (nice and stealthy) supping muh coffee and listening to the chorus of Owls & Fox from the wood.

The guy who runs the golf course also keeps sheep and chicken and has reported a Fox trying to get at the Chickens. After walking back to the Gator with the second Rabbit I sat back for a sup on my coffee. After a couple of minutes I noticed a pair of eyes hovering about the same place I collected the Rabbit. Sure enough Charly had decided to investigate. How frustrating that I had gone with the .22LR

Anyway, finished up with this lot and after baiting them for Charly, will return next wekk with the .17HMR :(

OK guys, settle down ??? I am thinking of going again tonight. However, there are a few things that I have to consider. Firstly, I havent yet zero'd the .17HMR in so I would have to do that first or take the shotgun. Secondly, the time at and place at which the Fox shows is between 8:30-9pm and about 300 yards from the Public Driving Range which is also very well flood lit and always busy.

The only way I can really do this is to move him along to another part of the permission away from the range and in a location where the 17HMR will not be heard. The Shotgun is of course completely out of the question.

I can just imagine some poor golfer just about to start his swing, club strikes the ball just as my shotgun goes off. He'd be looking at his golf club for hours trying to figure how it made that noise. :(???

DS I went for a Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater 30mm 6-24x56 with Side wheel parallax, illuminated mil-dot recticle and locking adjustable turrets. Feew what a mouthfull.

It is a fantastic scope, very clear optics day and night and even comes with a 75mm sunshade. The parallax works very well and is easy to use due to the side adjustment which also comes with an optional large wheel. The centre illuminated recticle is very good indeed and prevents having too much glare at night, with full adjustment on brightness. And because its a Quad, I needed the adjustable turrets to re-zero. The only problem really is that the scope is so big, it has to be removed to change barrels. But I ahve this covered by having the forward mount flush with the breech. Scope was £157 and the Hawke Sport Mounts £25, I am very happy with it. :(

I also had the pull weight reduced on the trigger which has made a massive difference. But your right, I do need to get the .17HMR on it. :*)

Thanks for the support guys, I appreciate it.

Hunter, I always go for a head shot if its possible, as I like to keep the meat clean as all my Rabbits find a good home. I have a farmer that buys in small amounts and also donate to a local restaurant. Of course in return I get watered and fed :( Funny enough, the restaurant is owned by the same chap I was shooting for, on this occasion, so he's buying his own rabbit in a way. ???

Out of the six, two were body shots the first was in at 15yards after a stalk over one of the tee's and the second at 40yards refused to present himself, even after squeaking and tapping to get his attention. So these were used as bait. It was the second one that the Fox decided to interogate.
