Peppergun
Happy New Year to one and all. I was looking for some advise. I have Beaters Day coming up soon on my pheasant syndicate and can't decide what to use. The choice is A SbS with 26'' barrels, 12g, fixed cylinder chokes with 28g 6's. Usually does ok with pigeon and rabbit. Its only light game gun and kicks too much for me with anything bigger, also I don't want to put anything bigger down it. Manufactured in 1931 but reproofed last year. My main concern here is that the 28's wont be man enough for a clean kill with pheasant. The second choice is an O/U Browning Sporter, 12g, MC with 32g 6's but what puts me off is the weight of carting it about. If I go down this route thinking of using cylinder in the bottom and IC in the top. The birds usually take fairly close to the pegs, hence the choke choice. Any advise gratefully received. Blunderbuss
Either would be fine, whichever you shoot best with Edit I would use slightly tighter chokes out of choice - IC and Modified (quarter and half). So, what's wrong with that then?? ...and if for some reason you are not happy to use the SBS then just use the O/U. I don't see a problem either way! ATB! Sprinter
I use sbs and 28g 6s in paper cases for all my game shooting.
Dunkield
I use my only shotgun for game as I only shoot it a few times a year, it's an old 687 sporter which weighs about 7 3/4lb, as we walk and stand by mid afternoon the weight starts to get a bit tiresome to say the least. But the answer to the question is to use whatever you feel most comfortable with.
Scully
Whatever you're happiest with is the answer..both are up to the job.If weight is a problem, leave your gun in its slip 'til you get to your peg.If it's walk one, stand one, then the same applies. al4x
Whatever you shoot best with is the simple answer, you may be tired by the end of the day but you'll enjoy it more if you hit more
paddywack12
Take what ever one you use the most, as this will be normally the one you shoot best with.

paul041075
Shot pheasant and woodcock with a 20 bore using 25g no 6 and 28g no 5 /6 no probs. Dont worry too much just remember to give enough lead. And have a good well deserved day, beaters are always needed and are often under valued by some but not all. If the SBS kills clean with 28gm 6`s on rabbit and pigeon then it will kill pheasant at the same ranges. Also, the O/U shouldn`t be a prob if you don`t have to walk far(if it`s a shoot one walk one then leave it at home). Finally, what do you shoot better with ?
