I would guess that the difficulty lies in the insurance cover / contract and the admin that would need to go behind it. Most insurance contracts are 12 months and if you talk to any motor insurer what massively f's it up for them is for example when someone takes out a 12 month policy, agrees to pay by direct debit, they issue him with a certificate of insurance and then he stops paying the direct debit.

The grief there is in making sure that the returned direct debit is not their error (you can imagine the grief of someone having an accident in the middle of a admin error like that and where the premiums haven't been paid / taken), then there's writing loads of letters and notifications and then of course follows the grief of trying to get the insurance certificate back from chummy in case he's blagging it with the plod that he is insured (although the computerisation of the motor insurers databases has helped stop this).

Here with regards to the BASC sub, well since last week it's now well under the cost of half a tank of diesel or about a week's supply of cigarettes.

It has been mentioned in jan/ feb of shooting and conservation page 10 titled '' no increase in basc sub''

I think there was also mention of monthly payments - but can't recall when and I dump the mag after flicking past all the game topics and adverts. (Now't against game - I just don't do it)

Munger is quite correct that there are potential insurance issues with phased payment, but similarly there is a risk of someone taking out BASC membership, getting their card and then asking for a refund.

However as mentioned in the Jan / Feb issue we will be giving members the opportunity to pay by instalments form March 1st.

Members will be able to choose paying every quarter or by 10 equal instalments.

I have a few meetings over the next couple of weeks to cross t’s and dot i’s as it were to make sure all is in place for the March 1st deadline.

Such a person would be a fool only unto themselves. Yes they would have a card (for whatever reason) but when the brown stuff hit the rotating air conditioner they'd find themselves all alone and liable for whatever.

Not clever.

Totally off topic I'm sorry but would there be any way to send the magazine that BASC produces in an unmarked cover that's slightly less see through? My postie seemed a little too interested in the most recent one I received. Question directed at David btw :good:

is it not easier to enter someone into a contract whereby they have to settle the total annual amount, which then stops people from applying, getting the card and cancelling.

It'd be like trying to get out of a phone contract early. You must settle the total amount before you leave.

Take your point Al4X that was a problem with the mailing house- we are changing to a new supplier.

It will also be easy for members to go onto the BASC web site and change their DD payment detials at any time they want to, after March 1st.

David

a little off topic but which mailing house do you use might be able to offer you a better service & price :good:
