Fisherman Mike
I have a Oris Formula one day date automatic which has stopped 3 weeks after the 2 year warranty expired. I have sent it to a authorised Oris dealer for repair estimate and its come back at £475 including vat which is only £25 less than i paid for it. ! I might as well get a new one However does anyone know of a reputable watchmaker who might be more competitive, and have experience of these marques Thanks FM
DSPUK
FM They list Oris down left hand side - don't know if they repair or just clean - they serviced my Brietling and it's been fine for last two years -- give them a ring - they were reccommended to me for Brietlings. http://www.chealwatch.com/watch_names.htm. dave
PaulABF
I sent both of my diver's watches here for a service. Cheap, professional and very quick. Watch Doctors

I have an Omega and i would be very upset if the same happened to me. A friend of mine has also used watch doctors for a tag and all went well, but i have never used them. I had mine serviced at Watches of Switzerland. Was about £500 which I thought was a right rip off.
Dougy
Bloody ell £500 to service a watch :o thats a 1/2 decent scope
DSPUK
AVB It was a clean and oil service - my watch is 45 yrs old and as a spotty 21 yr old I didn't know what I had and had it on my wrist every day for 10 yrs - SWMBO trying to impress me when we were courting bought me a Seiko auto watch so Brietling went in draw for 30 yrs - I think it was around 50-70pounds but they would not do anything other than clean it - A full Breitling service is around £500 but they renew "anything" that is worn or scratched - I just wished they had cleaned face - they did wipe it but did not do a proper job. This is the before face - it came back better than that but not as new which Breitling would have done. I have to say I am very pleased with watch now - it keeps perfect time and looks understated. I had my watch from Watch's of Switzerland in 1965. dave
fenix
This chap http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OMEGA-WATCH-CLEAN-SERVICE-FREE-QUALITY-LEATHER-STRAP-/320664863409?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_WatchAccessories_SpareParts_SM&hash=item4aa91d82b1 has had some very good comments on one of the watch forums I frequent. Best bet would be to message hime with an enquiry. I have kept an eye on him on ebay and 600+ positive feedback over many months, + good comments on watch forums I would give him a go. Once my new job sorts itself out I have a couple of watches to send him.
KPV4
If its only 3 weeks out of warranty I would be trying the manufacturer as the watch of that value should not break down afte 2 years and there maybe recourse under the sale of goods act and ther item being fit for purpose. If the repair cost is within £25 of the cost of a new watch then I would say that something drastic must have happened to its workings  Always worth a try, if they don't cover the repair they may do some of the work as a guesture of good will
bruno22rf
Oh deare-another casualty of the manufactures warranty cloak. You have statutary rights so ignore the warranty.Your rights clearly state that goods must be fit for purpose and last a reasonable time (depending on various criteria).A watch costing this sort of money and of this quality should last considerably more than just over 2 years.Forget about spending money on it-get in touch with consumer direct and CAB and follow their advice-people have worked long and hard to protect you with consumer laws-you just need the determination to enforce them.Do NOT take it to a watch repairer until Oris have had a chance to look at it-unless you have damaged/misstreated it in some way they are obliged to fix it. They quoted me 150 standard charge. Essential spares...16.00 new crown. 30.00 Rust surcharge ( dont know what the **** that is ) 25.00 sundries. reccommended spares.. New Rotor 45.00 new something or other spring 75.00 new hands and face 80 cant see naything wrong with them, certainly not after 2 years old. Plus vat....I think they are taking the proverbial... Its never been misused and only worn very occassionally ( every other week or so) but kept wound in a winder. Never been dropped or exposed to water... Im very dissapointed as Oris have always had such a great reputation for the supreme quality of the movement more so than most of the top suisse marques.. Thanks for the replies I will give some of the suggestions a try. In the meantime I shall take it back to the jewellers i purchased from and see what they say. Cheers all
bruno22rf
Jewellers most likely response-"sorry sir,but its out of warranty".In this instance feel free to laugh in his face and enlighten him to the fact that you are NOT returning the watcg under the terms of the warranty but under your statutory rights which, incase he isnt aware, are far more comprehensive than any warranty. For him to state that the warranty prevents him from offering you furtrher help is to commit an offence as it is denying you your rights-feel free to report him to trading standards. The jeweller entered into a cotract with you when he sold you the watch-no court in this land will agree that a watch of such value should only last a couple of years (unless the strap itself is of high value) before requiring the amount of work quoted-the jeweller has broken the contract and is responsible for fixing the thing-tell him you are more than happy to face him in court. You need to contact consumer direct and CAB for the best result. Rubbish Monkey
Took my ORIS here Oris Service Centre UK, Andrew Charles (Watch and Clockmakers) Ltd. 2, Taylor Court, Stevenage Road, Little Wymondley, P.O. Box 81 GB SG4 7AF Hitchin tel.: +44-1438-728430 as they are the only official ORIS repaier in the UK. Wasn't working at all and from memory I think the bill was about £200. It may well be where you've been already. Can't say their prices are great but the service was excellent from people who obviously knew what they were doing. I complained that it was meant to be waterproof to 100M only to be told that they won't guarantee it being waterproof unless it is serviced annually and the seals replaced. So I had it serviced once to clear the water out but haven't since and simply haven't dived in it. No hardship.

They just put a new battery in my mate's Breitling and polished the case and bracelet for £85. 5 years ago he had it 'serviced' elsewhere and they charged him £250! Not sure if they are an Oris dealer but very knowledgeable and friendly independent jeweller who get my vote. BTW they stock an impressive range of watches including Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Panerai, IWC, etc etc. cheers,
four-wheel-drive
About four years ago I got a lovely silver Pocket watch made in 1910 only paid £40 for it on the bay and it worked with no problems keeping perfect time as long as I remembered to wind it up every day then one day. Then after about eighteen months the main spring snapped so I took it to a local quality jewellers and they sent it off to the chap that did there repairs he quoted me £250 to make a new main spring. I ended up buying a cheep wrist watch for £10 it dose the job but I do miss my old silver one I would love to get it repaired but cannot justify spending that much on it.
