RC45
I would have thought it courtesy to inform them. Some authorities might take a dim view of it.

Miroku_Dave
Ive moved in and out of North Yorks a couple of times, the FAO didn't want to come and inspect this time! I think they are fed up of me! You dont need to tell them if your moving it but do make sure its done properly just in case!
paul041075
Just installed another cabinet, rang my local firearms officer and advised me to put it in writing just so there would be no bother in the future. Strictly speaking they should check any additions/replacements etc but they are so busy at present they cant get around everyone.
Dekers
It's another grey area, mine was not inspected even when I moved, they just asked me on the phone if I had it installed. I have 3 in total now, the police don't care I have 3 cabinets, and have no knowledge about the size/type or location of any, despite a few home visits! Makes you wonder doesn't it! Cosd
Let your FAO know, at the very least you get to talk to him or her and build your relationship. You never know when you'll have a more pressing request where a good relationship can work in your favour. I know it worked for me as we are on first name basis now and a request now is usually accepted over the telephone cutting out the usual letters and formalities. Bradders
Ring them and ask, when I moved my cabinet from one part of the house to another (the 7 gun cab would not fit where the 5 gun was) I called them and told them that I have added a new cabinet and they came to inspect it. Also they updated their records to say I had storage for more guns. Also, I find that contacting them when you have a valid need helps keep the "relationship" going, this is useful when you want variations etc as the FEO knows who you are. At the moment I have a "closed" certificate and I keep getting new bits permissions at the moment. Keeping in contact may help "open" it up when they get sick of me keep sending copies of permission slips and land visits. It's just a matter of using the process to your advantage..... silverhawk
I was told there was no need to by my firearms dept. But just do what i did write a letter and post it off to them saying your moving cabinet on whatever date and to let you know if they need to inspect the cabinet. Also let them know where your moving it to in the house and if its a larger one or same cabinet best to cover your back. arjimlad
I told Avon & Somerset, they sent the new FEO for my area round, and he was very happy with where I had put the cabinet. It was a good opportunity to meet him.
