steve_b_wales
I was told this three years ago by a BASC staff member at a game fair. My membership expires at the end of March, and is normally automatically renewed. This year however,I am stopping the automatic renewal, until I find out more about the quarterly option. Steve. mpk
It has been mentioned in jan/ feb of shooting and conservation page 10 titled '' no increase in basc sub''
Mungler
I would guess that the difficulty lies in the insurance cover / contract and the admin that would need to go behind it. Most insurance contracts are 12 months and if you talk to any motor insurer what massively f's it up for them is for example when someone takes out a 12 month policy, agrees to pay by direct debit, they issue him with a certificate of insurance and then he stops paying the direct debit. The grief there is in making sure that the returned direct debit is not their error (you can imagine the grief of someone having an accident in the middle of a admin error like that and where the premiums haven't been paid / taken), then there's writing loads of letters and notifications and then of course follows the grief of trying to get the insurance certificate back from chummy in case he's blagging it with the plod that he is insured (although the computerisation of the motor insurers databases has helped stop this). Here with regards to the BASC sub, well since last week it's now well under the cost of half a tank of diesel or about a week's supply of cigarettes. Dave-G
It has been mentioned in jan/ feb of shooting and conservation page 10 titled '' no increase in basc sub'' I think there was also mention of monthly payments - but can't recall when and I dump the mag after flicking past all the game topics and adverts. (Now't against game - I just don't do it)
David BASC
Munger is quite correct that there are potential insurance issues with phased payment, but similarly there is a risk of someone taking out BASC membership, getting their card and then asking for a refund. However as mentioned in the Jan / Feb issue we will be giving members the opportunity to pay by instalments form March 1st. Members will be able to choose paying every quarter or by 10 equal instalments. I have a few meetings over the next couple of weeks to cross t’s and dot i’s as it were to make sure all is in place for the March 1st deadline. David BASC
Yes, you will need to let us know on your renewal if you want yearly, quaterly or the 10 month option - David
al4x
is that a simple call David or do you need to cancel the existing DD
Beardo
this thread is about monthly instalments, not (yet another ) slanging match about what insurance to get. keep it on track please folks

David BASC
I would hope its as simple as filling in the renewal form and putting a tick in the relvent box, but the final meeting to put the details together is on the 17th Jan. I will do all I can to make it as simple and easy as possible David
al4x
sounds good as long as the renewal notice doesn't turn up after the renewal like my last one

Such a person would be a fool only unto themselves. Yes they would have a card (for whatever reason) but when the brown stuff hit the rotating air conditioner they'd find themselves all alone and liable for whatever. Not clever. David BASC
Take your point Al4X that was a problem with the mailing house- we are changing to a new supplier. It will also be easy for members to go onto the BASC web site and change their DD payment detials at any time they want to, after March 1st. Cannon
Totally off topic I'm sorry but would there be any way to send the magazine that BASC produces in an unmarked cover that's slightly less see through? My postie seemed a little too interested in the most recent one I received. Question directed at David btw Edited January 10, 2011 by Dancake
Billy.
is it not easier to enter someone into a contract whereby they have to settle the total annual amount, which then stops people from applying, getting the card and cancelling. It'd be like trying to get out of a phone contract early. You must settle the total amount before you leave.

Dave-G
Could we opt out of receiving a Magazine? I don't do game or look at the adverts so it has very little of interest to me so it would be less for me to dispose of and it would save BASC a few pennies.
