TJ91
go down your local plumbers and get an offcut of copper pipe tap em over head with it, that will make them as dead as any expensive gadget you can get your hands on Edited February 23, 2011 by TJ91
steve_b_wales
Just get yourself a 'Priest'. Either homemade or purchased. Does the job when used correctly, and is cheaper than the item you are asking about. Steve.

stubby
those dispatch pliers can get messy, it basically mashes the skull, far easier, cleaner to either use a priest, or practise your hands on technique, the pliers are more suited towards pest control, when your clearing large roof areas etc of birds, but even then, its still easier/quicker using a priest

Billy.
Three quick turns of the head and they're dead.
Pigeon Popper
Three quick turns of the head and they're dead. Yup, that'd be my suggestion. If you're afraid to get your hands bloody (I think it comes with the territory,) I would recommend a fishing priest.
UKPoacher
Three quick turns of the head and they're dead. In theory maybe. In pracise I find that the head comes off very easily if its a young bird or it can defy all efforts if it is a leathery old timer.

A lot of people who I've seen pulling the heads off tend to twist and pull. 99% of the time it's 2 and on the 3rd twist you'll hear the neck go. If you keep turning it will of course come off. pegasus bridge
a priest gets my vote - i have used the head twisting /pulling method - but the head would come off often (i know it was my technique) - i have used the thumb in the back - but i personally find a swift knock on the back of the head with a priest is the cleanest, quickest way. i made my own out of some seasoned hazel, drilled a large hole in one end (leaving only a few mm all round) - filled this with 28g of leadshot and araldite, topped the end off with swadust and gave it a quick sand and some wax - job done !
