Kes
Hiya, from similar questions about bullet weights and powders I would say most reloaders use Varget with your weight of bullet. I use Vithouri 133 for 40 grain V-max and V130 for 50 Grain. You should get plenty of advice but, in the final analysis, its bullet weight, sensitivity you have to bullet drop, rifle twist and what your rifle likes. Mines a remington 700 VS and when I can hit them, foxes find the 40 Grain V-max, travelling at 3,600FPS upsettng. Good luck in your search for the perfect powder. jamie g
vit 133 is in alot of peoples books as one of the best powders for 223. H4895 looks good also and will give you good accuracy and speed out the 223 with 55 grain bullet
Mr_Logic
Tbh most of the medium-fast powders work pretty well in 223. Benchmark is excellent according to Nosler's manual, though I spent more time with it in .204 so can't really comment. I've had short-barreled .223s mainly so use N130 to great effect. Varget's good, though only for heavier stuff - it's basically a caseful irrespective of bullet. My Savage F/TR pushes a 75gr A-max at 3075 with it so can't argue. RL10X is also worth a look. mjj160
I use 24 gn H335 powder with CCI benchrest primers, 55gr V max bullets, winchester cases. this gives me 2860fps from my Tikka t3 super varmit with 20" barrel. I find this to be very accurate, I use this for long range rabbits, foxes, and often take to range for target work. Regards Mike

Hornet 6
I use 40 grain Nosler's with Vit N-120 with brilliant results. I also tried Reloader 7 which was ok, and Benchmark which was not so good. Neil.
cooter
I have used all of the following; Benchmark H322 N130 N133 N140 H4895 Varget The first two gave the most consistent results across all weights of bullets, and H322 was specifically designed for the .223, and it showed. Cost wise the Vit powders are the best value. I found that N130 for 36-55grn heads was really good, and N133 for 55-69grn heads. N140 and H4895 were used to try and push the 75grn heads through a 1.9 twist, but I never got it to work, and both powders work really well in my .308 so nothing lost. Varget is a good all rounder, and is used in my .308 and .223. Once you decide on your best loads try to use just one powder, but use the heaviest bullet you can, as it will be the most consistent in any sort of wind and out to the distances that the .223 is capable of. inthedark
I use 26.2 gr of Vit 140 under 55gr Vmax bullets to get 3050fps. After reading several similar posts on this subject I've just test fired some with 25.2gr of Vit 133, same bulets, and the POI lifted just under 2" at 100 yds! Chrono went down though. DaveK
Another vote for N133. I throw a 55gn vmax over 22.3gn of the powder at the little ******* and they go down at 300 yards quite happily
