nathanhutchison
Right, I know this has probably been asked before but I dont know how to use the search tool lol. I'm going to pick up my .223 tomorrow and i called the shop to see what ammo they had in as i want to get out shooting before i start to figure out all this home loading stuff. so over the phone the shop owner told me they have remington, sako and privvi in stock but thats all he told me. going on this what would you go for? as i said its just temporary until i figure out where to buy dies as i already have access to reloading gear apparently. KPV4
I've got a Tikka T3 223 with 1/8th twist and I've been using Remmington 50 and 55 grain which have been fine, I haven't tried any privvi at the moment because none of my local dealers supply them. Some of the guys on the site use them regularly and say they are great and very cheap. Some prices quoted have been about £11 per 20 and Remmingtons are anywhere between £22-£25 per 20. If the privvis are cheap enough why not given them a go, I'm sure you will get some more usefull info on this thread form the rest of the guys who use many different typs of 223 ammo. nathanhutchison
i think hes £20 for the sako and remington and £10.99 for the privi but im not sure. the gun im getting is a cz 527 american btw
Dekers
My T3 Lite Stainless is 1-8 twist and has 19" barrel and P8 Compact Mod, I get a few very good home brews made for me, but other than that it now gets fed almost exclusively PRVI 55g SP which works very well, and costs me just over £40 x 100. Simple fact is you will need to try a few makes/weights/types to find what suits you and the gun best! Vince Green
Buy a box of each, but two boxes of Privi, you will need a box of something cheap for shooting your barrel in and setting the sights up. Frankly, if you get on with the Privi think seriously as to whether you want to get involved in reloading. I gave up and I know others have too There is no cost saving to be made. Down on the 300 yds at Bisley last august with a mate who had just bought an AR15 in .223 with one of those massive tactical sights on it. He was just banging in V-bull after V-bull till it got tedious for the rest of us. That was with Privi ammunition, about £8 a box

I would agree with that Without wishing to steal the thread...does anyone in Scotland stock privi ammo? ATB!

Dunkield
i think hes £20 for the sako and remington and £10.99 for the privi but im not sure. the gun im getting is a cz 527 american btw Most CZ527's get on well with American Eagles as well, the 55grn FMJ were no good in mine, but the 50grn Hollow Points are fine - they were £8 last time I bought them http://www.federalpremium.com/products/details/rifle.aspx?id=
bullet boy
If you want alternative ammo to PRVI,and quality ammo at that, then take a look at Remington Accutips or Norma V-Max 50 gr- which I use in 22-250.I did start off with PRVI but didn't like them.I much prefer quality ammunition, some would disagree but it's my own preferance. al4x
Normas are excellent and realistically buying decent ammo is unlikely to break the bank even at £1.50 a shot if you use on foxes and deer its not an issue. however the privi are well worth a try if they shoot well in your gun they are far cheaper than reloading
triscrx
I used to use Norma V-Max 50 gr in my CZ 527 .223 and they worked very well but were £20 approx for 20. How many rounds do you think you will be getting through? I didn't look at re-loading as I wasn't firing many rounds to justify it
nathanhutchison
does anyone have an opinion on hornaday varmint express? 55grn ballistic tip
Vince Green
It will be good I have no doubt, all of them are good to be honest. The beef is about ammo prices, and it comes from large markups being added to the cost by importers and middle men rather than issues about quality. The other beef is dealers who refuse to stock what YOU want to buy and only want to sell you what THEY want you to buy.

Vince Green
Why the suprise, when I gave up reloading my reloads were costing about the same as I could buy privi for (more in some instances) and shot no better. Plus you have to allow for all the hours spent in the garage risking divorce.
V8 90
I also use Norma V-Max 50 gr in my T3 .223 Varmint & just under a £ a shot - why bother reloading ?? It's more accurate than I'll ever be
Dunkield
Most reloaders reload for consistency and accuracy not to save money.
